@killerkite333 Matt uses an effect called a Zvex fuzz factory. I have one and it is one of the most uncontrollable yet amazing sounding effects I've ever used! Matt is using one here, alone with another called a Phase 90 which is used during the solo and chorus.

Okay, let's put it this way. Shredders are people who solo fast. Real fast. Like 500 notes a minute.

The only song I know where Matt actually shreds is the solo on Invincible where he does the tapping bit, which is a technique of shredding. So there you go.
