  • One of those parties that got a little out of hand just to feel a bit silly in the morning

  • If anyone says movies were better in the "good old days" and complain about sex and violence...I'll show them this!

  • the fat bald man is cool banarnas but people have sex in the big movie

  • Watching this with Tim Hecker in the backround. THIS WAS NOT SMART OH GOD HELP ME.

  • "Rosetta West - Low"

  • People had to kiss Satan's ass!? Fuck that bastard, I'd pick him the pitchfork if it came to that!

  • @RiverOfGoodTime I dare you to kiss his ass.

  • @2PlayDead Right after you.

  • Lol ... o.o

  • To me, these images have always made me think of those old oil paintings from the dutch masters (or before, such as Heironimous Bosch) come to life. . .

  • everybody is going to hate me for this but, why dont they remake this film?

  • @jamirosmajicrocks HATE YOU! (no just kidding lol) Ummm you could not get me to see it for I know it would be CGI crapfest. I would not see it if it was a Foreign film either. Why? The simple fact...IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T FIX IT HAXAN is a true masterpiece and for TRUE HORROR film purest should be in everyone's coll.

  • @jamirosmajicrocks I don't think remaking it would be a bad idea. As long as the movie is not over imbellished with effects, and is not used as propoganda to bolster or bash either Christianity or Wicca.

  • its so inspiring.

  • lol he's churning butter

  • This is as creepy as any of the horror movies I've seen. Sorry kikthatcan these are the kind of fantasies that caused people to murder their neighbors. I'm sure you've heard of the Salem Witch Hunts? Scores of women were executed; burned at the stake, drowned, mutilated etc Don't knock this stuff as there are some disturbed maniacs out there who still believe this kind of weirdness. It is not ridiculous.

All this video needs is some sort of soundtrack like the Goblins. It might impress you more.

  • This is ridiculous

  • synch this with Carl Orff's "O Fortuna" and we've got somthing

  • church makes me violent, now on facebook

  • I've kissed the devils arse and it smelled like a digested Happy Meal !

  • WTF ?o.O ...

  • 634devil; thanks for that, it's good to see that not everyone out is a snob and elitist.

  • is this amovie?

  • @dillanxXxmcr Yes!

  • TheRealLordRama; Why do the Classical music buffs have to be such elitists and snobs? is not Opera the Italian National music and enjoyed by ALL? Were not Shakespear's plays performed for the masses-ie; the Working Class? And before you deride me as ignorant and uneducated, I should point out that I have a 2.1 BA Honours Degree in Combined Studies which includes such subjects as Anthroplology, Pollitics, Creative Writing and Film Studies. Why regard me as inferior because of my musical tastes?

  • @eibon81 Don't let them bother you, plenty of metal music is incredibly technical. In general I've found metal fans (especially those into the more extreme forms) to be among the most knowledgeable fans and in general among the more intelligent out there, not that this means that they are superior humans. As you've suggested they are trying to prove self superiority over you because of the music they listen to, and in general being quite dickish if I do say so.

  • This is certainly very different than anything i've seen.... the silence combined with the costumes, imagery and direction is startling but somewhat interesting.....

I don't really know what to make of this...

  • Vesters1; Why is my taste in music considered ignorant-does that not presume that I am in fact some form of cretin or imbecile? Have you actually heared any of the bands I have mentioned? "Into the Coven" by MERCYFUL FATE has a very gentle/classical guitar intro and some of the guitar work on their second album "Don't Break the Oath" sounds very much like a hapsichord. In addition, RITCHIE BLACKMORE cites Johan Sebastian Strauss as his main influence on the first RAINBOW album!

  • @eibon81 The fact that a band cites the influence of a 'classical' composer doesn't put their work on that composers' level. Besides, Johann Strauss II is hardly a major composer. If they'd composed something on the level of Mahler or Schoenberg I would be impressed, but I doubt you've heard of them. I don't know why I'm talking to someone who sincerely thinks that metal is "a modern form of the classical/baroque style of music." Not Christian, by the way, before you start slagging off on that.

  • @TheRealLordRama You're seem like a real asshole, man. A good bit of Heavy Metal, while mostly derived from Delta Blues and Psychedelic, actually does take alot from Classical, particularly Baroque composers. Bach, Vivaldi, and Pachelbel are all big names among lots of heavy metal guitarists. Not that I'm a huge fan of that type of metal, I prefer bluesier stuff, but please don't call people idiots for arguing a point which is mostly true.

