My first grade teacher ostracized me at the blackboard and told me to put the chalk in my right hand and that I wasn't a lefty. Ha....I'm 49, and STILL a lefty and proud of it!!!! Hey...and like @bobcat395...a ginger too!!! Go US!!!!
When I was in high school in my country, there was a teacher who saw me writing with my left hand (I'm a lefty, of course) and he told me: "Let me teach you how to write with your right hand". and I said: " No one told me such a thing at my other school, I can't write with my right hand" after I said that, the teacher never talk that issue with me.
I think people are stupid for punishing left-handed just because it looks different from the so-called normal right-handed people. If the left hand is a person's dominant hand to use things,then let them use it. Luckily for a left-handed like myself didn't have any punishments for that reason.

When I was in Kindergarten, my teacher put a pencil in the middle of everyones desk, and told us to pick them up. Only 2 kids (out of 32) picked up the pencil with their left hand.
Well let me tell you a few facts I myself have researched. I have been researching for a very long time now, and I have sought knowledge from all my left-handed, right-handed and ambidextrous friends (by the way I am already ambidextrous -_-). And it's true at one stage your brain will fight for dominance. There's left and right, it's either one or the other. Trust me. You're born for one side. I mean, you can use one hand, but it's not how you were created.
@1DPIKI You have to be more right-handed than left-handed, or more left-handed than right handed. You can have equal ability, but there's always one more you use than the other (natural preference). Pay attention to which hands you use all the time you're awake. If you just right with your left but your left is too weak for anything else, that wouldn't make a really good lefty. Remember your handedness is supposed to be genetic.
You can only be a true lefty/righty if you're born like it.

Back when I was fixing to take the road test for my driver's license, I had to sign something that the cop/instructor handed me. He gave me the pen in my right hand, but I took it with my left hand...he asked what was wrong with my right hand and I told him that I was left handed and had always been. He didn't like that, and failed me in the road test for that...

The same thing happened to me, but unfortunately it destroyed my confidence. It took about twenty years to regain my confidence. I can now do mirror writing as a consequence of the brain being retrained!

I am left handed. My brain functions different from right handed people. i can mirror write perfectly, I actually Write my Signature backwards due to the fact the it's much easier that way. I also have a more artistic mind, somewhat abstract and Surreal. I am glad to be who I am.

When I first went to school my teacher forced me to use my right hand and so for many years I was a right handed person. Once, when I was 13 years old I fracture a finger on my right hand and because of that I decided to give a try using my left one, I was so surprised to see that I could straight away write the same as my right hand. It's amazing being able to write with both hands but still I can't forgive the teacher that forced me to change.

I too had problems with being left handed at my school and was teased for writing at a slant. To this day, people still ask me why I write sideways and I proudly reply: "Because I am left handed!"
it's so silly how people were like that back then, my grandma's brother was forced to be right-handed, when my dad was in school he actually got teased for being left-handed, and even nowadays I get people attemting to make fun of me for being a lefty.

i am right handed and somehow wish i am left handed. i've been practising for some time now. i already know how to brush my teeth, bathe and use chopsticks with my left hand and i feel proud of it. i want to become ambidextrous one day, and i'm sure that day won't be too far away. you lefties should be proud about yourself. i will be one of you, some day.
i think its great that you want to become ambidexterous, but you should be proud about yourself whether you are left handed or not. Don't feel that left handed people are more special than you by virtue of their handedness.
i wanna be ambidextrous not because lefties are special, altho i do consider them unique, which is one of the reasons. but also think of it, it'll be so much easier to do things equally well with both your hands. and also i've heard that using your left hands stimulates your right brain.... cool, huh?

It used to be hard being left-handed. My grandmother had her left hand tied during elementary school so she learned to write right-handed and does everything else left-handed.

I'm a lefty and HAPPY for it. I'm not proud because I had no control over being left handed and pride should be reserved for actual accomplishments, not matters of birth.

I hate people who discriminate lefties. They're just jealous. Left handed people are actually smarter than right handed people because the left side of your brain controls your knowledge and stuff.

