@mrusa4440 Here's what SHOULD have happened, it's very simple; the F-18 should be KEPT and maintained and upgraded, special versions made to replace all the other legacy fighters like the viking, prowler, intruder, etc. These are essentially roles which can be filled easily without the need for much specialization, so the jack of all trades aspect of the F-18 works. What DOESN'T work is taking away the F-14; the F-18 doesn't come close.

@Talshet On the cat? They have several different tails on them, they were the ones with the skull and bones and other things on their tales that make them look better! Other forces don't seem to do that? I like camo jets too but the Cats with the skull and bones are the best to me (Ever). Air Force just used some grey and not much else, the CATS would have Jolly Rogers or Sun downers nicknames and painted nicely not just grey! Never got why other forces did not do that here.

Nice video, but some of the shots were wrong. The first Gulf of Sidra incident happened in 1983, and the squadrons involved were VF-41 (Black Aces), VF - 84 (Jolly Rogers) from the USS Nimitz. In the video you can plainly see the skull and crossbones logo of the Jolly Rogers. I was on board the Nimitz during this time. The 2nd incident happened in 1989 with the Fighter Squadrons VF-14 (Top Hatters) and VF-32 (The Fighting Swordsmen) from the USS John F. Kennedy.

Thats because the US sells its older military technology to other nations for profit (something i'm highly against). Also most of "our planes" that other nations have are hand me down types with various parts changed out and have lots of "custom" riggs to keep them flying. However a well trained American pilot with a 100% American made version of any US fighter jet is hard pressed to be beat.

Iraqi's say they have shoot down 11 F-14. US say that 4-5 Irani F-14 was lost during air combat. Iran's say they lost many planes in air combat becouse engine stall. Not becouse they were shoot down. @Ttran778 they did it because of cost and effect. For every 1 hour of flight time required something on the order of 12 hours of labor. They were (still are) a very affective fighting machine and air supremacy fighter. But the low cost and very capable F-18s replaced them. they are how you say more bang for your buck. Every part of the f-14s are still under lock and guard as the Iranians still have f-14s but were sabotaged during th 80s. Long story short they are just retired but not gone
