@huntermanone I got mine from Landwarrior Airsoft on one of the few occasions they appeared. They were so rare that on the odd occasion they appear, they sell out in days.
@airsoftbryan This gun is so not Lipo ready you wouldn't believe it. An 11.1v lipo puts a great strain on any gun, running them at outrageous speed, and if there's any weakness in the gearbox or motor then this will find it. If your SA-80 gearbox isn't upgraded already, chances are it's going to go sooner rather than later if you run the 11.1v It will be great fun while it lasts though.
@airsoftbryan upgrade the gearbox and buy a real steal a2 hand guard, then you will be able to run a 7.4 lipo , this will increase ur rof and the single shot issue which is common with the r85.
@InfantryChans91 - I haven't seen one yet, there's a couple of guys with tweaked AA ones like this and a couple of Star ones, including an LSW, but no G&G A2s yet. It would be great if someone makes a good one right out the box.
@axeman3d I saw a review of one on here however it was by a group of kids so im a bit warey about it. That would be ideal as having used the L85 in the infantry its a weapon im happy with (not the same but its a comfort) Good review though as always, I'll have to make do with my common as muck clear M4 for now!
Yes and no. It looks great and the exterior is well built and sturdy. Unfortunately the interior parts are crap and you need to whip them out and replace them for it to be reliable and accurate. Even then the single shot is iffy, ut that's true of every bullpup I tried.
i managed to fit two mini battery packs in one in each side of the stock n when i recharge them i just open the top if the grip and leave it all in the gun also i found with putting two batteries in there it dosnt claytter about when running :)
I toyed with the idea of smaller Li-Po batteries to give me a speed boost as well, but I dont know if the internals would be up to the task. I use velcro tape on my batteries and guns so that they dont move about anyway. You need it with some guns, saves you growing a third arm for changing them.
wait, what brand of mid-caps did you recommend, u got a hard accent and its a little tough to understand for me so if you could type it out that would help thanks!
I cant find the manufacturer, but the mags are H&K style ones with full military/law enforcement markings on them. I use mainly midcaps, but the same style hicaps also fit well. Dboys brand midcaps do NOT fit well at all, they hang slightly too low to feed correctly. The mag that comes with the gun is very tight and not easy to use at all.
Got my about 6 months ago. Shot out my piston and change to G&P SR25 piston and shave the 2nd tooth off. No more stripped piston. Accuracy still need worked on. Will likely get 6.03 precision barrel for it. Oh disable my blowback.
Yeah, mines needed the same repairs, now it works fine. I also did the barrel, which has improved the accuracy no end. As standard the rifle is fairly unreliable and inaccurate, the upgrades are pretty much essential.
Yeah, Star also make on too, but both are way more expensive than this one. From what I've heard all the models suffer from the same problems as this one with the trigger being a bit odd. Then again, the real thing is the same, it's one drawback of the bullpup design.
Great review mate, and where did you get it from because it looks really good. Also with christmas and all my brother is looking for a rifle to BB with what would you rekimend.
Get the Classic Army M15-A4 (value pack)with full stock. It's cheap, reliable, lightweight, shoots well and can take a big battery. M4s are so common you can get masses of custom bits and borrow mags from anyone on a site, A good battery will last for days, not hours like small batteries in handgrips. Our team has 2 of these and they're still going strong after 20 months. It's also cheap, so no loss if your bro doesn't like playing Airsoft.
We always think the grass is greener on the other side, eh? What part of the US are you from? You guys have enough plenty of different accents to go around.
Well I live in upstate New York, bout ~60 miles from the city. There are really only two main accents, a southern accent and a normal accent (I say normal since I'm from the north, but I don't know if they call if a northern accent) There are accents like "New Yorker" but even in the heart of the city, it is not as common as most people think.
great review, i personally like both bullpup and standard rifles, i've got a classic army aug and i'm in love with the ergonomics and accuracy. at the same time, i am a big fan of the scar and g36 series it's really a mixed bag
I've had several G36's (C and K), it's one of my favourite guns. The G36C in Call of Duty is still my weapon of choice. The SCARs are growing on me too, but are a bit expensive for my liking right now. I'd also love a Tavor, but will wait until a more reliable and slightly cheaper one appears.
They have their difficulties, but you cant beat the big barrel in a small package. It's the same size as my CQB M4, but with a barrel almost twice as long. There's a lot of armies switching to them now for just that reason.
Ive heard countries in Europe are (or have) switching to them, I'm not saying they are horrible or anything of the sort, just not the right kind of weapon for me, i hope your r85 doesn't cause too much problem for you.
It means I cant do fast mag changes is all. Half of europe uses bullpups now, along with Australia, Singapore, China and the pacific rim nations. Most sniper rifles are switching to it as well, since it makes a helluva difference to how heavy and long they are. I had a Barret M82 here the other day, it's ridiculous! No wonder they replaced it with a bullpup.
if it's a new one, remember and clean out the barrel, they come full of dust and crap. Mines is now upgraded and with a 9.6v battery, shoots a treat now.
great vid matey, thanks, btw, what mag did you reccomend, was it Hk? I didn't catch it, sorry!! i'm getting a 2 tone version of this gun, gonna be awesome!!
Do a quick Google and you'll find a few, places like Action Hobbies, Phoenix Supplies and Tactical Airsoft UK all do this version of the SA-80. You could just as easily order from Land Warrior Airsoft or Airsoft World here in Gods own country, since you'll need to be a recognised member of an airsoft site or UKARA certified to buy from anywhere legit.
Depends on the range and what you wear. Close up it stings like hell, over 30 meters and you might not notice it. Most people wear thick gloves and outdoor clothes, and many wear webbing and vests for carrying ammo, etc, which provide some protection. CQB in buildings is the most dangerous, as you might get shot almost point blank. You could lose a tooth or get shot through the cheek at that range, so face protection is advised. Safety glasses are ALWAYS worn at all times.
Just so that everyone knows, the R85 appears to have stripped a gear while playing at a CQB game yesterday in a disused shopping mall. That's after a 24-hour charity game and the game yesterday, so not wonderful.
However, it has been in bits at the local dealers as I wanted to get the upgraded barrel and hop in it, so it may be something not put together correctly in the rush to get it back to me. I shouldn't have rushed them I think. Might get the piston done now too.
awesome review... couple questions if you dont mind me askin... what is the overall lenght of the gun? lenght from grip to back of the gun? lenght from grip to front of the hand guard? height/depth of the grip? how does it disasemble?
the R85 is 780mm long according to the specs, I'll measure it up and let you know the dimensions later tonight. It's almost the same length as my M4-CQB, so it's not a hugely long weapon, despite having a long barrel. I'm 6'2" and find some guns too short between grip and buttplate, but this is real comfy.
Disassembly is relatively easy, there's a pin you knock out at the back end near the butt plate.
Gimme a break, Scott, you're looking at take-10, recorded at 1:30am in the morning. This video nonsense is much harder than it looks. I did have to fix the handguard straight out the box, that was all me. :)
It's technically a limit of 1 joule of energy in the UK, which equates to between 330 and 350 fps in most guns shooting .20 BBs. Most sites limit auto weapons to less than 350, semi autos to 450 and snipers to 500fps (with engagement range limitations).

I take it thats a saddle type battery since theres not a lot of space for a large type?

The biggest I've got in it is a 9.6v medium battery, there's no danger of getting a large in because of the design of the front sight post.
