No, Mr. Coyne, a Christian is a CHRISTian according to who? to CHRIST of course, not human dogma. A CHRISTian is filled with the Holy Spirit who gives us God's truth. Mr. Coyne, you are speaking in a way that clearly indicates that you are not guided by the Holy Spirit but rather by your fleshly intellect. God's truth can never be comprehended by our intellect- only through the Holy Spirit. The light created by God on the 1st day was not the light of the sun rather it was the light of God.
I (a simple minded person) do not dismiss God from Evolution. What I can not do is reconcile millions of years of death and disease (via evolution) with a good God who calls His creation "GOOD". Why use death to bring about a deathless perfect world, then call that process good. When Jesus finds his friends grieving over the loss of their brother HE WEEPS. he does not comfort them by endorsing death and disease as God's great creative good evolutionary tool. Jesus died to bring death to death.
Actually, officially and historically, the Catholic church is fundamentalist and does hold to a literal interpretation of Scripture -- to the point that they interpret the bread and wine in the Last Supper naratives to *literally* be the flesh and blood of Christ in the Eucharist. The official Cathecism says that the literal sense of Scripture is the primary sense. Moroever, the historic position toward Genesis is that it is factual history. It is a recent aberration.
@ytuseruber - recent aberration? you're 100% incorrect. st. augustine wrote 1700 years ago that we should not interpret certain books of the bible literally and proposed genesis as allegorical. origen was saying it even earlier. the rise in literalism in this sense came about as an effect of protestantism.
"All light comes from the sun and the stars." Supposition, based on naturalism that assumes all matter and energy originated from stars. Thus, his reasoning is circular. He defines light as all coming from sun and stars and then precludes the possibility of light coming from God.
Does he believe God couldn't make light by itself? Why does he call himself a Catholic?
Every contractor knows you put up a temporary power pole and temporary lights before you put in the permanent lights.
No my brothers Catholics your suppose to say there wrong in any religious beliefs that just making us like them take the advice and pass it on please don't fall in a trap
If the RC church doesn't let science get in the way of taking the Virgin Birth and Resurrection of Christ literally, why does it have a problem with taking the Genesis account of creation literally?
@quemacha Excellent point, however this video, though offering the popularized view of a group of somewhat heretical bishops and priests, is not offering the official teaching of the Magisterium of the Church. The Church holds that God created all things from nothing; God created all things directly; the Scripture is to be read primarily in its literal sense; the human person was directly created by God, body and soul. The Church has no official position regarding evolution. Period.
@ytuseruber actually even the pope says that the clash between religion and evolution is absurd as they can both coexist. his exact words were "This clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such"
you cant get more official than from the popes mouth. so do you think the catholic church and almost all scientists are making things up?
It should be noted that Galileo's equations weren't correct, and that he challenged the Roman Catholic faith, publicly. That is the reason why he was silenced. /// The Catholic Church's stance on evolution is that they have no stance. Human origins shouldn't even be an issue at all. But, if this theory is helping progress, it shouldn't be infringed upon. It should also be noted that heliocentrism and a spherical earth were once thought to be true, then flase, and, of course, now true, again.
I think the whole reason for creationist trying to prove evolution wrong is because if the bible is proved to not be taken literally there whole interpretation of christianity goes down the drain.
The only thing the Modern Scientific Theory of Evolution does is prove Adam & Eve never existed! That's all but that is enough as the RC church is based on Original Sin. Someone has to sin!