  • @TheRealLordRama Why do the Classical music buffs have to be such elitists and snobs? is not Opera the Italian National music and enjoyed by ALL? Were not Shakespear's plays performed for the masses-ie; the Working Class? And before you deride me as ignorant and uneducated, I should point out that I have a 2.1 BA Honours Degree in Combined Studies which includes such subjects as Anthroplology, Pollitics, Creative Writing and Film Studies. Why regard me as inferior because of my musical tastes?

  • can people please stop ruining this piece of art with talk of all religions? this is really something to observe, this is not pro anything other than just creating a viewpoint

  • Their eating Betsy Wetsy.. yum.... plastic baby dolls

  • All these people slagging off Metal...Metal is a modern form of the classical/baroque style of music. I would'nt personally recomend Death/Black Metal (not really my chalice of semen) but Melodic Old-School Metal/Rock with an Occult or Witchy theme...MERCYFUL FATE, THE DEVIL'S BLOOD, BLOOD CEREMONY or GHOST would do very nicely for HAXAN!

  • @eibon81 that is the most ignorant thing i've ever heard - baroque music has absolutely nothing to do with metal. Also it would be a tasteless mix.

  • All those negative comments from so-called Christians....whatever happened to "Judge not others, lest ye be judged yourself"? Besides which-Jesus was a Rabbi with wonderful humanitarian aims not the son of GOD.....the whole ethos has been twisted and perverted SO MUCH over the last 2000 years- but I suppose when authorities get their hands on a somewhat unconventional ideology they will use it for their own ends in order to control people and persecute those who do not share the same views.

  • With regards to all these Religous people getting on their high horse....I practise Witchcraft and am certainly NOT Evil....in fact, many people who call themselves Christian have been very unkind and discriminatory towards me; because i'm different (I have Asperger Syndrome) and because of my sexuallity.....anyway, isn't putting Satan behind you and Jesus in front of you a kind of homosexual threesome? Mmmm...I hope they're using condoms and lube...

  • Satan's Grandmother-I didn't know he had a grandmother! Brilliant stuff nonetheless; scary, sexy sureal, sexy and hilarious. i especially liked the depiction of the "Osculum Obscenum"-kissing the Devil's arse.....people must've SHAT themselves when this came out in the 20's!

  • sexy....:)

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, this must have freaked the Hell out of people when this came out. You would never see something like this made today.

  • amazing.

Imagine what kind of raging fucking genius could come up with this in the 20s.

  • Adding your own music to this clip is good fun. I recommend Electric Wizard's Black Mass.

  • @0DethronedEmperor0 I can recommend Trentemøller - Häxan, or parts of Trentemøller - Chameleon.

  • What must this film done to its' audiences, back in 1922 ?..My God ! What a movie.....Thank you for the posting.

  • @gawagney Interestingly, people in 1922 were a lot more braodminded when it came to this subject than people in 2010, who are strangely more ignorant, fearful and superstitious than they used to be, thanks largely to the Religious Right. We have lost a lot of psychological freedom.

  • 2:58 "The food was made up of toads and unbaptized children" :P

    Yummy! lol

    WTF?! :P

  • People back in the days must have been freaking out from this. Hell, in 2010, I'm kinda freaking out from this!

  • Very creepy, great for Halloween ! Has this ever had a home release ?

  • this stuff is pretty hilarious if its pretty surprising stuff now think how people reacted to it back then hhmm i guess "artsy": people have been around for a while and they have some pretty big balls to have done this back then good upload

  • I could watch this while listening to Sunn.

  • At 3:36 the devil is turning butter LOL funny stuff

  • @MrMattmantheman-I wasn't aware that they gave mental patients access to computers.

  • all you satanist are fucked up you guys must be smoking somthing, satan will destroy you look to GOD and he will save you and forgive your sins hhe will protect you from evil and will destroy evil in you do you want to be a slave i dont thats why i turned to god he protects me from satain and his demonds

  • @MrMattmantheman do you realize how you sound? you're just as deluded as them

  • @MrMattmantheman

I certainly wouldn't want to find myself with satin and diamonds. What a predicament.

  • @MrMattmantheman I am God, and I am Satan. I have committed my sins, and I have been forgiven.

You have your beliefs, and you are entitled to them. But it is not your place, to tell others what to believe. Why should we be a slave to your God when we can have our own?

  • @MrMattmantheman demonds? do those have anything to do with almonds? because I like those...

  • Satan has a grandmother?

  • @myhoneyjudah

yeah that part always makes me laugh...

  • Electric wizard works well with this.

  • none of it is true

  • FUKPIG!!!

  • One of the greatest films ever, if you ask me!

  • woowww haxaaan

  • i love this fucking movie hahahaha

  • thanks for posting

  • esto si es pelicula nada de las porkerias que quieren vender ahora como peliculas de terror!!

  • is the devil whackin it at 3:38??

