  • Very cool thanks so much.

  • I am a 12 year old boy and I love crocheting!!!

  • @BLEACHFAN857 I'm a 12 year old girl, and I just learned to crochet from this. I've knitted, but I've never done this before.

  • @BLEACHFAN857 It's great that you're honest about it! Don't let your friends make you feel bad, either ^^ 12 is confusing and terrifying--just try to be yourself :)

  • @BLEACHFAN857 HAHA!! SO AM I well 12 in a few weeks BUT STILL COOL!

  • Thank you so much. I had been lost one one step for some now but your video helped a lot.

  • I tried to learn crochet quite awhile ago, but I had given up on it. I am trying to learn it now. I understand the steps now thanks to your videos. Thank you for these! :)

I have three hooks J, K, and N. I have a difficult time with the positioning. The yarn is never tight enough, it is always loose on my index finger. Any pointers would be great help!

  • Greetings from Malaysia! I just wanted to thank you for uploading this tutorial. I've been struggling for the last two days or so with instructions from a book until I came across this video. The sense of accomplishment (and relief) I feel right now can't be described with words alone. Thank you - you've made a grumpy woman much less crabby.

  • EXCELLENT CROCHET VIDEO! THANK YOU NAZTAZIA. I'VE WATCHED DOZENS OF VIDEOS AND EVEN BOUGHT ONE FROM A CRAFT STORE BUT RETURNED IT AFTER WATCHING THIS; NAZTAZIA IS AN EXCELLENT TEACHER AND THIS VIDEO IS THE BEST VIDEO ON LEARNING TO CROCHET OF ALL THE ONES ON THE WEB.

  • @WindWipper Wonderful! Thanks for the kindness and glad the video could help!

  • @naztazia hey donna, at the start i was like uhh this is hopeless and yes i was getting those wibbly wobbly results but now its getting on, thank you, its something i want to get good at, thanks again! :)

  • and my son wants me to make something to hold his mp3 player lol!

  • I bought a too small of a hook that's why I'm having trouble to learn. I will go this weekend and get a bigger hook. I want to make some pretty green dishcloths for my kitchen .

  • @SuperBettyboop40 Wonderful to hear you are planning projects for crochet. No problem with having the small hook - you'll use it in the future with some thinner yarn perhaps (for example, you can get "sport" weight yarn or "baby" yarn that is oftentimes thinner and works great with the smaller hooks). Green is a very lovely color - they will look great in your kitchen!

  • Why did you only do one loop?

  • @coolsteven2Hello - I don't understand your question... what part of the video are you referring to about doing only one loop? Most of crochet work only deals with one loop at a time. This is different from knitting, which keeps many loops on the needles at one time.

  • @naztazia No I mean. When you're going into the stitch (from the chain) you only have one loop on top of the hook and 2 at the bottom.

  • its so hard!!!

  • THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!! i looked at SOOOOOOOOOOO many videos, spent hours trying, never did a thing except chaining until i saw this video!! now i'm making a scarf!(: THANKS(:

  • Thanks this video was very helpful

  • Thank goodness! I thought I'd never understand it. Thanks for the basics! I'm onto my new hobby now :)

  • This video was so very simple and thorough. After watching this, I made a crocheted headband for my daughter that I saw on Pinterest. Looking forward to learning more detailed stitches! Thank you!

  • @Konnytu Wonderful to hear! Glad the video could help. Bet your daughter looks wonderful in her headband :)

  • why are you outside

  • @TheAshlee4eva omg thats wat i thought strange right?!

  • @TheAshlee4eva Better lighting for video outdoors. And no noise outside as compared to the screaming children, pets, and others who are all inside my house :)

  • Screw the hook, I use nails and fingers!

  • I can't even make the dang chain...>:/ lol well, do my best..p.s I am a begginer...:p

  • Super helpful video!!! I am teaching myself to crochet and I was almost ready to give up...until I saw this video. Now, I couldn't stop practicing even though my hands already hurt. Thank you so much!!!

  • @fuchsiapower Awesome - glad the video could help!

  • Really helpful thanks

  • This was really helpful. :-) I have a "I taught myself to crochet" book, but some parts of it were really confusing. Seeing it done in this video instead of trying to follow a diagram was so much easier.

  • :D

  • Funny Vid

  • very helpfull naztazia . thank u

  • OMG! I loved it! I started out bad but then I got the hang of it, its great!!

I taught myself how to crochet using a wooden needle type stick (used for barbecuing meat or vegetables) I learned how to do the chain from a neighbor when I was really young but now that Im a grandma I always wanted to make something for my grand daughter like a blanket, only problem I have is I tighten it too much and apparently thats not good. LOL! thanks again for the tutorial its really easy to follow.

  • @yperezmedinapr Thanks for the kindness and glad the video could help. Your grand daughter will love everything you make for her :)

  • now it all makes sense, alot of videos dont explain how to make rows very well

  • I can't keep the sides of my scarf I am making even. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

  • curses i made mine too tight

  • cant wait to start

  • This is the best tutorial I've seen! I just started to crochet, and although i didn't have the tools yet. I sat down with some string and practiced making chains and single crochet. I can't help but think it'll be easier with yarn and a crochet hook. XD But if i can do it with string, I bet I can do it with yarn. :D

  • lol i crochet with pencils! :) i already now how to knit so it is not a problem!

