Nietzsche described the old Greecian tredgic chorus as bringing forth the "primordial unity," that is, a sense of morbid serenity that links all humanity, and reminds it of its lost collectiveness. I think this applies as well, and that's why it works.
Even if he was a power-crazed monster. I feel such pity for Tetsuo. He was, in so many ways, just a damaged child. When he was younger, he had no parents and kept a picture of a woman he thought was his mother, just a random woman he chose to represent his mother out of lonliness. His adoptive parents hated him, because he would always ask why his father didin't want to come and see him.
He was just so full of rage and bitterness. And despite being a monster, was the most human character of all
I heard them saying "numure" at the end and knew instantly it meant "sleep" or "rest". No, I haven't seen the movie. It was a truly moving moment to look up the lyrics and realize I'd just known instinctively by the sound. I guess I've absorbed more Japanese in the last 5 years than I thought. I kind of want to cry right now but I'm happy.
@MalenkyGoblin I dunno, the song starts at 9:36 somewhere in the 1980s. BTW, production of the movie was canceled, it would be a tough cinematography for the framing of ultimate power in a film.
@MalenkyGoblin I recall looking this chant up years ago, and I believe it was a Buddhist sutra ( at least one of the chants in the soundtrack was) Try looking up something like Heart Sutra or Shumyo. Normally the chanting is not done so fast, but slower like on the other Akira track.
FINALLY! THE WHOLE FUCKIN SONG (more like symphony) IN 1 VID! oh, & this might sound nerdy & trippy, but even tho im not religious, i find myself calm (at least until the part that sounds like kaneda's theme) & tense @ the same time, real & unreal, alive & dead, in the flesh & in the soul, almost as if i am in harmony w/the universe. go ahead, call me a hippie, but im sure most of u on this page have felt that 2 w/this song.
@LORDAKIRA2019 ha ha i wasnt calling u a hippie but no, sadly. i did have some Maximum the Hormone (amazing japanese metal band) but i lost my ipod. why?
This is absolutely te ULTIMATE Requiem EVER. Most Impressive parts starts at 01:23, intesify at 03:10, and again at 11:33. It´s Chorus makes my hair stand on end... "...- for it has begun already"...
I've watched this DVD with my brothers so many times. We love it and the soundtrack that we got. Watching the documentary on the soundtrack is amazing. They almost spent more time on the soundtrack than the animation. AMAZING Soundtrack. and movie.... and this song sums it all up beautifully.
I study Physics to this music. :)
