Very helpful vid - thanks! @wisesakura... You definitely need to chill out, there is no aggression in this guys voice but plenty to be found in your tetchy comment
I have many 1 quart mason jars ( I can a good deal), and I buy a roll of window screen material from Home Depot ( cheap), and I use the screens I cut in small pieces and place on top of the glass jars and secure with the metal band from the glass jar. I sprout any grain. seed, like this. Then, I have a dish rack from dollar store ( i got a bamboo one), and drain the jars at the 45 degree angle, I rinse and air two times daily, keep it at my sink..
I think you would get a more effective rinse if you left the sprouts in the bag, put the bag in a container, than filled up the container and emptied it a few times. I do most of my sprouting in glass jars. Just use a sieve to strain them. You can leave the water running into the jar for a couple of minutes in the sink for a very effective rinse.
1 hour soak for buckweat: good to know. Most of us were told that you have to soak overnight. Thanks for the insight. Good video.

When you soak flaxseed/linseed do you need to wash the 'slime' off before eating? I heard that the slime was similar to the bulk that psyllium husk gives you. I don't know too much about eating better foods but am trying and learning, thankyou
I've been soaking the buckwheat over night and then i left it in a jar over the day, but yet none of them had developed sprouts. I'd like to know how long it takes before the buckwheat sprouts start to appear.

Wow....unorganized stoners. How about listing the materials needed to do your project, and the amount of time required at the beginning instead of all the uhhhs and uummms. Oh and maybe try not doing mushrooms before you post videos on youtube.

informative, thanks! A bit waffley and chatty for me. Would rather you just got to the point, dispensed with the interview format, and provided a summary of the process at the beginning.
hey kevin gianni, please shut up next video, we don't need some facts we need to know how to sprout buckwheat and oats thats what we searched for, not for some guy talking mumbo jumbo whole the time, if I want the facts ill just type in google ok
Ok help me out here. I am confused. These are described as nutritionally dense foods. Lettuce is not considered nutritionally dense. Yet when comparing 30g of lettuce to alfalfa or mung sprouts the lettuce 5-7x the Vit A, 2x C, 9x K, thiamin, riboflavin etc were all pretty close. 30g of mung sprouts only had 1gr of protein. The nutritionally dense in what exactly? A carrot, by weight is even more dense nutritionally then lettuce. Someone help, cause I am confused.
I've got no agenda here, I am not pro one diet or another. That said if the diet these folks are suggesting is so healthy and natural why do they need all the pills? I don't think I could consider a dietary system that requires fortification or supplements. I want to get away from processed garbage not give my money to different manufacturers.
@adamc404 yes.. you need to buy RAW sunflower seeds. In fact you need to make sure anything you want to sprout is raw, otherwise it is dead and will not grow.
@Onie3 well, the ones i bought were labeled raw in a health food store, but that doesn't mean that they weren't heated above 115 F, it means that they were not roasted or anything. but do i need to buy sprouting sunflower seeds? do they sell them anywhere?
OK ... I know you did not mention trying to sprout FLAX seeds in this video, but I tried it anyway. After the soak, I wound up with soooo much of the SLIME stuff. It was IMPOSSIBLE to rinse off the slime. IMPOSSIBLE. Are Flax seeds not supposed to be sprouted? It was my first time trying and it was a disaster. Anybody know what to do with Flax?
holyblizzz - Those tiny sprouts should be safe to eat. It's primarily buckwheat greens that contain the toxic substance and should therefore be avoided. Buckwheat greens are more like a leafy veg for juicing, etc. and have little to do with the tiny sprouts you see in this video.
Don't be discouraged to put quick-sprouted buckwheat into your granola! :)
I strongly advice NOT TO sprout BUCKWHEAT, when it is known to cause severe sensitivy to light in quite a few people. google sprouted buckwheat and you will find out. It is fine to eat buckwheat as a dry food.
must be something within with the hearts of good people
i believe in the power of realisation also, bless your food by being humble to the grace of your very creation
self empowerment is real. i have moved from being depressed to feeling overwhelming love on occasion and its comes more frequently the more i focus, we generally all are or have been in a trap of bad practice. brake the mold show others in the way which you have self realised upon.
Thanks for the video :) I do have a few questions though.... if it's left out in the open, what are the chances of the sprouts getting bacteria? What would happen if you put the soaked buckwheat etc. in the fridge.. would they still sprout?
sometimes to get a real salty flavor, i jizz all over the seeds, mix them up so there is a even coat of jizz over the seeds, then let them sit for a day. mmmm tasty :)
where can you get big size sprouting trays like the one(s) in the video ? I found a german brand with 3 'sophisticated' trays at my health food store but it's 30$+... The trays they use in the clip looks very basic and simple... Any ideas for the Canadian folks ?
Wow thanks, very informative. I already knew how to sprout from growing wheatgrass, but I only recently took an interest in eating sprouts. I'm glad you guys said not to put them in the fridge with any water on it. Cause I thought you had to rinse them off again before putting them in.
you said you want your sprouts to be "very very clean"so why do you use tap water which has flouride and bacteria and what not? you should use drinking water only
If you pay attention you will see that the water is coming out of a very thin faucet. The water is filtered. They have an under the sink water filter. The larger faucet that is next to the filtered water is just tap water for doing dishes and even there they have a clip on filter.

