  • thank you mister Jarrett !

  • Another Berklee friend of mine!

  • Very Beautiful. Cry.

  • Simplesmente algo que em qualquer idioma não sem tem as palavras certas para descrever,

por esse motivo acho que tal descrição está em algum lugar depois do arco-íris, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

    Stefano Stefanon

  • ОТЛИЧНО!!!

  • THE BEST !!!!

  • Genius.

  • Transcendent. This recording should be sent into outer space to show any intelligent life out there what the human spirit is capable of.

  • A melhor interpretação desta lindíssima música. Bravo!

  • La musica di Jarrett è unica. E' un vero genio espressivo. Per me, assieme a Bollani, il miglior pianista vivente. Grazie per queste perle musicali, Ketih!

    ( ̄◇ ̄;)

  • @bazzatt1 Yawn.

  • @bazzatt1 Listen to Jacques Loussier Trio.

  • @bazzatt1 fuck you you maggot fucktard. it shows how amateur you are through your amateur and fallacious comments. I am a classical pianist and can rip though your most demanding classical piece but I have my utmost respect to all the jazz pianist n artists who continue to hone their crafts. I know what I'm saying coz as I'm typing this, I am soloing on Giant Steps and to tell you, nothing compares to improvising and having great flights of fancy and coming up with different interpretations.

  • @epickeys Have you ever listened to yourself talking? Though I wouldn't recommend it because of the filthy language, I do think you should let go of music for a while and concentrate on learning how to speak with a civil tongue in your head. Just a suggestion.

You might want to get down off your high horse in order to do so first.

  • @Sixalienasa pardon my french, do you know what you are talking about? all what you are saying are irrelevant. this is not a place for being prim and proper, are you the owner of youtube? if not, then shut your pie hole and mind your own business and stop talking when it has nothing to do with the video. obviously you are not a musician so you can't relate at all.

  • @bazzatt1 L. Armstrong said"There's only 2 types of music, good&bad". Rubinstein & Horowitz heard Art Tatum. They said "what he just did is impossible". Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, MJQ, Count Basie,Trane, Oscar Peterson, KJ to name a few appeal to a wide audience, far more sophisticated than U. The greatest music of the jazz era will be here 4 a long time. I know losers,Drug addicts drunks that listen to classical music. U & your Librarian need 2 get out more. U R a pompous ass, a Racist or both

  • @frody8pie well said :)

  • @george4mon Thank you. It's hard to believe that people like bazzatt1 (& the librarian) are out there. As long as there R people like U around, we'll make it. Keep in touch.

    Best wishes, F.

  • @bazzatt1 Ck UR facts. True jazz is alive & well. Interest in Jazz from the 30's 40's & 50's is being listened to by more people than ever. Obviously classical music is vital, sadly most orchestras R broke, few new classical recordings R made, & classical music is in less demand than ever. This is tragic. I read UR post again I don't think U & UR librarian should get out more. Just disappear. The world will be a better place. Do U fuck UR librarian, or is that 4 scum that listen to jazz?

  • @bazzatt1 Oh, BTW, the last time I heard KJ was at Carnegie Hall. He and his trio play in the top concert halls in the world. Run that by UR librarian. You both sound like real winners. BTW U might want to teach UR librarian the proper use of the English language. "LOOK AT THE PEOPLE WHO'S LISTENING TO JAZZ". ?? BTW how does UR librarian know who these "people" R. The 2 of U must have gone to those nasty places. SHAME ON U!!

  • @bazzatt1 Oh, just one more thing I thought you & UR librarian should know; for decades American Jazz artists have been treated like "Royalty" throughout Europe & Scandinavian countries. In fact many moved there to escape prejudice in their own country.

  • As usual - esence rendition of the song, pure cathedral drawn simple and lightweight... This connection of purity and big, untouchable Mr. Genius above us all is always amazing on Jarret's approach.

  • There are only 2 things I don't like about this video:

    1. The morons clapping at the beginning because they recognized the melody

    2. The dude that sneezes near the end

But Keith Jarrett's unfathomable artistry more than makes up for both.

