"Fire" and "Voodoo Child" were Hendrix songs that are referenced in "So Long Jimmy." Blunt is comparing himself to Hendrix when he says, "Are you just cool and I'm just baked?" It was co-written with his friend, Jimmy Hogarth, so that's why it is spelled "Jimmy" instead of "Jimi."

As most of James's songs are inspired by events in his own life, it does not surprise me to hear that that is the case with So long Jimmy as well... For me though, the beauty of Blunt's work is that while the stories may be personal to him, they are also universal and have many layers of meaning. One cannot deny the many obvious Hendrix references in So long Jimmy.

He talks about playing riffs...."thanks for the experience" (Hendrix' group) and being mesmerized by "your fire".....all clear references to Jimmy Hendrix. Morrison did not play guitar. And the guitar lines in the song are clearly takes from Hendrix's guitar style.
