I remember kissing my first crush to this song in her room. After walking to her house with my parents wine pour into a water bottle. I knew the consequences but i didn't care either way... cause it was her favorite wine. I was so head over heels in love with her that i got the worst beating in my life from my parents when they found out i stole their wine. This song will always put a smile on my face
i must be crazy, but i do hear spandeau ballet's true in this song's music part, this sounds like a slower version. im not being offensive to the smiths at all, just a random remark made in a drunken hour by a very obcessive fan of them
Listening to this makes me cry but I only do that because The Smiths & Morrissey Is so special to me so sad, beautiful and captures you both at your most vulnrable, no matter how old you are you can go back to The Smiths and Morrissey and it'll always help you through whatever tough times you're going through. I can't wait to see him again in June. I love you Morrissey! You are my hero. xxx
The protagonist walks to their lovers house but their lover is depressed and wants to stay home. The protagonist is surprised by this because most people would want to go out and have fun, it is a societal norm "For you must". Their lover was hurt by something in their relationship in the past and thus they are depressed. "I don't owe you anything, but you owe me something, repay me now" means; you hurt me, why should I go out with you? I wish you would do something sincere to make it up
I am looking for a song of there's. The lyrics are " I traveled north again, I traveled south again. I met a man I killed a horse, I can't help the way I feel. Is it really so strange." I have looked and can't remember the name of the song. Help please.
Im still a kid at 18 years of age and fell in love with the depression of morriseys voice, being goth and all i dont know many others that listen to this, they neglected the depressed music and moved on to the death metal
@shadowsnonconforming There's a lot of fans out there. I think you made the better choice. Lyrically musically and just sonically better. No need to dress grungy and daft.
@osu612 And do you know why he said that? Because Mike Joyce said that its one of his favorite Smiths songs. "I will not change and i will not be nice..."
I am almost 40 years old. I still listen to the smiths.
My interpretation of this song...a girl/guy being narcist. Watch out for those. Leave them while you can. Only they can change. You take care of yourself.
some times they have a hard earned reason for being narcissistic, and often our biology and ethics make it too painful to leave them... neurotics and narcissists seem to find each other and get entangled, its the stuff that makes good smiths songs
why would a person leave the comfort of their childish narcissism in a world like ours? more lost than gained it would appear... not just in terms of comfort but also in terms of morals and spirit. anyone read Eros and Civilization by Herbert Marcuse?
Yes, long time. It is a great discussion. The advanced industrial society requires a technological rationality. Being successful means to adapt to the apparatus, ie, institutions, equipment and industry organizations. There is no room for human autonomy, to independence of thought, nor to the right of opposition.
The rights and freedoms, vital factors in the rise of industrial society, lose their meaning and content of traditional, institutionalized for a time share the same fate as inclusive society. Individual freedom, in technological society, it is above all a freedom of death, absence of values, alienation of the individual and social degradation.
Herbert Marcuse speaks of "mechanics of conformity", saying that before the meeting their own needs, the man fails to challenge the current capitalist system of consumption.
For Marcuse, the process of emancipation will only be viable with so-called "Great Refusal", or an absolute refusal of the established way of life, which must occur through demonstrations led by the revolutionary youth, not the people. In Eros and Civilization, Mercuse addresses such protest of youth against technological society, which regulates the body and mind of humans.
@miamormia i think who speak in this song is for sure narcisist, but mainly vulnerable, he/she cant accept a refuse, the phrase u should never go to them, let them come to you just i do is a liying phrase, because he/she goes to who she/he is talking to. the song explains contradictory feelings. in pschychological language, a speach enough neurotic. ahha. however lyrics, voice and music supplemented so but so well. cool very cool song.
@HandsomeDevil2001 I'm sorry if I already said this to you...I've been on this clip probably a dozen times, and I think I may have already said this to you at some point...I agree w/ you about this song, but "Well, I wonder" I don't think is underrated. All the Smiths fans I know rate that one pretty highly, deservedly so. But you're right: this is a gem that rarely gets mentioned. It's in my top five Smiths songs, absolutely.
@marigolds44 I can't think what KJV is supposed to stand for. I'm sure I'll have one of those "duh" moments when it occurs to me. I have no interest in the Tarot. My sn is a line from a song. Marigolds are nice, though. 44 is a pretty number as well; a bit redundant, and it kind of pales next to say, 83 or 14 and a half, but it's doing its own thing, so one has to respect it. Peace.
This is the greatest Smiths song ever!!! I don't know how many times I would put on this song in my car and just drive. To me I felt like the song is about how much you would give to someone and get nothing in return but it really didn't matter. You would do it again
yeah u can't mess with The hand that rocks the cradle, Still lookin for the TORY TATE version as I keep asking this great uploader /amtrotec2/ for itno one seems to have it the J MARR should release that album they have it, instead of all these compilations,
This is definetly my favorite Smiths song - I agree with another youtuber that their first album has stood the test of time. I think the songs on the first album are just soaked in real emotion - more so than their later albums. It also has Charming Man on it!