  • @SaxMan439 Those morons as you call them are expressing their appreciation, in a free Country. If you gotta sneeze then you gotta sneeze, sad for those with little patience but part of life in the Big City.

  • @Sixalienasa In this case Silence is the only way to show appreciation!!

  • @rieske2000 Get down off your high horse Dude.

  • @SaxMan439 Yes, Keith is a big asshole with an unfathomless talent. People is just people, and if you do public concert you have to take in account this, unless you want to chose it one by one. This is the reason why I've never been to any of his concerts.

  • @benas68 have you ever met him? I'm guessing the answer is no. In that case, how do you know he is, in your words, an a-hole? Just curious.

  • @benas68 Ive heard from different keith jarrett videos that he was not the nicest of people, but Ive never heard of an actual example of this... do u have any?

  • Yes, human beings do clap when they are happy, and sneeze when they have cold. It's a concert, not a recording. This kind of attitude is what makes so many people still think that classical music (or even jazz in this case) is not for them. And please, don't say you were joking, because it's too obvious you weren't.

  • @AlphaScorpii86 lighten up buddy, learn not to take Youtube (or anyone's comments for that matter) too seriously. Merry Christmas.

  • @SaxMan439 I don't think It's because they recognized the melody...; but I agree, it's noisy...

  • Petrucciani has been the greatest.

  • I don't care about Keith's personal life or how he treats other people. All I care about is the music, and the music is the truth

  • I love his way to play watching above himself.

  • :)good song

  • Keith Jarrett - magical on the piano ... love his version >>> Beautiful!!! Thanks sooo much for sharing .... Happy !!!

  • Anyone know if there's a proper recording of this beautiful performance?

  • @puppydust A later version appeas as an encore on 'La Scala'.

  • Yeesh enough with all the pretentious waffle in these comments. Love Jarrett, hate snobbery.

  • This is just magic.

  • He can express music by only his own emotion .. Pure genius .. He is not a narcissist

  • 心が澄んでくる

  • why does he move like that??

  • @Phidaph Why not?

  • @Phidaph Because he wants us to think this is DEEP!! This is not even shallow! He's a fraud!

  • @GeoCoppens IMO you get it. KJ has carefully crafted a "sensitive genius" act. He is a good player in the trio setting. There is even BS in that. The true masters just played. (Check out Miles& Trane, Kind of Blue, 1959), they only needed to play. They didn't have to put on a BS side show, insult the audience (see KJ Umbria 07). IMO KJ is the most over rated player out there. I'm confident that in the history of jazz, he will be only a footnote. Maybe KJ tell us how great he is & then play!

  • @frody8pie Yes, indeed! The true masters did not need crafting an image of hypersensitive genius or anything like that. True masters of the piano are, to me, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Lennie Tristano, Richard Twardzik, Ronnie Ball and, nowadays, Billy Lester.

  • @GeoCoppens I'd add Bill Evans in there. These "fans" who have been duped by KJ should listen to "Thelonius Alone in San Francisco, & Bill Evans Sunday at The Village Vanguard & Waltz for Debby. IMO KJ hasn't come close to what these true masters did. KJ could start throwing veggies & eggs at the audience, then explain za rulz und regulationz. Buying a ticket (even if you cough) & clapping are OK at za right time! Stay home. It will be quiet, no one to disturb the infant "genius".

  • @frody8pie You guys are freaking crazy. Ignore all the weird contortions, KJ is a GIANT of the piano, & the standards trio is perhaps the best trio of its kind ever. You can like Monk for his writing & all his quirky sensibilities, but Monk in SF (or ANY solo Monk) isn't even in the same universe as what KJ does. Hear him play Monk's 'Round Midnight, solo, from Japan '87. Listen to all the beautiful & sophisticated harmonies. Then check out Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me, same concert. Amazing.

