  • i loved this song!

  • Looks like the red dot should have shaved her armpit? Uuugh.

  • I agree with Spikepedistal... God I loved this song in my youth... Still a great track but think it's just cos it reminds me of when I was young....

  • I was there

  • Damien told me he wrote this and recorded it in a couple of hours on an 8 track in his kitchen... the BVs were added by a couple of numbers in a very impromptu way... Where is Damien these days ?@

  • @caeo100 He's well and fine, and of pensionable age. He always did prefer the rough version of the single as opposed to the studio version that is on all of the compilations.

  • Thought it was, " all the boys they wanna rape her". Toned down for TOTP most prob.

  • @walesfan1

show what a sick mind you have

    its "make her"

  • Well I was 14 at the time this Video came out.......Could have done the Bird in red big time!!! Oh well life as is......

  • Love it...........

  • I wish that tit wouldfuck off with his irritant fucking uninteresting boring vapid captions - what a tosser

  • This is wayyy better than I remember it. I haven't heard it in 30 years

  • Reaction!!!

  • Just class, really saying summat. Thanks to my cousins* for turning me on to this great ska segue between punk and new romantics.

*Cousins B, Mark, Helen, Leo, Lizzie, Martin, any that went to me nana's after 6 o'clock mass, no other cousins need apply

  • I thought the blonde dancer was Janice Long : (

  • Nice song. Love the dancing.

  • This song really takes me back to a far more innocent time. Sadly I am pretty sure that the singer passed away some time ago. Apologies if thats incorrect.

  • Love that. 17 at the time living in a town without a record shop. Loved dance music and pissed off with punk and rock and all came;;;;;;;;;;;;;11111111117

  • This wasn't thier only hit.... There was also "See you Later", which was a much better song... if only it was on here.

  • @Sazzied2 See my other videos.

  • @theonlyblackspot

How you doing? When I was a young un I went to buy a great song I'd heard by the Regents called 'Just A Little'....unfortunately I got it mixed up with See You Later and bought the wrong single.....if you happen to have Just A Little in your collection, I'd love to hear it! Regards etc DM

  • @spikepedestal I used part of it on a painting timelapse video I posted Nymph & Statue. Youtube is not allowing direct links it seems.

  • @theonlyblackspot

Thanks so much for that - I haven't heard it since It came out. Course it doesn't shimmer like I thought it would - but I've been romanticising it for all these years and things never live up to their memory, do they? Anyway, thanks again

  • @Sazzied2 ah but it is on youtube:)

  • This era was better then the 60's and nowadays with the fucking pc bollocks.

  • the girls dancing at the end absolutely hilarious

  • Who were the 2 girls in this video please ???

  • @snodds88 Kath Best & Bic Brack

  • @theonlyblackspot Thanx mate, pretty girls...

  • I loved this song....Guess i was 13 and wanted to be 7-teen....but still like it now....takes me back...

  • Brilliant, have been looking for this, googled it and The Regents came up : )

  • Thanks for posting this song I have been searching for it for years.

  • Comment removed

  • Love this .

  • Just to let you know that KP is no longer in PBar .........I am shocked over the news of Martin and I am deeply grieved....tell me who you are and I will let you know who I am......

  • @cinders230 PM'd you

  • My team HYPED this record into the charts back in 1979 and it DID GO TO NUMBER 11 on 22December of that year then we hyped SEE YOU LATER by the Regents in June 1980 which went in the top 100 at number 55 and on the ARISTA label whereas ``17`` was on the Rialto label...if you are around Martin or any of the old gang then contact me regarding Keith........

  • @cinders230 Martin unfortunately died in 1999. But is it Keith in Potters Bar or Keith in Leeds?

  • @cinders230 just to tell you that I am still around and remember well working with your team on the side and charting many records including the Regents.....Keith you are indeed the top promo man and I hope to see you very soon...

  • I have the original on 7" vinyl but it is the x-rated version.Much beter than this one which was tamed down for the tele

  • been looking for this song for absolutley years what a hassle trying to find it as I couldnt remember who sang it. Thanx for posting !!

  • what a bunch of Toss-Malones! Kin-chryste-almighty. Cringe-factor 10

  • I was also 17 at the time of this hit.

  • Fab song. I bought it at the time. Just sad thay had to change the lyrics to reaction! All good fun. x

  • what was the word they changed? I always guessed it was orggasm lol

  • @fuzzilu they changed erection to reaction.

  • This is really good songwriting quite Marc Bolan-ish actually.

  • if you look at this song and compare with the X-factor . whats happened to our music IND. what happened to raw talent and great music like this ??????

  • @jamhoward88

What happened! unfirtunately Simon cowell and his lazy arsed typed of quick profit no talent record producers appeared on the scene, oh for a record producer to actually go out to the clubs and pubs to come along....

Music today is often more than not very very much the poor relation compared to pre millenium.

  • @jamhoward88 God that's so true.

