These look delicious Betty. I am enjoying your recipes, gathering some ideas for the holidays. My sister makes these but hers look white on the inside vs. yellow and she does not use pecans. They look delicious!
@hector3798 You need powdered sugar. Some of my viewers have said that if you put regular sugar in a blender and blend it at high speed, it will become powdered sugar.
@Alexskitchen99 If you are having them for guests, they can sit out all day with no problem. I would store them in the refrigerator for long-term storage. And yes, you may use parchment paper.
@greenkawkabmuhsinahIt only takes about 30 minutes or so for them to be workable. You can speed this up by putting the mixture in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes.
These were a HUGE hit at my husband's company Christmas party.. in fact, right on par with my usual Buckeye balls (aka peanut butter) that I've been forced to make for the last 7 years. =D
For some reason, I did have a little issue with them being a bit too thin to roll, even after refrigerating for a bit - but since I'm used to running into this same problem with my Buckeyes at times, I just added a bit more of the dry ingredients here and there to thicken them up a bit. Worked like a charm!
I made the full batch of these tonight without nuts as I'm bringing them to my son's school tomorrow for the staff and don't want to set off anyone's allergies. Half with dark chocolate and half with milk chocolate. Used the toothpick method for dipping and it worked wonderfully. Thanks for the great recipe! What a treat!
Looks great! I made the peanut butter ones & they were GREAT! In fact, I was asked 2 make them again.I used a toothpick to dip my balls into the chocolate as well.I also kept the toothpick inside Each peanut butter rice krispy ball so my quests&family could pick them up with a toothpick. Betty your so great! Thanks! Ohhh from time to time I only get some of your videos to my email. I've only received 1.The other videos I have to search for. I adjusted my sttings. I'll keep trying tho. Thanks!
Another yummy recipe thank you and I have a some chocolate dipping spoons, make it much easier to dip. Also maybe use a wire rack to place the bonbons on so the excess drips off and instead of puddling but really as long as they taste good and who can never get enough chocolate LOL
Another (factory) method is to just pre-make the chocolate bases (discs), by dripping melted chocolate onto the waxed paper to form circular discs. Allow them to cool, then place the balls on top of the discs. Then simply cover the pieces with the melted chocolate, either by carefully spooning it over them, one by one, or you can put the melted chocolate in a Ziplock bag, & poke a corner hole to make a makeshift baker's decoration bag... hehe make intricate, drizzle designs on 'em!
Hey, hey Betty! How's it going? The double-spoon method is okay... but you might get better results using two cocktail forks. Simply rest one rolled ball on the top of one fork, and then get the other fork and use it as a safety-net on the side as you carefully dip the ball into the chocolate. As you lift them back up, just shake off any excess and allow it to drip back into the boiler, then carefully use the guiding fork to gently guide the covered ball onto the waxed paper. Cheers! :-)
I used a slotted spoon when I made your chocolate peanut butter bonbons and that seemed to work nicely. They were a huge hit. I'll be making more I'm sure!
This video was just great. I like that you gave other alternatives during the process too.
I was just wondering what other finger-style goodies I could make this year to hand out as gifts besides my usual peanut butter Buckeye balls, and I must say, Betty, these sound divine!!
These look great! On another food-related topic, why didn't any of my friends tell me that pork rinds are actually deep fried pig skin???!!! I ate those things thinking they were made of corn like Cheetos are! BLECH!!!!
Mmmmm....... so tempting! I'll have to make this my guilty pleasure. You make everything look so easy and delicious, Betty. And you always look so good doing it! Happy Holidays to you and your family! X♥X♥X♥
They look gorgeous!! If you use a chocolate dipping fork (It's a fork specially made for dipping things in candy melts/chocolate), this work is much easier:)
can you use margarine instead of butter, and would you please do a video on shortbread cookies, i cannot seem to get it right,i use margarine, should i use butter only? thanks Betty

I don't know what happened but mine came out very watery and I can't make it into balls.
chingychao 1 year ago
@chingychao Anytime a mixture like this is too runny, just add more of the dry ingredient (confectioner's sugar)--unless it's ridiculously runny.