  • @fretbuzz59 I agree, KJ is a great player, and the trio w/ GP & JD is one of the best IMO however KJ has never really changed the world of music. To me he is masterful, but not a "Master". The movements and the insults to the audience, the "cough" routine, are again IMO BS. Did U see KJ Umbria 07? All an act. Why does a cough nearly cause a nervous breakdown? U like it, great enjoy the music. I think it is immature to call people who don't agree w/ U, "Freaking Crazy".

  • @frody8pie We can argue semantics. But there's little doubt that KJ is a master, influencing many major players. (Is it possible 2 B masterful but not a master? Also, he plays classical, which takes mastery of the instrument.) KJ may not be an innovator, like Monk, but he's definitely advanced the art of jazz pno, perhaps esp w/the trio. No doubt he's weird & pretentious. "Freaking nuts" was a figure of speech. I could have called them clueless for not separating his antics from his playing.

  • @Phidaph

Because he is so totally into what he is playing .... his whole body becomes part of it ....

I know that he can look weird ... (that's why I said in a previous comment "just close your eyes and listen")

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just close your eyes ... and listen .......

  • Hes the sungha jung of piano. Only 100 better :D

  • this is the most beautiful, powerful, and soulful rendition of Over The Rainbow that i have ever listened to. The one and only KJ concert I went to was back in the 80's in Osaka with my 1st girlfriend. I remember holding her hand very tightly when KJ was playing OTR. I will never forget that moment. Thank you & amen.

  • OMG - I love this - thx 4 sharing!!!

  • I have no desire to carry on an argument w/ you. I have known KJ for more than 25 years. I could give you his address and private phone #.I won't. I am quite sure I have been to more of his concerts than you. KJ is obviously a great artist. It would not be proper for me to say anything more about him personally. It is my feeling that he has carefully crafted an "act" to go w/ his playing .because he creates an "mystique" for gullible people like you . Enjoy the music! No more e-mails please.

  • Kieth Jarrett's a major influence in my playing. Perfection!

Check out some of my music @

    inspiredtruth.bandcamp.com/

  • It's beautiful music, but his histrionics are hard to watch....big turnoff.

  • Keith is one of my favorites....... I'm in awe, and I'm so jealous of his technique.

One day when I grow up, MAYBE I'll be able to play like him

  • I wanted to say I respect your opinion. Yes Scriabin is absolutly out of this world! But it's like trying to compare John Coltrane with Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band!! It doesn't work! Please be more positive and work with facts instead of opinions!

  • @frody8pie I can respect that. But keep your "criticism" for yourself and see how you can be a much better and positive influence around you.

  • @frody8pie

Yes, I know KJ is not the easiest person to deal with and that's him and nobodys business. I have seen him live and I have followed his path for the last 35 years, so I know what you mean. But you cannot just come out of the blue and post such a statement for an artist who has devoted all his life to bring you and all of us to a much deeper meaning of life.

  • @TCNHC KJ has devoted his life to KJ. He is a narcissist, he loves only himself. If you rely on KJ for a deeper meaning of life, I think you might want to seek some help! Enjoy the music. KJ is a great player. His act, and that's what it is, is pure BS. If you think KJ is worried about bringing you a deeper meaning of life, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. And believe me, I'm not coming "out of the blue".

  • so peaceful and effortless

  • KJ is an awesome player ( trio) thanks to Jack and Gary. But he's no "giant". He's never changed music. He has a good sound, but it really can't match the true giants. Young, Ellington, Monk, Trane, Lewis, Evans, Miles to name a few. His solo work is BS. Listen to Scriabin! . But if you like it... KJ developed a Sensitive Genius "act". Miles, Trane, Ellington etc. had a persona, & their music said it all. KJ is narcissist, he loves only KJ. When he said "I really love my audience" he lied!

  • @frody8pie

I don't know from were you are coming from (and I don't mean geographically) but obviously your statement about KJ is for the birds. Because if all the greats that you mentioned were alive they will at least laugh with your statement!!!