Ruminants have a fore-stomach with four chambers. These are the rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. In the first two chambers, the rumen and the reticulum, the food is mixed with saliva and separates into layers of solid and liquid material. Solids clump together to form the cud (or bolus).
The cud is then regurgitated, chewed slowly to completely mix it with saliva and to break down the particle size. Fiber, especially cellulose and hemi-cellulose, is primarily broken down into the three volatile fatty acids, acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid in these chambers by microbes (bacteria, protozoa, and fungi). Protein and non-structural carbohydrate (pectin, sugars, starches) are also fermented.
Nature intended to make sprouts inedible and indigestible to grazing animals, including humans. To do this, sprouts contain toxic and evil tasting components to deter. This should be enough warning to anyone.
and nature definitely didn't want us to eat the unsprouted seeds, but we do, in the form of processed flours. Or cooked beans. You can and often should cook some sprouts. Even some raw foodists recommend this. Even just soaking the seeds long enough before eating will remove enzyme inhibitors. The sprouting process also activates nutrients, eliminates gluten, etc. Sprouted grains can eliminate the problem of allergies for many. Just be sanitary. Often the problem is mold.
yeah cool, i know you are making granola, but i did the semi sprout thing with sunflowers and added cayenne pepper salt and italian spice, the ground kind, while they were sprouted and drained and dehydrated them very addicting and cheap too. i tried wasabe, want to try chili, taco, tamari. any other ideas for a diabetic? i will try the same with buckwheat. mahalo
A lot of water being wasted. You could at least have a pan or bucket underneath to catch the water to reuse in the garden. Agitating in a bowl of water also greatly reduces water use. Sprouts ain't so green sometimes.
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this video and for being so thorough! I am trying to switch to a raw vegan diet and I keep reading about people sprouting but had no clue what it was or how to do it. Now I do! Keep up the good work! :)
I successfully sprouted using a pizza pan with holes for my sunflower seeds and I used my dehydrator trays with parchment paper for the buckwheat. I just put them on a shelf singularly and rinsed every twice (8 hrs) and they sprouted just perfect. so i'm living proof that you don't have to buy expensive "sprouting" trays. $25??? i don't think so. I also don't have an expensive dehydrator and it works just fine. so if you don't have a lot of money, theres a few tips.
I tried sprouting buckwheat, but I guess I didn't rinse enough because it got moldy. I will try again. Whole grains and oat groats especially are high in silica!
OH.. On your last video I asked where you got the square food dehydrator but I found them online. There a little expensive. But, I must have one. hahaha. Looking forward to next weeks video.
