The dynamic between Dixon and Balboa was a nice change. Instead of creating yet another villainous antagonist to balance out Balboa, Dixon was just an undefeated and untested champion. The story is great because both men find redemption in their fight against each other. I really enjoyed this one.

Remember that the panel of judges conclude that Rocky is in good enough condition to fight, which of course contradicts the brain damage diagnosis in "Rocky 5." Stallone has stated many times in interviews that he was disappointed with how "Rocky 5" turned out and reimagined this years later as a better ending. So essentially one has to forget about the whole brain damage thing.

a lot of people seem to forget the alternate ending Stallone decided not to go with that's on the dvd where he does win. He said this ending makes it more realistic and showing that he still won for himself, in his heart he done what he needed and it didn't matter on the outcome of the fight. He just wanted to prove he could do it, and he did.

And from a sentimental point-of-view, it maintains the fact that Rocky only ever won the title-fights that Adrian witnessed from start-to-finish. The whole ending is a total win-win situation. It completes the Rocky/Adrian story nicely, it gives Rocky a dignified finale and Rocky gives Mason "on the job training in courage" and a much more marketable (and bankable) image. Well done Stallone! A decent ending to what has been thirty glorious years of Rocky Balboa!