The catechism states that A&E are real humans so they must show up in the real world DNA time line and they don't. Well not yet. That is why A&E can be scientifically proved to be a myth. Belief & Science unfortunately for Faith clash head on.
The Vatican is doings its best to come up with an answer.
This proves that modern Catholicism is more sincere and subtle in seeking truth than the loud naive uneducated evangelical preachers who thinks they are saving souls by preaching a literal wrong interpretation of the scripture. Fundamentalists would be serving the cause of Christianity better by avoiding debates with scientists.
Thanks for this video!! Those who have eyes and do not see... those who have ears and do not listen... those who have brains and DO NOT think... is time to step aside from fanatisms and be more open towards the concealing of our faith and our knowledge. Those who achieve such a balance will inherit HEAVENS!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are talking about the old catechism. The church does not affirm that Adam and Eve are real or if human life started with one couple. The question is still open.
No I'm not. The most recent RC Catechism states that A &E and 'the event' are real but can be interpreted figuratively. For RC's the question is closed. You must believe. The Scared Scriptures are infallible and clearly wrong. If the question is open who committed the Original Sin that consigns mankind to eternal damnation? It might never have happened so why do we need a Pope? The Vatican needs A&E to exist even if they don't and that's it. Ridiculous.
ITERPRETED FIGURATIVELY what does this mean to you. I know what Catholicism considers dogma and what it doesnt and believing literally in the A & E story is not. The interpretations are many and do not have to be related to one action by one couple. It is the inner tendency of mankind to reject Gods will and decide independently what is right and wrong. I see where you come from from your silly subjective conclusion on the Vatican's need for A&E to survive, that is the RIDICULOUS part.
I am just quoting the RC catechism interpretation where it says that this real event could be simply explained for the uneducated. No Metaphors are allowed. A&E are real. This 'real' couple annoyed God so much that he is prepared to damn the whole human race to eternal torture. There is no dialogue in the RC religion. A&E are Sacred Scripture and must be believed by all followers. The whole thing is 'silly' that is what I am pointing out. The bible should go back on the fiction shelf.
There is no dialogue in the RC religion!!! Where you got this from? You are mixing Catholicism with born again fundamentalism. I believe your quote but I'll have to check the context and to whom it is addressed. The modern Catholic Church is composed of a very wealthy intellectual and scientific community. Literal interpretation of scriptures IS NOT A CATHOLIC teaching! The opposite is true. The RC church also believes in Evolution theory without denying the Creation aspect of reality.
There is no room for dialogue in the RC Church. You take it or leave it. I think you will find the RC church relies heavily on Original Sin!
Literal interpretation may not be RC teaching in other cases but the RC catechism states categorically the Adam & Eve are real people and the 'event' real! There is no argument about this. This is the important as if the 'Event' did not happen the rest is unnecessary.
The snag is scientific evolution proves A&E never existed.
The Pope as Herr Ratziger allows belief in evolution. Whether it is the theistic (unscientific) or the scientific variety is unclear. The Pope has not spoken ex cathedra as yet. Divine revelation is still awaited.
The Vatican may be composed of eminently intellectual and scientific persons but that does not mean they are infallible. Galileo is a good example of Vatican stupidity. The Pope is sensible enough to avoid such a controversy.
@stealthkiller2107 I had the most superb Roman Catholic Education that money can buy! Eight years with Irish Dominican nuns. I know my catechism backwards. I think it is you who should take a refresher course. It is difficult because the Church is based on a false premise and there is nothing that can be done about it. It is over!