When I first went to school my teacher forced me to use my right hand and so for many years I was a right handed person. Once, when I was 13 years old I fracture a finger on my right hand and because of that I decided to give a try using my left one, I was so surprised to see that I could straight away write the same as my right hand. It's amazing being able to write with both hands but still I can't forgive the teacher that forced me to change.

It was nice to hear your story . I'm 49 and when I was a kid in infant school (I think you call it kindergarten ), forgive me if I'm wrong I'm English , some teachers would try to make you use our right hand, happily they did not succeed and I enjoy drawing , painting and music , all with my left hand .

Dude! we've been running the world for a while now, right handers just don't know it yet hehe, we're out numbered 10 to 1 and yet left handers are present in a lot positions of power, sometimes even out number right handers there, take a look at the presidents of the us, a lot of them are left handed, the best ones i must say hehe, 4 out 5 of the last us presidents have been left handed, only the last bush wasn't, thank god for that

This happened to my mom..but she stayed a righty. I'm a lefty and proud of it =] No one ever forced me to switch..I dont write "hooked" and I have very neat handwriting, and am a very good artist. I don't understand why people discriminate against lefties..they're just jealous :p

Wow! Loved your story! I'm left-handed too, and when I was a kid people would tell me that left-handed people were dumb and that they are going to hell and burn. Of course, I looked at them like they had some mental problems and didn't believe it. Unfortunately, there are ignorant people who still believe that.

I can relate to that. I started school in the mid seventies in South Africa and was smacked on the hand every time I tried to right with my left.
Because of that, these days I write with my right hand but do everything else like throwing a ball and playing guitar with my left hand.
I too developed into a rebel as a result :)

there is this one time, in my biology lecture. my lecturer told the left handed people to raise their hands and he said " oh God..there's 5 of you! you guys are freaks!". the 5 of us were shocked,then one of us said to him "the way see it, you're the one who's a freak, sir. i don't think you want to be fired for discriminating others". I too had problems with being left handed at my school and was teased for writing at a slant. To this day, people still ask me why I write sideways and I proudly reply: "Because I am left handed!"

it's so silly how people were like that back then, my grandma's brother was forced to be right-handed, when my dad was in school he actually got teased for being left-handed, and even nowadays I get people attemting to make fun of me for being a lefty.

there are crazy teachers that want you to write with your right hand.mine did whatever she could to stop writing with my left hand but i was stronger than her.Only the old ladies from the countryside make a big thing about left handed persons.I guess they don't have anything to do but criticizing others. in my country there are not such things like scissors or pencils for left handed people but i can manage perfectly.
i am proud to be left handed and so the right handed persons should be.

i am right handed and somehow wish i am left handed. i've been practising for some time now. i already know how to brush my teeth, bathe and use chopsticks with my left hand and i feel proud of it. i want to become ambidextrous one day, and i'm sure that day won't be too far away. you lefties should be proud about yourself. i will be one of you, some day.

i think its great that you want to become ambidexterous, but you should be proud about yourself whether you are left handed or not. Don't feel that left handed people are more special than you by virtue of their handedness.

i wanna be ambidextrous not because lefties are special, altho i do consider them unique, which is one of the reasons. but also think of it, it'll be so much easier to do things equally well with both your hands. and also i've heard that using your left hands stimulates your right brain.... cool, huh?

Just don't overdo it, if you try too hard you can get problems like the guy in the video (stuttering, etc) because going against your natural handedness confuses your brain.

Are you a physicist?
We all use our whole brain....just not to its fullest potential. Right handed people use both hemispheres of their brain.
The left hemisphere controls Language, Math, and Logic.(amongst others)
The Right controls Spatial, Visual Imagery, Music, and Facial recognition.(amongst others)
You can't flat out say that right-handers use one portion of their brain. If you use your left hand, that makes you biased.

It used to be hard being left-handed. My grandmother had her left hand tied during elementary school so she learned to write right-handed and does everything else left-handed.