  • Seriously ahead of its time!

  • thats not a shirt steve wright you plonker, its a cravat.

  • its a superb track and took me many years to track it down as i didnt know the title ,the band and few of the words...first heard on the radio way back when the world was young and fresh to me...great song great days and have just ordered the album:)

  • Bloody hell this is the first time I've heard this since it came out. I recorded it off Tony Blackburn's top 40 when I was 8 with a tape recorder next to the radio speaker. It's a great track - better than I remember!

  • lol... that's what I used to do.

  • good enough for the x-factor

  • I wonder what the worst record of the 80s' was that Steve Wright mentions at the end of the video?

  • brill brings back loads of school day memories

  • HAHA! Found it!

I was 15, lolz. All the girls my age looked like this, bless them.

    Thanks for this video :-)

  • this is an ABSOLUTE British pop classic!! Hearing this again and reading comments about lining up at dinner time in 1980 put me RIGHT BACK THERE,INSTANTLY. Amazing flashback and frightening how fast the years have gone.

  • Also frightening how fast the good music has disappeared.

  • Years ago Andrew & Nana ran into Martin in Mercer Street Market stalls off Seven Dials in Covent Garden in the West End whist he was doing Funtopia and we had their single In A Summer Place. I last saw Damian driving a van through Conduit Street in the West End and chatted with him briefly but lost the phone number. Here is a new song that Nana and I have done that I hope Martin and Damian would have approved. Thanks!

  • This record places me standing in the dinner queue at secondary school, January 1980, and the guy in front was singing this song. Took me awhile to track this tune so thanks for posting! What a happening time musically. So much good stuff came out of punk.

  • How strange, haven't heard this since 1980 (recorded it off the radio on a Sunday night on a lilac cassette) and remembered it as brilliant. But no, it's rubbish!!!

  • GEEEEEEEESH I am at least 25+ years younger! Absolutely love the song!

  • Shit the bed! They are trying to be The League. Bless!

  • Except this was two years before them

  • The Human League formed in 1977 with the first ablum being Reproduction in 1979.

  • Arrrr maybe.. but this was ages before Phil Oakey even thought of adding girls

  • @LordWhittingtonBadge yep-reckon HL ripped the blue print

  • Love them. Will any more recordings see the light of day?

  • Maybe.

  • I hope so. Recently got the post-Regents single by The BIC from 1983 - 'Musica Pop'.

  • yes, the first thing said in this video is that its 1980. this charted at 12. in february 1980.

  • i remember the first time they came on totp he had on a denim jacket back to front. great record.

  • A really good reminder of when i was just a 10 year old.

  • I can't believe its that long ago. Where did the last 30 years go! Grateful that someone has taken the time and effort to put this on YouTube. 2.13 minutes of remembering what it what like to be young, at school etc. Cool song, although my kids would disagree.

  • Nearly 30 years ago? OMG, I feel ancient! Love this song so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is he gay?

  • That era between 1978 till the autumm of 1981 ???? was that New Wave ear for me.

  • I remember the New Wave ear, I think they got it from a dead elephant if I remember rightly

  • my radio alarm went of at 7 am and this was playing,it was in my head all day and i had to go and buy it..

  • I was at party with Brian ( guitarist) and he was funny cool guy.. Wish I had the chance to know him better....

  • Great tune and vastly underated! Happy memories, thanks.

  • Nick and Tim Heath signed these to their Rialto Records label in late '79, along with 'Planets' and 'Korgis'. They didn't have the money to make these bands successful sadly. The Mobiles were also signed to Rialto after this lot, and they also had one hit. All great post punk new wave. This reminds me of the winter of 79 into 1980. I'm sure John Fox and Underpass was in the charts at the same time, along with The Tourists.

  • god thought i wouldnt see this again lol , good posting

  • I have the original single and is dated 1979

  • It was released in '79 but hit the charts in '80.

  • the regents also had another hit called 'luton airport' released also in 1980

  • That was Cats UK...

  • that was lorrainne chase

  • early 1980 this was

  • the blonde back-up singer is now a really famous british actress by the name of lesley sharp , she's appeared in the full monty ,from hell & rita sue and bob too as well as many t.v series including after life , clocking off , playing the field , bob & rose , to name a few

  • rolfmao! Bic would be very surprised to find out she was born in Liverpool and I think she might have mentioned it when I last saw her.

  • Wasn't she in Emmadale too as owner of the Woolpack?

  • What? Lesley "I wish you wouldn't stick your tongue in my ear" Sharp! By jingo i think your right!

  • i was born 1993, no matter, this song is brilliant! nice one regents

  • Hi,

If anyone knows where Bic is, she is the blonde girl who was in the band, will you drop me a line. I´m Gary, and I used to know her very well, in fact I lived almost next door to her in Gibson Square, Islington with some very good friends of hers including Danny who sadly passed away a few years ago. Thanks

  • Sadly I don't, but I know someone who might. I'll pass on your request and link to your profile so you might get a message back.

