  • This is a message from Andrews AFB from the DC, Maryland, Virginia area. hes not making a correction. "I say again." means hes about to repeat the message. Thanks for posting.

  • What is the point of just saying random numbers and letters

  • @Aviator14 Prove the system works? Encase they are one day not random?

  • @Aviator14 If you've played and finished the game: COD Black Ops, you would understand! :)

  • @Aviator14 This will explain more:

  • What does EAM stand for ?

  • @kb4iuj Emergency Action Message.

  • picture oscar eik doing alpha hotel picture doudliet uniform x-ray hotshot seven uniform block shot uno two star i say again seven bravo seven seno two bree take pack

  • That is am EAM message.

  • That is correct.

  • It was known that Russia would have taken out the US comm satellites in a first strike, so land based HF was (& still is) a back up comm system.

  • What are you using to receive these communication signals? Would appreciate your reply...

  • An Eton E5 portable radio.

  • This is a USAF EAM (Emergency Action Message.) This is a coded message that goes out to bombers, AWACS, missile silos, etc. They decode the message and get orders this way. The voice is a real person. Try 11175kHz, this is always a pretty active frequency. The messages aren't always emergencies, it's just that they have priority over all other traffic on the net. In a nuclear war, this freq. would be lit up.

  • Mainsail76 thanks for clearing up the purpose, I knew what its for but now my viewers can to, I was hoping they figure out themselves and get more interested in the subject

If there was a nuclear war, ignoring EMP's since radios in a bomber or silo would obviously be shielded how does Nuclear Weapons affect the ionosphere I was always lead to be think radio communications other than on the LW band would be absolute useless.

Will listen in to 11175 khz, I now its a real person but was it live?

  • The EAM transmissions are live. Sometimes, if you listen long enough, an EAM message will be cut short in mid message to allow a more important "SkyKing" EAM message to go through.

  • After a nuclear exchange, the USAF would rely more on SLFCS (Survivable Low Freq. Communication System)as well as Milstar satellite EHF for their EAMs since the ionosphere would be useless for a period. HF would still be used if and when the conditions allowed. The problem with LF is it's low data rate.

  • Really nice in depth reply Mainsail76, hopefully that will never happen on a mass scale.

  • Or on any scale for that matter!

  • it was probably just a test, i heard a valid launch message was 24 charecters, the message means nothingon its own.

  • just subscribed to your channel. getting the e5 for my birthday may15. it looks good.thanks

  • Thanks for the comment

    turnermedman and happy early birthday..

  • thanks. i might getting it tomorrow now.
