Poor old wejump2xpoles, like Don Quixote tilting at windmills, he has condemned himself to a sisyphean life galloping through the ether in defense of the indefensible. As he strikes down one non believer, lo, another pops up on another site - and away he gallops again on his futile quest, ever crying into the night, 'the alpha and omega of all judging say it's right, so it must be so'. And on he gallops, and on, and on.
I don't ride at FEI because I cannot believe that this is what people call 'lightness'. For your information I'm a student of a french master named Philippe Karl which means that I would have to be able to not only ride passage/piaffe but also train it. Properly. I refuse to respond to any more of you and your friends' completely asinine comments.
@coucouper1 Yes of course you are a dressage master with out one picture of yourself. Most people that can't ride FEI are "classical" and of course all the I judges and O judges just don't get it like you do. As to asinine please review you own comments.
@coucouper1 I went to Philippe Karl's web site. There are no certified instuctors from his school in any part of north america, so you clearly are not telling the truth. I copied this.Unfortunately, there are sometimes persons who pretend to be riding or teaching according to Philippe Karl's philosophy of Légèreté and use his name for advertising, but who in fact had no or not much direct contact with him and his system. Please make sure to always check the appropriate qualifications!
@wejump2 However there are people in the training portion of his course in Canada right now, and I am taking lessons from this instructor AND going to his clinics. Well done on the research front.
Huh? You guys all think this person is training this horse to piaffe in the video? I think the horse already knows full well how to do it, but like in the other videos is giving inconsistent aids and just jerking the horse around. Not literally, but by requesting that it do something different constantly.
@canadagirljackie I am curious to see your piaffe and passage. It's so easy to sit on the side lines and throw stones. I find people like you tend to not have a clue. So PLEASE show me your video of piaffe and passage,
I like most of the epona.tv videos, and I like the philosophy of your side. But I really don't get what is wrong here? He trains his horse in piaff and passage for a short period of time, the horse doesn't do it correctly in the beginning (but hey who does). This video must be from JBK horse show in Odense 2009, keeping in mind that the horse is only 9 and the guy has only ridden him for about a year, I think he is doing a good job.
This rider is doing a great job of teaching the horse Piaffe and Passage. The horse is very light on the forehand. The rider is not carring a whip. The horse struggles with rthym, streightness and is from time to time wide behind This markc person is just a master critic that owned a runt of a shuffeltano once. I think she reads too much and rides too little. It is so easy to sit on the sidelines and throw stones. I would love to see any of these critics post a video of them doing a better job.
urm - obviously I am against Rolkur etc., but can someone point out to me what is wrong here? All I can see is a horse learning to perform a movement - please can someone explain to me the issue? (just curious as to what im looking at)
@321clara123 I agree with you. the horse is learning 1/2 steps and gets rather good at the end. It has been my experience that several people here and eponatv use this venue as an opportunity to attack any training they don't agree with.

I would love to see a video of you doing either piaffe or passage. Your use of generalities "ignoring the metal and physical..." is not in USDF or FEI directory of terms.
Ive personally witnessed far worse so called piaffe and passage training at a well known training establishment in Europe. In the form of hit with the whip, kick with the spurs and then a hard, sharp yank on the reins. Apparently trying to annoy the horse into performing the movements. Mostly all you could hear was the whip..

Hi Epona, thank you for sharing, more and more people will learn to see what riding in lightness is and ask questions to how we want to treat our horses. Kind regards Stina Herberg
What is that happless stomping supposed to be??? Passage? Piaffe on the forehand?! Is that a new invention??!! these people are so so ignorant this is a nightmare for the horses... Thank you Epona, keep it up!
Hello. We were very curious on the same matter after having captured this sequence about a year ago, and did ask the Danish Equestrian Federation to comment on the footage. Their reply was that this was a horse "in the process of learning passage" and that the rider could not have handled the situation better.
@eponatv lol, if they had actually trained their horse properly, and in LIGHTNESS, I have a feeling the passage would have come much nicer. Plus, why are you schooling a movement your horse doesn't understand, in abusive manner, in a warm-up ring at a competition?
Wtf? I've NEVER seen a horse move his hind end like that before.....

@coucouper1 It's funny how you master critics never have a camera, a horse, the ability to post a video of yourself
doing piaffe or passage.

I am not endorsing hyperflection and I don't ride my horses super deep. I think this rider is doing a very good job on a very suspended horse.
I am curious do you have any videos of you doing 1/2 steps or are you just a master critic?

On the forehand? That horse is very very light on the forehand.
