Too bad members of Congress are already tossing around the idea of removing those "automatic triggers". Fortunately the Speaker, President, and Senate majority leader have all said they will shut down any attempts to do so. Regardless, this is just another example of Congress not willing to compromise. Our very nation is built on compromise, and words can't describe how bad this Congress has gotten.
If someone's an incumbent, vote 'em out. Show Congress we mean business.

@randomperson300145 Ya. It would be a helluva coincidence. This debt crisis truly has the potential to own the global economy if it unravels badly. IMO the US is lucky that all the negative headlines are focused on the EU. However, if the US does not sort its shit out, then its next in line.

The average current senior citizen paid about 150k into Medicare over the course of their careers. The average current senior citizen receives about 450k in Medicare benefits. The difference is debt-financed and the cost will be born by the future generations long after seniors have cashed in on this scheme.
The Dems thought they were going in to negotiate a deal. But a deal is when both sides give something--it's not a deal if only one side is giving up on something, it's a surrender. The D's should not have been surprised to find the R's were just there to demand the D's surrender. The R's want to bridge the gap solely through budget cuts. This was to be the culmination of their effort to destroy the remnants of the New Deal and the Great Society. But fortunately, the D's are not surrendering.
Wow, people who freaking hate each-other with all of the emotion of Brian Blessed on meth couldn't come to an agreement... That's the most shocking thing I've heard since I learned that water was wet.
Lots of people are bitching about this Committee. Yes they're idiots, they should all be kicked out and so on. However, excluding one who's retiring, the other 11 will all be re-elected.
Why? Because they're rich and powerful. They have connections Inside the Beltway. They're loyal to their party. This means that the national party will donate to their re-election campaign. And people will vote for them because they're the "lesser of two evils".
@whereismybailouttv Why are people cowed into this bullshit? Vote for an independent then...ANYTHING but the establishment candidates. If everyone did this, things would change dramatically...hopefully for good :-P