  • Great, it would be great to get in touch with some of the old crowd. I was a very good friend of Danny Wright, we lived in a squat in Gibson square in the 70´s. I´m living in Galicia now (north west spain), still playing guitar and still having a laugh. I knew Bic and Martin (the singer) quite well and I´d love to know what they are all doing now.

  • I was 14 when this came out and I loved it. I was also mad about a girl called Shona Richardson and I used to sing 14 Teen, thinking of her.

  • i love this song, reminds me of schooldays!! weird looking guy singing though, catchy song

  • Imagine, those 2 girls must be nearly 50 years old by now.

  • Oh stop it!!

  • Its a human league cover band gone wrong...

  • They were before Human League...

  • Nah mate wrong there, Human League separated from Heaven 17 back in '78.

  • Late 1980, to be exact.

  • Woe takes me back .. Been after this tune for ages :o)

  • Is the lead singer really Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf? The only thing missing is the 'H' from his forehead.

  • I wish someone could make a hologram of Martin -- he was a really nice guy.

  • My God! It's studio engineering legend Brian Gaylor playing guitar and wearing a tie, rather than his trademark Dennis the Menace t-shirt and plimsolls. Remember that one of the girls developed a leather glove wearing fetish... Mmmmm!

  • Damian says he was such a sweet geyser, but he didn't actually play on the record. He can't remember the leather glove fetish though. ;)

  • That's right, Brian couldn't actually "play" an instrument as such, apart from perhaps the kazoo, so I suspect he was miming here on Top of the Pops.

  • I worked with Brian at the Roundhouse studios over twenty years ago. From our vantage point in the basement workshop - the "orifice" - we used to look out the window, ogle the girls sauntering down Chalk Farm Road and tell each other tall tales! Brian was indeed a top bloke who died tragically in a hang gliding accident some years ago. I chanced upon this memory lane clip while trawling through YouTube (as you do) and was surprised to see him.

  • D mentioned the lack of playing ability being the reason they let Brian 'go'. Actually Martin and Damian are the only ones playing the instruments on the records.

Last time Damian saw Brian was at Martin's funeral. He didn't know Brian was dead and was a bit gob smacked at the news.

  • out there in a world of itself phil oakey definately cribbed some ideas from them ha ha but this song was way ahead of the game here

  • Heh! Damian always said they were years ahead of their time. ;)

  • I bought this single when it was released and have still got it. I thought it was very cool and clever in those days, probably because John Peel played it. Now I think it's fun but very silly. Still, it's aged better than "Is that all there is?" by Christina, another record I thought was brilliantly clever but now seems just plain bad.

  • @auntiewrinkle Oh my God! Do you remember Christina? It's amazing what you can pick up at Youtube Towers. That song you mentioned is a cover of a Lieber and Stoller Tune. Christine also did a version of 'Drive My Car' by 'The Beatles', very good!!

  • Thanks for posting! Great song, great era!

  • another song that TOTP back in the day had to change a word just so it could be on the programme. The original line wasn't "a permanent reaction"...

  • So sad that they felt the need to erect barriers in those days :)

  • thats my dad. there making a myspace for anyone who enjoys listening to eighties pop ska whatever.

    xxx

  • Long time no see. How are you? I'll add you on MySpace.

  • What a gem! Thanks for posting!

  • I absolutely adored this tune! Played it non stop on my little record player. Still thinks it sounds amazing!

  • Fantastic record...pure eighties and I love the blonde in the thigh high skirt which suspiciously looks like she made it herself!! Rock on!!!! x

  • i went to primary school with the son of their lead singer (forgot his name) and the blonde woman (bic sheller). his name was oscar and he turned into an emo. they live in west hampstead in NW london

  • classic

  • love this song took bloody ages to find out what it was,so listened to it a million and 5 times!!

Just gotta find out what that "gogo a gogo" song was think it was Trio,Anyone know??!!

  • da da da

  • nah its not that one I've got that, its got some scary bloke on the video going isagogo agoog and this kind of do do do doo do do do do do doododdodod ,you know??!

  • watch?v=BMikAeK8rL0 for Da Da Da "Trio"

  • It was Landscape - 'Einstein a go go' Great tune which like the Regents 7 teen disappeared but stayed in the recesses of our minds for 20 odd years

  • aww thankyou! ive been waiting for ages for this song, not heard it in ages!

  • This was always one of the magical songs, I used to love. Here's one for you - Did they ever do an album? I believe so and a dealer told me he'd seen a a copy - but I've never ever seen one myself. I've got the 3 singles they done tho'

  • You can find their album on amazon. 7-teen was remixed on it, but they preferred the 4 track demo and released that as the single because it had a better feel.

  • I have been waiting ages for this. All I need now is the motels "whose problem" any one can help?

  • WOW! Thankyou thankyou thankyou I have the single but cant play it as I have no player thanx again!
