@crackmonster99 A Life peer is someone given a peerage for the duration of their life. Hereditary peers, as the title suggests, is passed on to later generations. There hasn't been a hereditary peerage created in around 100 years.

Life peers are generally political appointees. Owing their peerage, and subsequently their noses in parliament's trough, to a politician (the Queen creating peers "on advice" of the Prime Minister).

Also, hereditary peers are usually high peers: Dukes, Marquesses etc.