  • @mookalooka

no, he's churning something, but he's getting a bit into it..

  • This is some scary Nosferatu shit.

  • well that's just wrong. haha what metal have you heard? twisted sister ??

  • 3:36 Demon~LoL!!! For the love of sweet Swedes... wtf? LoL...

  • Great. Every Scenes are Eycatcher. Very Impressive.

  • @CaronteEmpire

This is true for mainstream metal bands, but you'd be surprised about how seriously true underground black metal bands take occultism.

  • Great imagery but also disturbing. This is some nightmare shyt.

  • 3:46 What a lovely smile :)

  • Just seen the full movie. Very creepy for being made in 1922. Very well done! I'd recommend seeing it at least once

  • crowley tv...strange but a bit wrong

  • holy crap....i just stumbled across this...this is amazing....looks so pro, and its so old....the production quality looks so great compared to modern films....this should have a death metal song played with it lol....fuck, i'm gonna have to go get some silent B/W horror films to watch....and maybe i'll write evil death metal scores for them!....siiiiiiiiiickkkkk

  • Uh yeah let's ruin the films with trashy death metal screaming.

  • shut up

  • faggot

  • @kylmetalmaster Lol your stupidity is amusing.

  • your right, satanic black metal would be more appropriate

  • @lordnoxeroth The only type of music that belongs in any silent film is an instrumental score. The creators of the movie would be appalled morons like you want to destroy it with metal music. Yeahhh that would really improve on the film with trashy rarw rawr screaming/gutteral sounds and grunts.

  • I am guessing you have never heard the majestic beauty of symphonic black metal. try Emperor-I am the black wizards.

  • @lordnoxeroth Uh yeah and you obviously do not understand the majestic beauty of silent films. If you did you would not be saying to play metal as the score. It's like saying to play country or pop music as the score. The only score in a silent film should be instrumental

  • I was just trying to prove that Black Metal is not "trashy" as you put it, It is pure satanic dark music. Possibly dark ambient would be appropriate for this. You cannot challenge me on that.

  • On it's own it's not trashy. However if you put metal as a score of a silent film it turns trashy. The film is silent and should have a score that accents the style of a silent picture. Metal is good on it's own although I dislike the screaming and grunting. But it has no business being a soundtrack for a silent horror film like Haxan, Nosferatu, or The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to name a few. It's just stupid to want to add head banging music as the score to a silent film.

  • Ill agree with that

  • @lordnoxeroth i am a fan of black metal, burzum mayhem and the likes, however i cant help but question the authenticity of some of the bands beleifs. i mean, it seems to me as if some of the members of some bm bands were just bullied geeks who found 'satan' and a guitar, and ended up paying for a cheap studio recording if you know what i mean. half of their lyrics are complete bullshit anyway. nothing to do with the occult, just pure i hate everything because im a geek

  • thats a interesting point of view about a movie like this?....

    No comment....

  • Fantasic imagery!

  • @wouldyoumindif

    Fantastic Imagery INDEED.

  • hahaha, that's so....strange. love it.

  • I'm trying to imagine what it must have been like for the people who shot this film the crew and actors, looks like they had a great time!

An updated remake by Quenten Tarantino would be fun!

  • 3:35 XD that dude is really churning the butter lol wonder if there is a hidden meaning?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHwow how entertaining how the Catholic church deplicted Witches and Witchcraft

  • This is the best movie about witchcraft I've ever seen.

  • Haxan has the best imagery of all silent horror movies.

  • @agoddamnsexfiend True, but you got to admit Metropolis had some stunning visuals aswell. Wayyy ahead of their time.

  • goes well with Black Sabbath-Fairies Wear Boots playing in the background

  • i love this film saw it on the criterion dvd

  • how? he died.dead.goon.etc.

  • Really oddball stuff! Quite impressive for it's time.

  • Hello! Did you extract this clip from the criterion collection dvd?

  • This is some really scary Nosferatu shit.

  • looks like a football gallery.........

  • I prefer Begotten

  • I wonder if the director meant to be funny. I was laughing at the part where they kiss the devil's ass.

  • Kissing the devil's ass (anus, actually) was considered an essential element of witchcraft in the middle ages. It seems completely ridiculous to us in the modern age, but back then the Catholic Church took it completely seriously.

I doubt he intended for it to be humorous, but rather that he wanted to present the full-blown and ugly picture of dark-age superstition; how bizarre and outlandish it was, and- more specifically- how it has no place in the modern age.

  • That may be the case, but it gives me a laugh or two.

  • Well the guy in the white robe was laughing :o

  • a classic, epic, silent masterpiece! thanks for posting this excerpt

  • 3:41 that's kinda wrong

  • Raised by christians. my views on sex are really warped. they always told me it was bad, so now i feel guilty whenever i do it.