I really like TYT but I wish that Cenk would've said something about Obama standing up to the Republicans in Congress by stating that he would veto the automatic spending cuts --- most of which is needless defense spending --- that Republicans want to undo (which was a statement he made at a press conference after a deal wasn't made). I think President Obama has caved-in to Republicans on alot of issues, but he's done some decent things that don't get recognized too often on this program.
@tbee20101 Obama has caved in so much, he's no longer a Democrat. I'm sure you're so gullible though that you'll point out a few instances of Obama being tough recently. The sad part is he wasn't tough before election year and that's all that counts with us. We don't give a crap about what Obama says to get reelected now. He's a disgrace of a politician.
@shadowedge69 Completely agree. It's like he's not even trying. It's like he's a complete corporate robot. I mean, he's so intelligent, can he not see that he's creating an appauling hypocritical image of himself right before his election? I think that the powers that be are trying to get Cain into the Republican nomination, so people will re-elect Obama based upon the fact that he's running against a total idiot.
@shadowedge69 Indeed. We need a strong president. A president that will resist abusing his power. A president that will not cave in to pressure. We need Ron Paul.
Between 2001 and 2010, the Bush tax cuts added $2.6 trillion to the public debt, 50 percent of the total debt accrued during that time. Over the past 10 years, the country has spent more than $400 billion just servicing the debt created by the cuts. @MrSpencerport There was not a supermajority in the senate in those years. In fact tax cuts were made during those years because nothing was going to pass the republican senate. The republicans in the senate held the country hostage during those years demanding more tax cuts for unemployment benifits and programs for the poor such as SCHIP. 60 votes were required for passage and the democrats did not have the 60 votes. Taxes were cut and the so called job creators once again lied.
The senate could have just ended the silent filibuster and enforced the talking filibuster rule...in other words you have to speak for hours to block something
Nothing liberal happened because the blue bitch democraps aren't liberal, they're the good cop to the retardlickanuses bad cops
Nancy Pelosi and Reid aren't liberals, they're right wingers that talk a good game but fold like a house of cards instead of passing anything
I actually don't think the Super Committee was even legal. What authority does Congress have to create a new brand of government that has the power to overrule Congress itself. That seem unconstitutional to me.
This is just another dodge to decimate the economy while keeping their finger prints off the mess.
Bwah, hah, hah, hah! Yes, the Republicans suck. I'm a nonpartisan, but I'm leaning towards the Democrats after this debacle. I hope the conservatives stay mired in their own greed long enough for the tax cuts for the wealthy to come to an end. Don't touch our social security and medical benefits--not all of us are rich.
It is good that all the terrible GOP demands were not met, and it will be good for the national debt that the Bush tax cuts will expire. However, I wouldn't use Cenk's term "awesome" about this, because now large spending cuts will be automatically triggered, which is just the opposite of what the economy needs in a recession - massive government spending to stimulate the economy.
@rjw78741 As long as there's baseline budgeting there will never be a cut in anything. BTW when is Harry Reid going to produce a budget, it has been almost a 1000 days since the Senate has produced a budget.
@MrBoy219 you make it sound like it's a bad thing. liberals are for decreases in our bloated military, and increased taxes, in case you didn't notice, that means the deficit goes down...
I love your show guys. Thank you. If I may offer my two cents: Change your slogan "The Largest Online New Show in the World" to just simply " The World's Largest Online Show." This just sounds more solid. Thanks again for your work.
Great show, but I see the bugs still need to be worked out on a few things, like sound. Also, am I supposed to pay attention to Cenk or to the flag graphic on the right?
No, it's bad news, Cenk. The OWS street movement needs to hit the accelerator or it will fail - the government trying to screw you over and failing will not do it is nice in the short term, but the american people need to see and feel the painful effect of a corrupt government. I hate to say, but you need to push your country to the brink before it changes, and it has to be now, while there's momentum in the OWS movement.
Congress passes new bills canceling all of the defense cuts in the trigger and extending the Bush tax cuts. So you're left with 600 billion in cuts to things conservatives don't like anyway.
Last night TYT did videos on important subjects like this one on the Super Committee failing which is great but all people see to talk about is the echo in the studio Cenk's in. Give it a rest people. There's an echo in the studio Cenk's in because it's empty just liike the heads of the people who keep complaing about the echo.
Stand against; Medicare/ Medicaid, Social Security, collective bargaining, unions, teachers, firefighters, cops, the middle class, the poor, African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Europeans, & LGBT community.
Who's left to vote for them? Oh that's right, racist hicks, misinformed white americans, large corporations, & the wealthy.
& Great Colleges while the rest of Americas kids will continue to fall behind. Remember it's the Republicans that wants to do away with Federal Education Programs. So we can either take our country back from these Republicans and the radical Tea Party, or we can end up in the same shoes as Mexico & most the world.ONLY THE RICH and the rest of us POOR.NO MIDDLE CLASS
take away the entitlements that help the less fortunate, take away the Seniors Social Security and Medicare. We always hear about how we are leaving our children and grandchildren this burden of debt..It's the Republicans, because you can't even compromise one inch, so what if our kids are left with this debt burden, they are going to be to stupid to know it because our Education System in this country has hit rock bottom..but you can bet the Repulicans and their kids will go to Private Schools
You wonder why Mexicans want to come over here to America where they can work and make money (any work, and most of the work is work we americans don't want to do anyway) It's because over in Mexico in their country there is the RICH and the POOR – NO MIDDLE CLASS and that is what is happening here in AMERICA.The GOP is out to do the same to this country, give every tax break to the Rich and put all the Taxes on the backs of the middle class, give the Rich all the loopholes, take away the entit
I agree, how could anyone vote GOP! However, it is getting harder to vote Dem. Both side are run by lobby driven tools- they are nearly all on the take. Even if we vote them out after one term they are loaded with a big pension and benefits. Somehow we need to find and vote honest people that won't steal. By the way Gingrich was paid 37 Million by the Health Care Industry and he leads to GOP race.
There's an upside, but seriously, JUST expiring the tax CUTS isn't going to be enough. There ought to be SOME INCREASES on taxes for the wealthiest as well. Nothing HUGE, but they should be paying a little over 40%. Or at least back to the 39% that it's supposed to be, and find a way to get rid of any money flowing to Blackwater (Xe), Halliburton, and the war profiteers, and perhaps some increases for those that remain taxable (Xe left the US, technically). Our taxes pay for their wars.
And you think the automatic trigger cuts won't cut into social security and healthcare? It's not all great news. The deficit may be reduced but that doesn't mean the economy will become better.
I don't understand why the super committee was formed of 6 dems and 6 repubs. It was destined to deadlock. It's nothing more than theatrics. Why didn't they throw in 1 libertarian to offset things? 12 is an even number. 13 can't get deadlocked. But what do I know. I'm just some crazy kid on the internets. :)
@Xaklyth Perhaps. Just as progressives are still democrats. America is in dire need of a third party. This duopoly we currently have is running our nation straight into the frickin dirt.
This MIGHT be giving the Super-Committee too much credit but what if this was their plan all along? Okay maybe not for all of them but the majority. They deadlock and the cuts get activated plus the rise in tax levels. Everyone gets to blame the other side but the debt gets reduced and asses are covered. Best of all Grover strokes out in apoplexy. Hhmmmmm. Could it be?
Only way getting anything done that will benefit the american ppl is to shut out the republicans from all real politic work in the near future coz they are not interested in saving US, they are only interested in saving themselves.
great news indeed! our national debt is passed $15trillion and climbing. Soon it will be near $20trillion and climbing, then $25trillion and climbing, oh boy how great is that?? America's credit rating will be down graded more! WOW, we will get to pay higher interest rates!
if only we could get to tax the rich, they're a infinite source of monies
they need to pay their fair share, as defined by Obowma, fair share meaning he gets to come up with new spending proposals, they get to pay for them
@genie0390 the debt is there because govt borrows from banks. if govt created it's own money it would have zero debt. e.g. abraham lincoln's greenbacks; greenbacks won the civil war; non debt based fiat currency
@genie0390 if u don't borrow you cannot go into debt. very simple premise and abraham lincoln did it; won the civil war with debt free greenbacks. i haven't seen a single cogent comment from you
@BOZ11. Don't try arguing with genie0390. He's a child and you'll give yourself a headache arguing with them because all they know how to do when someone tries to be mature by using logic, reason and truth is to respond with lies, racism, fear mongering and insults.
The supercommitee was always going to fail. The Dems would have compromised, the Republicans would have moved the goalposts, and the Democrats would have compromised and the Republicans would have moved the goalposts and on and on, and the Democrats would have never been able to keep up with the goalposts.
Too bad members of Congress are already tossing around the idea of removing those "automatic triggers". Fortunately the Speaker, President, and Senate majority leader have all said they will shut down any attempts to do so. Regardless, this is just another example of Congress not willing to compromise. @MrBoy219 you make it sound like it's a bad thing. liberals are for decreases in our bloated military, and increased taxes, in case you didn't notice, that means the deficit goes down...

