Thanks Pauline1122 - the lights were both a response to the wild-beautiful emotion at that part of the song, but also had a darker purpose. If you look very closely when the first two lights enter, you can see the silhouette of a person carrying a flashlight. I didn't make it blatant, but I let him be cornered by a chasing posse at the end. The last lights moving overhead are meant to be from helicopters. He's at peace, and caught, and there is beauty...

What did you do this with?

I used Adobe After Effects. Made a series of articulate mattes to cut color layers. I kept adding keyframes to the mattes, pretty much working straight ahead to the music. I also made static fog layers and other graphics in Photoshop, then animated them in After Effects. It's a pretty cool tool to work with.

If you can get the "professional" bundle of After Effects, it has some really useful things - like letting you do live sketching of motion paths (with a stylus and wacom tablet for example) while listening to your soundtrack. I used that for the flight path of his "moth" hands.