  • He sure has alot of energy that little chap at 2:15 =)

  • WOW! Nice! @ 1:53

    the horse of the dead..

  • Oh shit that's really scary

  • Christians have sadistic kinky thoughts they love to share inappropriately, don't they? They are so sexually repressed they can't stop thinking about fucking demons.

  • Indeed! LOL

  • For a 1922 sweedish / danish film...

    looks pretty good...

    ;)

  • 0:51

theres no way in hell thats fake

    /sarcasm

  • is that guy jacking off at 3:37???

  • yes! he is!

  • he's "churning dirty butter." special sauce for McDonalds Big Mac

  • literally he's churning butter, but yes lol, that's what is implied

  • I've read about this and always wanted to see it

check out my new Witchcraft Art and Music video

  • Party like it"s 1999,er...1922!!

  • ...

  • damn, hahaha, this is really fucked up

  • Haxan or Häxan (in swedish) means witch

  • this is gr8

i was watchin it with a bit of black metal over it liek old satyricon , you should try it it works really well :P

  • Hi, I sow the movie, is really good. A jewel.

I recomended "Det sjunde inseglet" ("the seventh seal" in english, maybe?), of Ingmar Bergman.

Just a thing, could you change in your description, the surname? because in first place, you write Christiansen (this is wrong), and the real surname is CHRISTENSEN. The surnames are similar, but isn't the same...

  • whoa how could u keep an old vid..

    cool

  • Fantastic cinematography.

  • wild... but it needs Coil in the backround

  • He is jerking off? With some speed i must say.

  • lol

  • Spectacular film. A marvel of 1920s cinema.

  • Indeed, being in the 20's is far from surprising. The video shows the typical view that witches were given in medieval times. Let's not forget this was created for filming purposes and that the black mass merely brushes with such events. Let's also not forget how much the church is unforgiviving to the so called "black" rituals and calls them the rituals of the Adversary.

p.s. St Paul not only hung around with posh romans, he was a Roman citizen a posh thing to be back then, So history tells us.

  • People are shocked this was made in the 20's? I'm not. People forget their history. The 20's was a time of decadence and films were very experimental until they were later restrained by the generally conservative public.

  • Later restrained by the generally conservative public?

  • and this was made in the 20s. shocking!

  • kinda fucked up but none of the less a good movie

  • this movie looks sweet, i would watch it that was a sweet mask on the big demon guy it looked pretty good for somthing made in 1920

  • Hmmm. I didn't know that Satan had a "grandmother."

  • lol at the 3:35 mark

  • I'm suprised that the 1920's allowed naked ass

  • it does actualy look like hes masturbating at 3:35

  • "Häxan" is from Sweden, not Denmark.

  • It's actually Swedish/Danish. Benjamin Christensen was Danish..

  • I would be willing to bet that E. Elias Merhige was influenced by this particular Masterpiece.

  • yeah i think so too,and wow someone who knows Merhige :) nice ,i only know Begotten though ,but that was one sick movie ,if you can call it that way

    and this one aswel

  • to think this was made in 1922, thats fuking awsome yo!! its still creepy as hell.

  • I love this movie. I watched it in it's entirety once, and it had such an effect on me for some reason! I want to find it on dvd, does anyone know where i could find it?

  • Awesome!

  • hahahaha this is funny

  • 'The Devil' and 'Satan' and all that nonsense is from Chrisitanity. They basically have always (through the ages) referred to anything outside of it as 'Witchcraft' or 'Black Magic.' In reality, Christianity is no bloody better or worse. In fact worse - at least The Egyptians / Pagans / persians / Greeks had original religious ideas, not just a load of info that St.Paul nicked while he was out and about travelling with his posh roman mates..

  • The Jews believed that there was a Satan long before Christians and even your pagan religions usually had a chief malevolent entity. So stop making crap up.

Paul hung out with posh Romans? LOL You're a nut.

  • i was watching this with good doomy scary music and this film grabbed me by the nuts, very very haunting and terrifying,if you watch this stuff with suitable music ..mmmm than it's very scary ...to me at least

  • terrifying film

  • Wow, I've been waiting so long to have a look at this! Thanks for putting it in!!!

  • What a party ! Was this at Micheal Jackson's house ?

  • The sex is very important in all religions, I think in particular in Black Religions (like Wikka Witchcraft Satanism( modern or traditional)). And I don't know why but almost always is about sex. Ha

  • very interesting vid.

  • Don't ya just love how the xtians look for thing like this so they can call us sinners and tell us about jesus.

Better to rule in hell, than serve in heaven

  • go away freak of nature
