As a bee keeper and advocate for protecting our environment this was a wonderful view into the littlest and most important of critters on our planet. We have southern-hive bees (alabama) and to say that our bees are africanized hybrids and are nasty is incorrect and simply not true. If you were a bee keeper you'd know this.
Colony collapse is all BS. It is a cyclical event and Mr. Louie Schwartzberg, contact Extension Apiarist Eric Mussen, He would be happy to supply you with more than enough information on bees. This is not something that should be taken lightly, if everyone tries to save all the wild bees it could become a problem. The ones in the wild in the southern states, are Africanized hybrids and are rather nasty ones to keep. If people start to do this "save the bees" nonsense, people could get hurt.
wow, this is amazing stuff; macrophotography AND slo-mo! Also, as a previous commenter suggested, do yourself a favor and go to 3:15. I probably wouldn't have stuck around that long...
Hi , we are doing screening on environment films in India this June 5 2011, Would like to know the process if we can screen this Video. As we feel this is truly amazing piece of work. beautiful and totally inspiring !
@kmica2008 What is bullshit to you my friend is interesting to those who respect the skill, time and money it took to make this video, which gives the filmmaker the right to introduce his work and explain why he was motivated to create such a great work of art. There again, I guess you wouldn't understand the importance of foreplay either...just get to the action and satisfy yourself in 30 seconds aye?
1080p would look pretty mesmerizing with shots like these. Wow, look at that bat carrying the baby. Oh and I loved the shot with the spider and the Hummingbird at 3:45, that's one of the prettiest things just barely escaping from one of the scariest things.
Overall I'm not sure I'd call myself an environmentalist, but this did give me some wonder and awe about nature.
Here are some instructions to make a wooden house for one of natures best pollinator. The mason bee. It doens't sting and is a better polinator then a honey bee.
I don't like hippies & I don't like most environmentalists for several good reasons but there has always been one argument that I just can't argue against. Let's say you absolutely don't give a shit about the environment & all the animals...you really don't care. Now, why should you support productive conservation efforts? Because it helps you. In the end, making sure there is clean air & clean drinking water ensures you can keep doing whatever makes you happy. Help keep the planet in top shape.
He isn't lying when he said nothing lasts forever. There'll be lotsa neat discoveries in the far future and too bad we won't be around to experience it.
@mazdaplz Both spellings are correct, although pollinization first appeared a bit earlier than pollination. And according to my UK English spellcheck, pollination is the spelling used in British English.
@cristoretornebiblia Not to your comment, but regarding the fact that "This comment has received too many negative votes." Really? Really? A totally non-combative shout out to one's believed Creator gets negative votes? I love how so much of TED is about tolerance and so much of it is aimed at those narrow minded conservative Christians, yet you read the comments and all you find are narrow minded liberal athiests.
@2010FuckUTube I actually find insects revolting, I had to skip the close ups of the bees to save my self from an utter feeling of disgust just from the sight of them. However, that's not to say I don't understand their importance.
Last year I grew a giant pumpkin and had to self pollinate it.
This process is very simple and it is so similar to the way humans have sex it is unreal.
The male flower stem looks like a penis and the female plant flower looks like a vagina. This learning experience taught me that we have to have evolved from this planet and this planet is who we are.
I have pictures and enjoyed a smoke after the pollination.
A lot of evolution across the planet has come up with remarkably similar methods, even on isolated continents/islands where they evolved separately over thousands of years. Have some more smoke and check out some docs on Evolution, it is always a fascinating subject!

@triforcelink It WOULD be an interesting video, actually. Pollution is the same as Terraforming really ...putting a man-made atmosphere into a planet. For Earth, sure it's gross, and endangers us, but for other planets - for our colonies - it would be beautiful Pollution :)
... this just brings me back to how we are busy with the politics crimes wars and lies and how they dont allow us to enjoy the simple beauty of life ... :/ what a pity that we humans alwasy seek ways to destroy control and have more power than other people and eventualy we are always stuck in a visious cycle of hate revenge or simply seeking even more power ...damn i hate us humans ...cant we just enjoy peace and freedom ?
