  • he is good, but LENNON IS GREAT

  • thanks for posting this

  • this is one of my all time favorite songs.

  • nice gitter sound from Dave D.

  • who the f*&^&^% has given 2 negative ones?

  • Where I am from, Ray Davies is always spoken of when revisiting the "60s" and "70s".

He was quite a stage actor. Sort of an off-beat fey approach. Ray is quite unique in his view of the world. Laughs at it a lot. I saw them 13 times back then because they were so entertaining. We would leave singing the tunes for days.

  • Oh yeah, he is topshelf among British songwriters. Smart guy, fine minds appreciate each other..

  • @Rankinbacca So true... Ray Davies and Pete Townshend are the top Brit Rock songwriters followed by Lennon & McCartney whose level of productivity and quirkiness often overshadow Ray, Pete, and Jagger Richards. As live bands go.. I guess the Yardbirds and Pretty Things would be in there behind the Who and then the Stones with the Beatles being indifferent to their live act though they were the best at making records. Kinks would peak 15 years later as a live band!

  • If you are going to pay Ray a compliment, at least spell his name correctly.

  • An old Oldies fan, I nevertheless became fascinated by the Kinks as they grew into a serious contender for top English groups. Their commentary on the events of the times, present and past, was razor sharp and cut deep. Listen to "Give the people what they want". "Look Ma! There goes a piece of the Presidents brain"! They were never a great sounding crew. The lyrics were what set them apart during the Ho- Hum years.

  • @greasegun49 I'd say Ray is tops.. he has such a mature sensibility.. he is as much a sentimental music hall ham as Paul McCartney and yet he has a sad biting mature perspective that McCartney never pursued lyrically. I'd say the same about Pete Townshend who is perhaps more of a moralist.

  • The crowd seems to want to ho-hum this classic.

  • @gfm2011 as this reveals the beatles were a better live band but don't get me wrong i dig the kinks. i saw them in college in cleveland. they played for maybe..maybe 45 minutes..okaaaaay, ray..i hope we passed the audition?

  • Such good sarcasm.. so well portrayed.. yet so simple.. kinks you are the best....!!!!!

  • omg this fucking sucks

  • @TheMetalGuy852 LMFAO! IKR...live shit usually doesnt sound as good as recoreded

  • @confusedkid6 if the band is good the live version sonds BETTER!!

  • @DasHesslon no it doesnt.

  • @TheMetalGuy852 trying to fuck with us?..... sorry we are Kink's Fans not Bieber's Whores.

  • @TheMetalGuy852 you never going to be A Well Respected Man.

  • omg this is so cool>.<

  • lol at ray's facial expression at 1:03

  • The Kinks always had a bad rep for some reason, I think it is for the punk connection. not only is Ray Davies a musical genius but should be thought of as "a well respected man about town", He many "pop stars" can say they were shot chasing a purse-snatcher.

  • Love the ties and shirts and some of the girls dancing lol..totally cool

  • Great video truly amazing quality. I love this song

  • about the self-satisfied bowler hat brigade. The only thing that has changed is that they don't wear those hats these days. The air of entitlement is still very much there though. Great song

  • "His man sweat smells the best" has to be in the top 10 lyrics in history.

  • I love Ray Davis but I cant agree with that comment. He is a great song writer but not in the company of Lennon and McCartney. He is a great song writer but those guys are genious. There is a difference.

  • @samalo1995 agreed!

  • @samalo1995 He's just as much of a genius as Lennon and McCartney, the way he expresses the social climate in England at the time is on par with the surrealisms of the Beatles.

  • Eso si era musica de verdad no las mamadas de ahora

  • @tpaladino

This basically outlines how boring it is to be a middle class worker, and to be civil. hahahahahahaha

  • Notice how everyone in the audience is wearing a suit and tie? Yeah. It's called civility, and we're losing it.

  • @tpaladino also notice the all white audience--i think the things we have gained in this time are far more significant and valuable than the pretentious appearance that we have lost

  • merci très bon l'ambiance des sixties en plus, on y est !

  • ugh, the audience is too stupid for the genius of the Kinks.

  • look how these people are dancing! true rock gig :D

  • Social commentary with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

  • Wonderful!!!

  • 1:50 oh my haha

  • so many ppl standing still........

  • @Arasurgamer , no mosh pits, people actually listening to the music!

  • haha turtlenecks ftw

  • HE INDEED IS A WELL RESPECTED MAN !

  • Awesome

  • how old am I? Love this song...

  • you can notice how young people couldn´t dig these words by those times...Ray is a genious!!!!!!!!!!

  • ***** respected, and a tad brainwashed too

  • Said it on other Kinks videos, but I will say it here. Ray Davies is the true Poet Laureate of Britain (and the world for that matter)

  • Here are a couple brits who aren't embarrassed easily.

  • @stratkiller86 why would they be embarrassed?

  • @SmackThatKittyMan its a Monty Python reference lol. search their "Are you embarrassed easily" skit on here

  • @stratkiller86 sorry, thought you were dissin' old ray! lol

  • Best in 60...Super style(real New Wave!!!))

  • This was the first Kinks song that I recognized as mocking the board-up-the-arse Brit world.

  • he adores the girl next door and hes dying to get at her

    poetry

  • They are all that is great about british song writing ! Ray Davis is should be spoken about in the same breath as lennon, jagger et al. .. . . . .

  • @richio80 i couldnt think of a better word choice myself

  • @richio80 Davies

  • @richio80 Replace Jagger with Townsend and you are correct. Ray has been seriously overlooked and in many cases ripped off without due credit. What a great musician.

  • True Genius
