The only way UHC could work in the US is if it was funded through taxes on junk food and cigarettes, but it will never happen because responsible health is antithetical to the industry's bottom line.

Anybody who doesn't see the inherent corruption of a policy which forces citizens to buy a monopolized good, then severely rectricts their buying constraints to disallow purchasing according to personal risk, needs to leave the country ASAP. check out the german healthcare system ... it's subsidiced thru 50% by the employee and 50% employer ... and it works just fine ... it's not 1000% perfect, but what is 1000% perfect, nothing ... and the Health insurance companies are stricly controlled by the gouvernmenrt and still make their profit ... and you can choose which health insurance you like to have private or universal/social insurance, you even can choose which healthcare insurance and if you are not satisfied -

Later, Ted thwarted Pres Carter's attempt to pass health care b/c he didn't, fully, agree with his plan & had his OWN plan (but he only got 3 votes).What a waste! Later, Kennedy regretted not signing on with Nixon's plan. Old age helped him understand how FAR along our country could've been had practicality superceded perfection! So very SAD!

A friend of my wife lived in Britain and WORKED in the medical field. When it came time to have a surgery(woman's issue)after waiting 6 months on a list she booked a flight to South Africa and had the surgery done their! Again, WTF??!! You expect us to go to that type of health care?? BS!!!!
Quality, Affordable healthcare isn't what you are going to get from the Government. What you will get is increased costs, decreased benefits, increased taxes and, by the time they are done, no where else to turn once they have succeeded in putting the private insurance companies out of business, which is precisely their objective! If you don't think so, just wait. It's coming!