  • @TCNHC You are right, they would laugh. I have been fortunate to hear and see many of the true "Masters". None of them acted like KJ. Plus their playing was far more important. Have you seen KJ Umbria '07. Yes, they would laugh! KJ is a great player, so enjoy his music if you like it. As he said, he's doing you a favor to play it for you. Enjoy! KJ will be at most a footnote in jazz history.

  • @frody8pie Just BS, not worth to answer in detail

  • @FrancescoGuardi I agree, particularly by you. (see Umbria 07) I assume you are one of KJ's fans who pays good money for the "privilege to have HRH play for you. It's a good deal. You get some great music and the BS act that goes with it. Perfect for you! Enjoy the music. KJ is an incredible player. Just a notch below the "Masters"

  • @frody8pie LOL ! Obviously you're not able to see that it's one story KJ is truely a neurotic ass and it's another story he's a unique outstanding musician. If you would spend the money to hear him in concert and not only clips on youtube you couldt realize that it's really a sacrileg to disturb him playing. I think he deserves all what he needs.

If you want a mr.niceguy don't mess around with KJ

  • @frody8pie So is that why Miles Davis said he is the best piano player he ever played with?

  • @JROB1989" I've learned a lot from the way Bill Eveans plays the piano. He Plays the piano the way it should be played." "All my inspiration comes from Ahmad Jamal". Miles Davis. BY KJ's own admission he did nothing but "add energy" to the band. But to be fair to KJ, Miles had him play electric organ, an instrument that would not let him use his considerable talent. It would have been interesting to have KJ in the earlier band instead of Herbie. Enjoy the music! KJ's gig w/ Miles didn't hurt!

  • On chciałby być zdrowa a ci którzy go słuchają chcieli by tak grać ; )

  • Brilliant!

  • 57 people must think ke$ha has talent.

  • AWESOME... I never get tired of Mr.Keith..

  • I cryed the first time i listen to this F sus at 0:15, 0:16

    Then the fucking claps

  • perfetto~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • どれだけ、思いを込めて、表現できる人なのだろう?

  • Is there an exact transcription of this piece played here?

  • @katchum Google "somewhere over the rainbow keith jarrett sheets" And it's the first link.

  • @DiscoInTheNunnery I don't think that's the one. But I found the exact version on Youtube and I made a trascription of it. So I will play it myself and put a video on youtube for sure now.

  • does anyone happen to know where i can find an album for which this song is included in? thanks!

  • Kieth is the man. Ask all the other great piano players in the world who they want to be and they are all going to give you the same answer. Nobody has ever gone as deep as Kieth.

  • @paparock22 Im really wondering how many time should you listen to his pieces to learn the correct spelling of his name. :P

  • Kieth is the man.

  • 素晴らしいです。

  • i dont get why people like this so much. maybe i dont know who this guy is...

  • @Seany527 If only there was some way to find out .. but I guess we'll never know .. ;-)

  • @Seany527 To answer this question really requires understanding your knowledge of music and jazz. On a basic level, there is just the question of whether the music moves you. It sounds like it does not move you which is an absolutely fine answer. But for me the music touches me on many levels. First, I find a deep connection with the moment when I listen to Keith Jarrett. Second, I studied a little jazz and understand the concept of having a melody and a chord progression and then..

  • @Seany527 dynamically rearranging the chords and playing with the melody to come up with your own interpretation of the song. Keith Jarrett makes significant changes while keeping the melody going and coming up with melodic interpretations. All this is done in real-time. His interpretations are layered and have themes that repeat in complex ways. This creates a deep and moving experience for me.

  • @davidmjacobson glad it does something for you. it does nothing for me. Zzzzzzz

  • questo video è su Reset Italia

    con il titolo

28 giugno: dal 1969 l' Orgoglio di essere come ci pare

    GRAZIE !

    Doriana Goracci

  • Fantastisch

    greetings Friedhelm

  • i quite literally could not breath during most of this performance. his physical manifestation of his emotions show how far he pushes himself into his music. true genius. wow

  • did anyone notice the intent of refusal to use the sustain pedal in this piece, yet he sustains all needed notes simply by holding the note longer instead, using only the fingers? subtle mastery of precise execution, no other player in the world comes close to the genius of KEITH, this has been decided without argument by the best players in the world, and I agree. Thank you KEITH !