  • Thank you so much for this video! Your a great teacher :)

  • @LaLa2011baby Thanks for the kindness and glad the video could help!

  • Thanks <3

  • I am now inspired. Thanks a lot!!!

  • Hi, I am new to crochet but startng big. I am trying to make a Susie Johns fleted bag. I would like to know what this means.

5 dc into first ch, then working along the foundation chain, 1 dc (i,m ok with 1dc) but then it states work 6dc into last ch then 1 dc into each st along opposite side of the foundation ch. join with sl st to second of 2 ch. I am a knitter but would love to be able to crochet.

  • I am a knitter who is going to make my second attempt at crocheting! This is a great video so I expect it'll work out!

  • I don't know how many 'learn to crochet' videos I've watched, but this is the only one that shows is simply and clearly. THANK YOU!!!

  • Thank you for these videos... Very easy to understand. Would love more like this.

  • This video cleared up a lot for me! I have been learning with a book, and it makes a lot more sense after actually seeing someone doing it. Thank you!

  • Great Video!

  • Ok, did allfreecrochet copy allfreeknitting or did they copy them

  • @cheesytomato11 Hello - AllFreeCrochet and AllFreeKnitting are both owned by Prime Publishing LLC. If you check out their website, you can see that they also own quite a lot of other craft/food/sewing sites. Primecp dot com (sorry for how I need to post their web address - links don't post correctly here in YouTube comments).

  • She says to do 20 rows and when she comes back down on the 2nd row says the first one doesn't count and to count 20 more, this makes NO sense I think she needs to reword that because it's not working and causiing me a lot of grief.

  • @sueburbia There is a difference between stitches and rows. Every row has 20 stitches. And there are 20 rows. What I state at 2:22 is to skip the 1st chain at the beginning of every row. You do not count that chain towards the # of single crochet stitches in the row. You proceed to make 20 single crochet stitches in that row. Then you chain 1, turn your work, skip that chain, & proceed to make 20 sc's on the next row. Continue making 20 stitches per row until you have 20 rows.

  • Bluh, I can't thank you enough! I got this really difficult book on how to crochet but It makes no sense! This is really helping me out and seems very fun. I'm gonna stick with it! So thanks again!

  • nice,i started this looks fun to do and at the same time i can make things thanks.

  • I remember my Grandma trying to teach me how when I was alot younger, and getting confused and giving up. Coming back to it now, It's so easy! Thanks!

  • i made a half circle. for the 5th time ._.

  • i must of done somthing wrong.... i ended up with a triangle..

  • Thank you! I have never crochet a day in my life, but you made this so easy to understand. I learned how to do this in a matter of minutes. You're a great teacher!!

  • This is amazing. You made it look so easy! Thanks a lot!

  • This is what is constantly tripping me up as I try to get started: When I try to make a whole row, the chains are an inconsistent tightness. Some are rather loose, some are tight knots that I have no hope of sticking the hook back through. How do you ensure consistency, and what sort of tightness should one aim for?

  • @cherrypizza I'm having that same problem!! I've been trying to make a baby blanet and I've started over 3 times :(

  • First knitting technique I learned :)

  • Havent crocheted in years and this video helped me to refresh my mind on how to do it again! Thanks a bunch!

  • Thank you so much!! I'm ten and you just taught me how to crochet

  • Great video. Can I download it to review on my laptop when I am away from internet service?

  • Thanks! I actually think I know how to do it now!! Great video!! 5/5.

  • High five and ty.

  • Perfect video! I was up and running in no time and completed my first project right away! Thanks so much! I am in love with crochet!

  • I'm dutch, 11 year and i can understand this all

  • You can do the same with wool?

  • Donna, Thanks so much for doing this video. I am handicapped and on a limited budget. I never would have figured out how to crochet without. All classes in my area were too expensive. You are the greatest! God Bless and Best Wishes - Sandy

p.s. tried to email you on your website but it would not work.

  • Thanks so much! This video was perfect for me, because im more of a visual person and the whole video was just right. The vocabulary was helpful too!

  • Hi, Naztazia, I watched your both tutorials on basic crochet techniques and found them very helpful. I've been knitting for a good number of years but had never tried crochet before. The way you explained it made it so easy and clear. Thanks a lot. Happy New Year!

  • She doesn't explain that at the end of a double row, you have to add 2 chains before you turn, add 3 for a triple, and 2 for a half double. I kept wondering why my edges were crooked and not square.

  • @idatenn1290 Hello - this video (Part 1) only covers single crochet, where you chain 1. The Part 2 video explains things like double crochet, half-double crochet, triple crochet, etc. where you chain more than 1 at the end of a row.

  • Too hard i stupid.... :'(

  • @WinstonsKitchen Sometimes it helps to start off by having someone show you a few of the basics in person. Oftentimes your local yarn shop or craft store will have free demos. That can help set you on the right track - then the YouTube videos make more sense once you've seen a few things in person.

