I agree with the majority on this one. Although I love Del, his version pales in comparison to the King. This is the first Elvis record I remember hearing over the radio when it was new. They played it over and over again, every morning, just when we were getting up: also, Return to Sender, which came out about the same time. I don't recall , now, which came first. Maybe some one out there can help me on this.

I have nothing against Del Shannon and I actually feel sorry for the poor guy and what he went through during the end of his life....But girl, what is wrong with you? What is wrong with you young girls today? If you truly had good taste in music, you would know that Elvis CLEARLY had the better version out the two!!....I like many of EP's songs, but "Marie" might just possibly be my favorite out of all of them...

@renc2002 i guess to each his own. im just a huge del shannon fan. it takes me back to being little just haven a good time with my parents. i dont know about other "young girls" today but my taste in music is very wide, from eddie arnold to ozzy to tegan and sara and many many others.

@renc2002 Hey I even dislike most Elvis' songs but you are so right about this being Elvis' greatest song .. also good are Kentucky Rain, Devil in Disguise, In the Ghetto but I really just don't like Elvis' material or what he does with it but sure his performances are charismatic and he could move. But Del Shannon Wrote most of his hits and songs like Little Town Flirt and Runaway and I Go To Pieces are better than anything Elvis/ just sayin'

Usually I like the original versions of songs better than remakes, but the version Elvis did was superb. This is a good version too, but I like what Elvis did with it just a bit more.

Actually this is really bad dude. If you like this best, you are deaf in my opinion. This is Elvis's song and he is more upbeat and jumpy and sounds ten times better. That is why he went on to sell millions and Del Shannon is performing nowhere currently. This is terrible. He didn't even have great hits after Runaway and I love the original Runaway, but Elvis did that good too.

Del Shannon is a good singer and his original of Runaway is better than Elvis' cover of the song, but in that same way Elvis' original of "His Latest Flame" is much better than Del´s cover version
