Have you heard of the Drumming Well at Oundle in Northampton? It was said 'to foretell war, or the death of some great personage'. I heard a spring banging in Somerset, it scared me a bit but I guess it was just air, like your bubbling rock.

As you can read in the description, I never worked it out... obviously some kind of spring or something surfacing in a weird way. Weird.