There is a lot of negativity in these comments... but no one has answered the question of how light literally came on the first day and the sun and stars came on the second.
Did God breathe the same way into animals and insects? Catholics view Gen 2:7 as God giving man a soul; or eternal life. In the same way, the fall brings eternal death; not physical.
That's why we're indifferent to evolution; we don't believe Genesis has to do with with physical creation of man.
Explain A &E? The RC Catechism sates that one has to believe in Adam, The Official Vatican position is that A&E are real people and the Fall is a real event. it really happened. It is not a story or allegory.
So when did it happen? Where are the biblical A&E? The Modern Scientific Theory of Evolution, if it is correct indicates they never existed!
It does not say directly where the light came from. Genesis 1:3 certainly indicates it was a created light to provide day and night until God made the sun on Day 4 to rule the day. It could have been done this way in order to show that the sun does not have priority over the creation. Evolution as well as paganism give credit to the sun for the wonder of creation.
The RC church is based entirely on the dogma of Original Sin. That means some real humans have to commit it!
Sadly for the Vatican although God and they mean God the Father can play with the laws of the universe when it come to real humans like Adam & Eve he is stuck. Humans have to obey the laws of nature.

Today, the official Church's position remains a focus of controversy and is fairly non-specific, stating only that faith and scientific findings regarding human evolution are not in conflict, though humans are regarded as a "special creation", and that the existence of God is required to explain the spiritual component of human origins. Catholicism is satanic. True Christians see the ROMAN catholic church as the whore of Babylon. The catholic religion is the greatest lie. It is the great deception that satan has unleashed on the world. The Vatican is only an opera of performance. They change the word of God. Change times and laws. The even have the colors of scarlet and purple which are the colors the whore wears. Whore meaning evil church. So of course the vatican plays both sides. It fits in perfect with all there bullshit.
buddy, u can tell me all day why i am wrong for being a catholic; i'll just brush that off my shoulder. but where do u come off telling me that being catholic is satanic? do u even know the meaning of the satanic religion? It's basically the worship of satan and that he is all powerful. That is in no way the teachings of catholicism. So don't u even try to falsely prove to these people reading ur comments that catholicism is satanic, because that is the biggest load of shit ever.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sure about that are you? It is hidden of course. It is not like they come right out and tell you. Satan would never do that would he. What would he do though? He would do exactly like I said. Lie and deceive. The door to heaven is narrow. How many members does the catholic church have? What is the largest church in the world? Would you not say that would be one hell of a prize for satan to get a hold of? I am not saying the people who belong are satanic but the leaders of it are.
u disgust me. i may not be the best man on earth and may not know everything about my religion, but u sir have no room to talk about me or my religion like this.u got some sort of twisted mind. u are by far the craziest, most evil person i have ever exchanged words with.
Okay, so now I am evil because I try and get people to look into the truth of the catholic church? I was raised catholic. I have an uncle who is high up in the ranks of this church and have had it poured down my throat my who life. Just because you do not want what I say to be true does not make me evil. I love God. I despise any religion that leads people down a path to hell. You need to really think about this long and hard before you devote yourself to it.
I'm not calling u evil for trying to disprove my religion, i'm just saying that what u said to me is a horrible thing to say about anyone's religion. i try my best not to down-size anyone else's religion. for Godsake i'm a friend of an athiest. we try not to discuss our religious beliefs and just go on with our lives as friends. u don't have to call other people's religion "satanic" because u their religion is wrong.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
As a Christian I do have to do exactly that. What would Jesus do. He would get pretty pissed off and put you and your religion right in your place. Catholics seem to think that Jesus was a push over that kept his mouth shut or something. Jesus was a dangerous man who stood up for the truth. Movies are not reality. Catholics do not live in reality. They pray to dead women for heavens sake. They think statues cry and bleed and that figures float around talking to them. What more do you need?
For a Christian, you do not follow what Christ said. To claim, without evidence that a religion is wrong because they wear different colors that actually represent different times.
Gold/Yellow with White for Holy Days, Christmas and Easter.
Red for Pentecost - blood of martrys - Maundy Thursday and Palm Sunday
Black - used on Good Friday and Holy Saturday
Pink/Rose - 3rd or 4th Sunday in Advent
Violet/Purple - symbolize pain, suffering, penance - Season of Lent.
There also is/are satanic religious groups that aren't about satan as an entity but rather focus on defiance against the christian church's moral values. They claim the 'sins' actually lead to happiness in life. If you want to learn more, google 'first church of satan' or 'anton lavey'.
As long as everybody is able to believe what they want, and more importantly, enables others to believe what they want, we can all be happy.
@ph34rn0d34th Thanks for the info, bro, but this argument was a while back. Since then my views toward evolution have changed and MinnesotaNorthStar and I have forgiven each other. But I agree with the final sentence. It's a shame that some people just can't coexist.
Did Christ not say, Love one another as I have loved you." ? So for you to call the Catholic Church satanic is slander. That is NOT love. You are opposing Love which is God when you speak against your neighbor in this way. Please stop that. You have been fed lies, and I am truly sorry for that. God bless you and I am praying for you MinnesotaNorthStar.
You need to stand up for God in the face of deceit. Children rapped. Evolution and aliens excepted. Rituals performed. Riches displayed. Diminishing the power of Christs death and resurrection by repeating the communion each week. Why do you deny the power that God has? Don't you know when Jesus died for our sins that it was strong enough the first time? Don't you know God could of created the entire universe instantly if he chose to? Don't you think mixing paganism with Christianity is a sin?
1) Raped children. Yes, a human fault. These things did not happen because of the Catholic Church.religioustolerance. org/clergy_sex8.htm
2) Christ told us himself to continue with the last supper. "Do this in memory of me"..Luke 22: 7-20 Matthew 26:17-29 Mark 14:12-25, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26... I can go on if you want
3) To all other questions apart from the last one, yes. I believe.
4) We do not mix paganism with Christianity. Tell me where we do and I will show where to seek the Truth.
like when a child insist on playing with fire. a spanking may be preferable or at least some form of punishment may be preferable to allowing the child to be burned. perhaps calling the catholic church satanic is not the best choice of words but one could always resort to the scriptures. such as galations one. let them be accursed. i.e. anyone who passes on a different gospel
remember the lord believed in the literal 6days of creation.
I agree! Thanks goodness we don't go with those foundamentalists who insist that the universe is 6000 years old. The universe is so much grander, so much more beautiful, than we can even begin to imagine. Of course, you won't see that if you lock yourself up with your bible.
I just wish that this video was available without that dreadful background noise. Feels like a horror movie.

