I'm from Chicago and usually Chicago crowds are very good (I've been all over the country) even despite that inherent midwest uptightness that pervades this city. However, the lamest crowd I've ever seen was two nights in a row seeing the Whigs play on the 1965 tour. They were killing it. That's when they had that absolutely killer drummer and piano player with them (this may be from the same tour, same band regardless). The crowd were a bunch of stiffs. They gave nothing back to the band.

Yeah, I agree with you. If you think about it, the Whigs' biggest mistake was waiting too long to release a follow up to Gentlemen, and considering the social concious of the mid to late 90's it doesn't come as a surprise that most critics were put off by the dark themes on Black Love. Regardless, the Whigs were on FIRE during the Black Love tour, so much so that I actually wondered if Dulli did sell his soul to the devil. Anyway, keep the faith, and don't forget the alcohol.
