@MadDawg010 Where can I obtain DOS 6.22 for win 3.11 hassle free and floppie disk that can diagnose my old sataliet laptop. i don't want to do a reformat, but if I have to i will, would like to do it the old fashioned way, also where can I get HIMEM SYSTEM files.
@MadDawg010 YES! As a matter of fact I did purchase the complete box of win 3.11 from Ebay complete and sealed, but my system (Old 97 Toshiba Satalite )has become corrupted with Win 95 files and win 98 files. Whenever I get to th end of the installation it says "INCORECT DOS VERSION" which files do I delete in command prompt safe mode to allow the xorrect DOS version to overwrite the incorrect one?and can the himen files be copied from disk 5 to the laptop?
@etrax2000 You'll want check the timestamps and delete the pertinent files. Also, I recommend installing your OSes on separate partitions, so you can avoid such issues. As for the HIMEM files, if you can figure out how to extract them, you should be able to copy them over and use them. And as for your PATH= arguments, I don't know what to do about that. Sorry.
@MadDawg010 THANKS VERY MUCH !. I have ni idea of what I am doing, but I intend to do it anyway (LOL), I will beat this moster back into submission. I am seeing into the Windows system in ways that i never knew they wanted anyne to lnow about.. My file directory is corrupted with several different versions of Windows competing against each other. One last question, Can you tell me is there a way to create a partition on a small hard drive without damaging the fmain file system?
@MadDawg010 Will I be able to use win 3.11 and then later restore the older files on another partion with a partition creator?I see programslisted that can create a partition. would my original factory files be deleted or is there a way to restore to factory settings with the ability to install windows as an operating system or will I just get a blank hardrive with no way to install anything?
@etrax2000 As far as I know, you'll end up deleting everything on the drive if you try to partition the drive using old partitioning tools. I recommend slaving the hard drive to another computer and using GParted or EaseUS Partition Master to resize the existing partition. After that, you can create another partition, install Windows, and deal with the files on the old partition. This is assuming you want to keep the data that's on the drive.
@MadDawg010 LAST QUESTION (i swear) as I see this iste is for those who know what they are doing and wish to do more while I am still discovering exactly how ittle i do know but enjoying the solutions to rectify it(both the problems andmy ignorance). I just used the dos command DIR/s and discovered that I had over 8000 files on my hard drive instead of the 489 files that simply using DIR gave me. I am sure that the required proper files exist on the drive but in a state of confusion.
@MadDawg010 Is there a small program that can automaticaly correct, diagnose Windows hyarchy files and establish them in the proper directries.directing all programs and files to "GET BACK IN LINE" i have several dos versions in conflict, when I use winver I see 3,11 when I use MSD I see 7.
@MadDawg010 Is it safe to delete some comand files and start from scratch.this is a very small hard drive and I do not wish to do too much overw ritting of files which themselves are not that important but if I do a format will I still have the files that came with the lapop such as TOSHIBA information or does everything disolve into hyperspace. Technicaly these are more than one question, but soufuly, only one !I
@etrax2000 Hmmm... YouTube's comment system needs improvement... Anyway, to answer your questions, no I don't think a program exists that will fix the hierarchy, and if you format the drive, ALL data on it will be destroyed (well, it's technically still there, but that's getting quite technical), so you'll be able to start from scratch if you need to.
@flowrida45 Glad you got it working. The start menu looks like that because the Microsoft Zune Theme is installed. Google it up, it's all over the place.
@VictorHugo289mex I've had this problem a while ago; the issue resolved itself after I updated VBox. It is also possible that an update may very well be the cause of the issue, in which case you'll want to roll back to a previous version. Also, this video details the Windows 3.1 install, not the Windows 3.11 install, so there may be an incompatibility somewhere in 3.11.
So for the MS-DOS 6.22 ISO, you have to exit the installation, fdisk, make a partition, reboot, exit again, format c:, reboot, and then you can proceed, right?
@doshindude latest. I got it to work though, seems that DOS 7 has issues with VMWare unless you choose the minimum install option. Once I did that, it ran smoothly and I got 3.1 installed (albeit I can't really do much with it at this point, there's like, literally no software for it and VMWare Additions doesn't work for it, I just wanted to see if I could even do it, lol)
@77guacamole Sorry for the late reply. You have to mount the floppy image, which you can do from either the main window where you machines are listed or in Devices > Mount Floppy Image in the VM window (where the virtual machine is actually running).
hi, look i can´t find that windows ... i have windows 7, but i want windows 3.0 or 3.1 to my usb .. and so, you have the iso? or something please reply it in message!peace
Has anyone tried this with the ISOs from TechNet?

@etrax2000 The HIMEM files are probably on the DOS disks, which you can legally get from eBay or something similar.