It's hard to view it as anything other than heresy.

RayRay50418NO 2 years ago
Okay, so now I am evil because I try and get people to look into the truth of the catholic church? I was raised catholic. I have an uncle who is high up in the ranks of this church and have had it poured down my throat my who life. Just because you do not want what I say to be true does not make me evil. I love God. I despise any religion that leads people down a path to hell. You need to really think about this long and hard before you devote yourself to it.
MinnesotaNorthStar 2 years ago
I'm not calling u evil for trying to disprove my religion, i'm just saying that what u said to me is a horrible thing to say about anyone's religion. i try my best not to down-size anyone else's religion. for Godsake i'm a friend of an athiest. we try not to discuss our religious beliefs and just go on with our lives as friends. u don't have to call other people's religion "satanic" because u their religion is wrong.

Now you know.

@RayRay50418NO In case you might find this interesting;

MinnesotaNorthStar 2 years ago
1) Raped children. Yes, a human fault. These things did not happen because of the Catholic Church.religioustolerance. org/clergy_sex8.htm
2) Christ told us himself to continue with the last supper. "Do this in memory of me"..Luke 22: 7-20 Matthew 26:17-29 Mark 14:12-25, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26... I can go on if you want
3) To all other questions apart from the last one, yes. I believe.
4) We do not mix paganism with Christianity. Tell me where we do and I will show where to seek the Truth.

sometimes love has to be hard or tough.
like when a child insist on playing with fire. a spanking may be preferable or at least some form of punishment may be preferable to allowing the child to be burned. perhaps calling the catholic church satanic is not the best choice of words but one could always resort to the scriptures. such as galations one. let them be accursed. i.e. anyone who passes on a different gospel
remember the lord believed in the literal 6days of creation.

I disagree, the question of whether or not there is a god is definately a scientific one.

Amazing! Thank you! Finally a video that properly explains the Catholic view on evolution and Science as a whole.

@PortWestStudios