  • FANTASTIC performance!!!!!

55 must be DEAF (and blind)

  • Absolutely gorgeous rendition!!!

  • True :) The guy must have felt embarrassed!

  • FANTÁSTICO!!!!

  • Maravilhoso!!!

  • i'm speechless...:O

  • Insieme nel leto!

  • Music of LOVE. Amazing..

  • @DigaJndG I know right?

  • Why the hell do idiots need to clap when they recognize the song?

  • @kahlor I've had audiences applaud at the end of an A section (because that's where the title of the song occurred in the lyric) and it didn't bother me at all. Not only was I glad that they were happy about the song I chose to play, I was delighted to know that they actually KNEW the lyric all the way through and were able to tell the name of the song when I played the melody that corresponded to the title lyric. I think it's kinda cool.

  • @kahlor

  • @TheEitanSilver Who has he influenced? Do U know who Lester Young, Armstrong etc. influenced? The true "Masters" change music. As 4 mastery of the piano, listen to Art Tatum. What U don't realize is that as U said " his antics" R BS. U are naive enough to not realize this is part of an "act". Would U really compare KJ to Miles, 'Trane, Parker, Ellington, Young, Evans to name a few? KJ will be a footnote in jazz history. Enjoy KJ, if U like him, great. BTW I don't need your immature insults.

  • @frody8pie Why do so many people watch music videos of artists that are highly respected and leave negative comments? They are either trolls (i.e. nasty, miserable people who are trying to spoil the enjoyment of others) or they think that true fans will benefit from their superior insight . Neither of these motivations seems worthy. Keith Jarrett is one of the greatest artistis of our generation. If you don't agree, please don't feel the obligation to tell us.

  • i wasn't there and i just want to say that i enjoyed hearing the applause.

  • i personally enjoyed the applause.

  • This man simply becomes the song that he plays. I know of no other performer who is as engrossed and talented as he is when he plays. Keith Jarrett is one of a kind. Wow...

  • Stevie Wonder liked this video so much he accidently hit dislike 53 times but didnt know.

  • @koolanddagang12 Hahahahaha....

  • @koolanddagang12 not funny.

  • god created keith jarrett, and THEN the piano.

  • @CalebNihira ROFL awesome

  • @CalebNihira Hahahahahahaha <3

  • He´s Good (take an "o" off) on the piano! This is somewhere over and over...

  • This guy is good ...

  • I hate uncalled-for clapping, like at the beguining of this. It's so distracting and vulgar. Yes, we know, it's "somewhere over the rainbow". You don't need to clap just because you sudently realized that fact. Jeez.

  • is fantastic......

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW

  • @managerguy1...spot on...the melodic content and movement of his music is awesome.many thanks.

  • He's simply a God of piano.

  • why do people always have to clapp the hands, before something is over?

  • 51 people don't know what a rainbow is

  • @MrBesseling It's a bow made during the rain

  • there is a depth in every single note played, a incredible dynamic variety, a unique sweetness .. an idol of mine, a continuing source of inspiration

  • This is the "hymn" that my church will be playing on Easter Sunday!

  • 51 people forgot to turn on the sound

  • @storeusal I couldn't agree more!

  • I Can't Understand, How Could People Live Before Keith Jarrett..

  • @chxnde there is a difference between living and thriving!

  • There is a difference between living and thriving!

  • @tinheart0125

    agree :)

  • This man is in love with his music and so am I. He is connected to it and he feels it and makes me or should I say us, also feel it. Thank you for this masterful performance! How beautiful.. Thank you for posting.

  • Such great sensitivity, I hope I get to see him in a solo concert someday!

  • Keith Jarret, his artistry at the piano bears me 20 + years of repeated listens, only to leave one refreshed again by his souful ,spiritual intensity and vivacity. A truly inspirational pianist who explores the boundaries of spontaneous improvisation and extemporization
