Atmosphere is a very touching song something of real beauty, very moving.
One thing about the Curtis dance, it had no real prescedent or antecedent it was completely unique and a one off. No one else has ever tried to copy it I suppose it just wouldnt work.
this song seems to come from so far away doesn't it?
It has a very 'spacial" feeling, do you agree?
there's a band from the 80s, very big in Brazil, that has a few songs like JD, even the singing... one of those is "Tempo Perdido" , also one of their greates hits. "Angra dos Reis" too is a hit that reminds me of JD somehow (the band is "Legião urbana", "Urban Legion").
check it out here on youtube (they won't let you post a link in here)
I didn't even know of JD or Ian Curtis until the early 90s, but I feel as if we lost a truly gifted person. This is one of the most beautiful songs. Ever.
I ve just watched 'Control' and it has really moved me, I think that Ian and the rest of the band had a chemistry that is rarely replicated........all the best people die early
Brings goose bumps, it's a song of astonishing beauty and vulnerability. Ian Curtis bared his soul in his work, it's incredibly moving and timeless.....
The BarefootServant nailed it. That quote was so dead on, haven't heard that before. Welcome to some truly wonderful music chumbersdee your in for a treat. Greatest band ever.
Anthony Wilson, founder of the legendary Factory Records, put it this way: Punk enabled you to say Fuck you, but somehow it couldnt go any further. Sooner or later someone was going to want to say, Im fucked, and that was Joy Division.

@tvpro Hi. BarefootServant was my old profile, and im so glad to have found this video by accident. I like coming back to old vids and such, this on is the best tribute video for ole' Ian. I hope everyone's doing well and hang in there. Lets just listen to the music.
@TheBarefootServant That's pretty cool. Punk certainly provided an antidote to the over-indulgent musical excesses of the 70's. Perhaps "I'm Fucked, Fuck You Too & Thanks For Listening" would be even better? So many metalheads think metal is like classical music because it's "Technically Challenging". Without pushing the analogy too far, I've always thought JD/New Order closer in their structures, use of intervals etc. + the fact most difficult metal involves fingers moving faster than brains!
My God. This band was so ahead of their time. I'm just now getting into Joy Division. I was kid back in '79 and such, but I was just listening to all that fun new wave music like Adam and the Ants, Duran Duran. I can't believe there was some incredible stuff going on right under my nose. Well, anyways, I'm loving them now.
Great video, thank you.