@brandtaylor93 maybe the fact that you guys spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined? jeez

Great show, but I see the bugs still need to be worked out on a few things, like sound. Also, am I supposed to pay attention to Cenk or to the flag graphic on the right?
Hoofin2 3 months ago
No, it's bad news, Cenk. The OWS street movement needs to hit the accelerator or it will fail - the government trying to screw you over and failing will not do it is nice in the short term, but the american people need to see and feel the painful effect of a corrupt government. I hate to say, but you need to push your country to the brink before it changes, and it has to be now, while there's momentum in the OWS movement.

The play here is obvious:
Congress passes new bills canceling all of the defense cuts in the trigger and extending the Bush tax cuts. So you're left with 600 billion in cuts to things conservatives don't like anyway.

GOP= Greedy Oblivious People
Stand for; big business & the wealthy

Punit2639 3 months ago
take away the entitlements that help the less fortunate, take away the Seniors Social Security and Medicare.
Punit2639 3 months ago
You wonder why Mexicans want to come over here to America where they can work and make money (any work, and most of the work is work we americans don't want to do anyway) It's because over in Mexico in their country there is the RICH and the POOR – NO MIDDLE CLASS and that is what is happening here in AMERICA.The GOP is out to do the same to this country, give every tax break to the Rich and put all the Taxes on the backs of the middle class, give the Rich all the loopholes, take away the entit
Punit2639 3 months ago

duncan7599 3 months ago 2
This MIGHT be giving the Super-Committee too much credit but what if this was their plan all along? Okay maybe not for all of them but the majority. They deadlock and the cuts get activated plus the rise in tax levels. Everyone gets to blame the other side but the debt gets reduced and asses are covered. Best of all Grover strokes out in apoplexy. Hhmmmmm. Could it be?

great news indeed! our national debt is passed $15trillion and climbing. Soon it will be near $20trillion and climbing, then $25trillion and climbing, oh boy how great is that?? America's credit rating will be down graded more! WOW, we will get to pay higher interest rates!
if only we could get to tax the rich, they're a infinite source of monies
they need to pay their fair share, as defined by Obowma, fair share meaning he gets to come up with new spending proposals, they get to pay for them
genie0390 3 months ago
@genie0390 the debt is there because govt borrows from banks. if govt created it's own money it would have zero debt. e.g. abraham lincoln's greenbacks; greenbacks won the civil war; non debt based fiat currency

The supercommitee was always going to fail.