  • I don't understand this at all :(

  • This is a great video! Quick enough to get through without getting bored and slow enough that I caught everything :) Thanks so much!

  • @octiiXpies Awesome! Glad the video could help. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  • Thank you SO MUTCH you made it easy for me !

I didnt understand it until I watched your tutorial. Thanks a lot <3

    Happy New Year

  • @honeylio Wonderful - glad the video could help. And have a safe and Happy New Year to you too!

  • this was very helpful. thanks!!!

  • @SilverChakraShinobi Awesome! Glad the video could help. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi :)

  • why is she outside! weird

  • @livinglife796 Outdoor lighting is much better for the video camera (especially in HD) than indoor lighing, which has a tendency to be very dark and yellowish. That plus for that day it was quieter in my backyard than in my house with all of the screaming children, pets, TVs, computer games, etc. :)

  • @naztazia oh ok well its not bad i was just like why is she but ya makes sense

  • Mines looked ok til the second chain

  • Comment removed

  • Such a good tutorial! Thank you so much! :)

  • @OverTheHighestCloud Awesome! Glad the video could help :)

  • I wanted to start doing this because my brothers girlfriend does it, and I thought it was awesome... She got me a started kit for Christmas, and it came with a dvd, but it didnt help me and made me more confused.. thank you so much for this video, its not as confusing now..

  • @twilight151483 Wonderful! Thank you for the comments - and I know you will have fun with your new kit!

  • Thanks for this, although is there any video that has the 2nd row instructions slower? This is where I kept failing and had to rewatch over and over and it was still going too fast to keep up. Thanks

  • When I try to crochet I always think I'm going into the next stitch, but then at the end of the row, I have less stitches than the number in the chain. Then there are the ends. How long does it take before you can actually tell one stitch from another. I think that's my problem.

  • @genmama1955 It comes with practice and sometimes trial and error. Sometimes it's that first and last stitch of the rows that are confusing. If you are ending up with less stitches than normal, it's probably due to these ends. It's important to keep counting, but sometimes you have to look at your previous row and separate those stitches with your fingers to ensure you have a stitch above each one in the row you are working on and none have been skipped.

  • @naztazia Thanks. It looks like it's at the ends. Separating the stitches to look is a great idea. I guess now the trick is to learn about where to stop on the ends, (and start)!!! :) I'm still trying!

  • thanks for posting this! I want to crochet, and I'll definitely use this when I get the right supplies.

  • @EEM817 Wonderful! Thanks for the feedback and kindness and glad the video could help :)

  • @aenjgeal agreed!

  • Would you have a video that teaches you how to crochet a scarf??

  • This was awesome, thank you!

  • could you please help me!!!

ok so you do your second line with the two loops and under, over, throght and then we you finished do you do one loops and under, over, throght or two loops and under, over, throght? please help im only 12 years old but i want to learn some thing new.

  • helpful util i got to the second row thing where you skip one loop and go to the next, then i got confused

  • I suck at this. I should stick to shopping for scarves and woven blankets instead of making 'em....

  • Great video

  • This is so helpful! Thank you for the video

  • Thank you! I really like this video!

  • ive had to watch this video... like 10 times xD cause i get confused :/ but thank god for it :) its by far my favorite tutorial video

  • I am not quite a beginner with crocheting but it was interesting to see how you do your basic stitch compared to the one I was taught. Instead of going under both stitches. I was taught to go only under one part of it. Which in return made this neat line every other row... Can't wait to try your basic stitch now. Also although I have tried doing right handed before I actually do crochet with my left hand. Yet strangely knit right handed! Thank you for sharing this! I look forward to seeing more!

  • Thank you for making such a clear and easy-to-understand video! I was never able to understand where the needle went while crocheting, but now I really understand how to do it! Thanks!

  • @aenjgeal Same to me pal.

  • SO i made this project after watching this video like 50 times but it came out really weird looking! the sides poke out and look really wide and then suddenly become very tight and narrow! I was wondering what I possibly did wrong?

  • this is awesome i'm super excited..I have been practicing..and getting the feel for it!!

  • How should I start making a scarf? I am a beginner I want to make a scarf. Do you have any videos on how to make a scarf?

  • Im A guy!!! But This Is pretty Fun Even For a Guy:D

  • Great video. Very clear instructions, easy to understand. Thanks!! A couple more of these, going to make a longer one as a scarf, then I really really want to do a hat! Thanks for the basics.

  • For some reason knitting makes more sense to me LOL @ ___ @ gonna stick with it though, because you've got to be able to do both! :)

  • @TheSilentPrincess Glad you are sticking with crochet as well. It will eventually all make sense :) Thanks for stopping by!

  • Mine ended up in one big line :| I don't think that's how its suppose to work right?

  • @AllSaintsAngel Hello - the first row of stitches will be one big line. However you will need to turn your row and then proceed with crocheting on top of those stitches in that line. You keep turning and crocheting on top of the stitches below it to get it so it increases height-wise. Take care!

  • @aenjgeal I tried knitting, and honestly, I think walking on stilts upside down would be easier. :| I hope it's easier than knitting.

  • how do people invent these techniques?
