@mantaishere this music hasnt been heard in 47 yrs and you say there is no footage.... you have ears I presume - why does everything have to be seen? Imagine if everyone was following the next presidential election with their ears and how that would change politics forever; mindful of the Kennedy/Nixon debate just a couple of years after this recording. OK rant over; enjoy the music....
@honeybozo Why does everything have to be seen? I don't believe I said anything to that effect, but clearly you needed a reason to start preaching. Lots of assumption in your comment, and actually I'm not sure why I'm validating it all by replying. Yes I have ears. My ears are great in fact, and I don't believe I asked for your lecture.
@mantaishere "Sigh... I guess there is no footage of these two together. God damn it." the moment you started to curse you asked for it buddy. You might have ears but there is no sense or brain attached to it -hence the limited idiom. This footage is gold and has implications you neither value or really appreciate.
@honeybozo Lol, It doesn't (have to be seen)...but footage of jazz cats from this time period is highly prized & can be rare, I'm sure @mantaishere knows music is for ears, and was simply expressing disappointment in searching for it and not finding any...anyone who's into the music enough to want vids of the musicians knows what it's all about. PS Sorry, but what does the presidential election have to do with anything?
@lovelymoonmelody again this footage hasnt been heard in 47 yrs. Assumption: anyone who's into the music enough wants vids? Why? Presidential election is pertinent, because it's mainly about image. This music isn't about image -was my humble point.
Seems to me that Monk is the most ruthless pianist ( at least as long as bebop is concerned ) that ever existed. I really think that he wrote the chords down for the rest of the band to play on, while he just sat there, being musically rude. Pure musical genius
Music aside.....There ain't nothin' cooler than watching Monk walk around in counter-clockwise circles before he sits down to play. The performance is nothing short of brilliant.
I can picture Monk doing his little dance,,,jab to the side... snapping his fingers while he circles around,, reaches his arm out again suddenly.. He did everything in style.
The case was closed long ago: yet more proof positive of the genius of Trane and Monk. Their musical identity is clearly established prima facie after only a 16th note's listen. Forensic analysis of the harmonic sequence revealed clear traces of the old standard song "Just You, Just Me"......it all adds up to conclusive evidence of unbelievably sublime jazz.
Why do so many people love(and play)Monk's tunes? Because they are so direct--no waste--and they say so much,in so many different moods and colors!!

Evidence. For what? Monk knows, as does John C. How the spirit flows, to us, from whence it came. Forever.
