On it's own it's not trashy. However if you put metal as a score of a silent film it turns trashy. The film is silent and should have a score that accents the style of a silent picture. Metal is good on it's own although I dislike the screaming and grunting. But it has no business being a soundtrack for a silent horror film like Haxan, Nosferatu, or The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to name a few. On it's own it's not trashy. However if you put metal as a score of a silent film it turns trashy. The film is silent and should have a score that accents the style of a silent picture. Metal is good on it's own although I dislike the screaming and grunting. But it has no business being a soundtrack for a silent horror film like Haxan, Nosferatu, or The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to name a few. It's just stupid to want to add head banging music as the score to a silent film.

@lordnoxeroth i am a fan of black metal, burzum mayhem and the likes, however i cant help but question the authenticity of some of the bands beleifs. i mean, it seems to me as if some of the members of some bm bands were just bullied geeks who found 'satan' and a guitar, and ended up paying for a cheap studio recording if you know what i mean. half of their lyrics are complete bullshit anyway. nothing to do with the occult, just pure i hate everything because im a geek

Kissing the devil's ass (anus, actually) was considered an essential element of witchcraft in the middle ages. It seems completely ridiculous to us in the modern age, but back then the Catholic Church took it completely seriously.
I doubt he intended for it to be humorous, but rather that he wanted to present the full-blown and ugly picture of dark-age superstition; how bizarre and outlandish it was, and- more specifically- how it has no place in the modern age.

Indeed, being in the 20's is far from surprising. The video shows the typical view that witches were given in medieval times. Let's not forget this was created for filming purposes and that the black mass merely brushes with such events. Let's also not forget how much the church is unforgiviving to the so called "black" rituals and calls them the rituals of the Adversary.
p.s. St Paul not only hung around with posh romans, he was a Roman citizen a posh thing to be back then, So history tells us.

'The Devil' and 'Satan' and all that nonsense is from Chrisitanity. They basically have always (through the ages) referred to anything outside of it as 'Witchcraft' or 'Black Magic.' In reality, Christianity is no bloody better or worse. In fact worse - at least The Egyptians / Pagans / persians / Greeks had original religious ideas, not just a load of info that St.Paul nicked while he was out and about travelling with his posh roman mates..
