Damien told me he wrote this and recorded it in a couple of hours on an 8 track in his kitchen... the BVs were added by a couple of numbers in a very impromptu way... Where is Damien these days ?@
@caeo100 He's well and fine, and of pensionable age. He always did prefer the rough version of the single as opposed to the studio version that is on all of the compilations.
This song really takes me back to a far more innocent time. Sadly I am pretty sure that the singer passed away some time ago. Apologies if thats incorrect.
Love that. 17 at the time living in a town without a record shop. Loved dance music and pissed off with punk and rock and all came;;;;;;;;;;;;;11111111117
How you doing? When I was a young un I went to buy a great song I'd heard by the Regents called 'Just A Little'....unfortunately I got it mixed up with See You Later and bought the wrong single.....if you happen to have Just A Little in your collection, I'd love to hear it! Regards etc DM
Thanks so much for that - I haven't heard it since It came out. Course it doesn't shimmer like I thought it would - but I've been romanticising it for all these years and things never live up to their memory, do they? Anyway, thanks again

What happened! unfirtunately Simon cowell and his lazy arsed typed of quick profit no talent record producers appeared on the scene, oh for a record producer to actually go out to the clubs and pubs to come along....
Music today is often more than not very very much the poor relation compared to pre millenium.
its a superb track and took me many years to track it down as i didnt know the title ,the band and few of the words...first heard on the radio way back when the world was young and fresh to me...great song great days and have just ordered the album:)
Bloody hell this is the first time I've heard this since it came out. I recorded it off Tony Blackburn's top 40 when I was 8 with a tape recorder next to the radio speaker. It's a great track - better than I remember!
this is an ABSOLUTE British pop classic!! Hearing this again and reading comments about lining up at dinner time in 1980 put me RIGHT BACK THERE,INSTANTLY. Amazing flashback and frightening how fast the years have gone.
Years ago Andrew & Nana ran into Martin in Mercer Street Market stalls off Seven Dials in Covent Garden in the West End whist he was doing Funtopia and we had their single In A Summer Place. I last saw Damian driving a van through Conduit Street in the West End and chatted with him briefly but lost the phone number. Here is a new song that Nana and I have done that I hope Martin and Damian would have approved. Thanks!
This record places me standing in the dinner queue at secondary school, January 1980, and the guy in front was singing this song. Took me awhile to track this tune so thanks for posting! What a happening time musically. So much good stuff came out of punk.
How strange, haven't heard this since 1980 (recorded it off the radio on a Sunday night on a lilac cassette) and remembered it as brilliant. But no, it's rubbish!!!
I can't believe its that long ago. Where did the last 30 years go! Grateful that someone has taken the time and effort to put this on YouTube. 2.13 minutes of remembering what it what like to be young, at school etc. Cool song, although my kids would disagree.
Nick and Tim Heath signed these to their Rialto Records label in late '79, along with 'Planets' and 'Korgis'. They didn't have the money to make these bands successful sadly. The Mobiles were also signed to Rialto after this lot, and they also had one hit. All great post punk new wave. This reminds me of the winter of 79 into 1980. I'm sure John Fox and Underpass was in the charts at the same time, along with The Tourists.
the blonde back-up singer is now a really famous british actress by the name of lesley sharp , she's appeared in the full monty ,from hell & rita sue and bob too as well as many t.v series including after life , clocking off , playing the field , bob & rose , to name a few

Thanks
Great, it would be great to get in touch with some of the old crowd. I was a very good friend of Danny Wright, we lived in a squat in Gibson square in the 70´s. I´m living in Galicia now (north west spain), still playing guitar and still having a laugh. I knew Bic and Martin (the singer) quite well and I´d love to know what they are all doing now.
My God! It's studio engineering legend Brian Gaylor playing guitar and wearing a tie, rather than his trademark Dennis the Menace t-shirt and plimsolls. Remember that one of the girls developed a leather glove wearing fetish... Mmmmm!
I worked with Brian at the Roundhouse studios over twenty years ago. From our vantage point in the basement workshop - the "orifice" - we used to look out the window, ogle the girls sauntering down Chalk Farm Road and tell each other tall tales! Brian was indeed a top bloke who died tragically in a hang gliding accident some years ago. I chanced upon this memory lane clip while trawling through YouTube (as you do) and was surprised to see him.
D mentioned the lack of playing ability being the reason they let Brian 'go'. Actually Martin and Damian are the only ones playing the instruments on the records.
Last time Damian saw Brian was at Martin's funeral. He didn't know Brian was dead and was a bit gob smacked at the news.
I bought this single when it was released and have still got it. I thought it was very cool and clever in those days, probably because John Peel played it. Now I think it's fun but very silly. Still, it's aged better than "Is that all there is?" by Christina, another record I thought was brilliantly clever but now seems just plain bad.
@auntiewrinkle Oh my God! Do you remember Christina? It's amazing what you can pick up at Youtube Towers. That song you mentioned is a cover of a Lieber and Stoller Tune. Christine also did a version of 'Drive My Car' by 'The Beatles', very good!!
i went to primary school with the son of their lead singer (forgot his name) and the blonde woman (bic sheller). his name was oscar and he turned into an emo. they live in west hampstead in NW london
