  • The new Cars really stink, one original member? give me a break!

  • i LOVE the new album buy it 10/10 play it loud it will take you back............m50

  • From what I remember Rick was a prick with an ego that would not quit. As for Todd stepping in to lead, great! Sounds good to me and besides they were playing live Cars tunes and keeping the music alive.

  • Saw them in Stillwater, MN, outdoors on the St. Croix River a few years ago. The sound quality was better than a previous comment on this particular amateur phone-cam video which could make Frank Sinatra sound like Boris Karloff. Hey, liambui, trust me if you'd caught any of that tour live like the shows I saw, you'd have seen what. If nothing else, it got Mrs. Ocasek to tell Mr. Ocasek that if he didn't get off the couch and out of the house, Todd was gonna take his band away from him.

  • As good as Todd is (which is PDG) he's out of his element. There will never be another Benjamin Orr, and without Ric too, well this ain't it- at all

  • i would LOVE to see this inception of the CARS 1: because they are still making "that" sound :) 2: because Ben has passed (rip) 3:i never had the chance to see the original 4: and good for them for continuing the magic. so to the naysayers deal with it and ps the first 2 albums have been in my car since 1979 so yes i do count :) m50

  • It's a little weird hearing Todd Rundgren sing this. It's almost like it's not The Cars. Listening to him sing this would be like Frank Sinatra sing Incubus.

  • THERE SHOULD BE NO SUBSTITUTE FOR THE CARS.............PERIOD !

  • I'm sorry, but Todd should have "Seen The Light", and not have done this ! Sunday Dress, please. And it is MUCH TOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

  • STINKY!!!

Todd sounds like a drunken opera singer on this one!

  • Steeeeeth'neeeeeet.

  • I'm the biggest Cars fan, but not with Todd at the helm.

  • Bad, and not the good "Bad".

2/5th as good as the original. Yea, that seems about right.

  • Bad, and not the good "Bad".

2/5th as good. Yea, that seems about right.

  • Bad, and not the good "Bad".

  • Todd was asked to step up and di...and did it his way.

A fun chapter for both bands.

Todd Rocks so get hip to it

  • OMG!!!.... What a Fuckin" mockery of the original by Benjamin Orr!

  • Yeah I agree..I mean we all know that the drums, lead guitar and keyboards in The Cars were barely even noticeable on most of their tunes and without Ben and Ric their sound is barely recognizable. And who is this Rundgren guy anyway?

Anyone sense my sarcasm here? The original poster here must reside on some alien planet.

This is awesome and I'd pay to see this any day .Would I go see solo Ric? Nope!

  • Todd is great.

  • BENJAMIN WONDERFUL SINGER GOD BLESS YOU I LOVE YOU MUCH

  • What an amazing band! They should have bigger.

I could sing Ben better than Todd though - I was born for that gig.

  • HELLO TOODD ITS NOT YOU

  • theres enough cruiety and dissappointment in this world PLEASE PLEASE stop while your ahad TODD

  • @dks13dks Ironic isn't it? Dimbag Darrell from Pantera gets shot in a night club a few years ago for putting on an awesome preformance but Todd can trash the shit out of the Cars and some people on YouTube are stupid enough to actually DEFEND his butchering of an 80's classic.

  • Benjamin Orsechowski is rolling in his grave.

  • Todd Rundgren sucks he tries to replace benjamin orr. No body can't replace Benjamin Orr. Benjamin Orr has a wonderful voice in Candy O and all of his songs. Todd needs to make his own music and copying The Cars songs period.

  • They need a different lead singer.

  • Loved the old Cars. I was prepared to hate this, but i dont. Quite good actually. You cant live in the past and forever mourn the dead.

  • I hate it when bands dont sing the song, the way it's supposed to be sung....I dont like the little twist they put on it.....it's annoying

  • OK, now I take back what I said about Todd Rundgren. He sucks. No one will replace Ben Orr.

  • Its like the cars doing opera

  • I saw this live and it effin rocked so much harder than the original cars ever did

  • @walkerbrothersmusic You're clearly hysterical. No one could ever rock harder than the original Cars.

  • Hey hes no Ben Orr,but C'mon Th Songs & Band are Great ELLIOT EASTON is Fantastic Here!!Just wish Ric Okasic would've done it,but since he didnt Im Glad Todd stepped up & does a good job singing both Ben & Ric Songs, because Otherwise we'd never get to hear them again,I Hope the cars finally get Inducted into the Rock hall soon!!!

  • No one can do Candy-O like Ben. Rest in Peace, baby xoxoxo kisses*

  • The cars were a flash in the pan compared to the 40+ year non-stop career of one of the US's best rock song-writers -Rundgren. He should have never played with these one-trick-ponys.

  • That was friggin great.

  • Come off of it, people. Orr was great but he's gone. Rundgren is Rundgren...Rick is out as well...accept it for what it is and leave it at that....also, most of the lousy sound is a result of the lousy video...

  • Boo. What is this Crash Test Dummies? mmm mmm mmm mmmmm

  • HELLO cars IT'S ME

  • Hmmm... respect to Todd Rundgren for his achievements but this sounds pretty bad. The sound is likely to blame but it sounds very loose, not on time. Todd has his own style and stage presence, but in this particular track it doesn't mesh well with the band's sound. Good luck to them all though.

  • Ummm, no.

  • @wring-whatever the F your name is... Yeah, i think this is cool rock shit, but to be honest with you, THIS GUY (Todd Rundgren - Ted Nugent wannabe) absolutely SUCKS compared to Ben Orr. Now personally, Ben Orr is Ben Orr's business not mine! However, on his behalf i will say and i know many others will say, that Todd Rundgren has Zen-Talent compared to Ben Orr's Mega-Talent. Very simple to figure this stuff out. I'm sure you can try. Have a nice day and get a life!

  • OH my gosh this is awful!!!! I couldn't even make it thru the whole song......Sorry, for all that this guy is trying, he can't even come close to Ben!!!!! Ben forever!!!!

  • This blows ! Please tell me none of the original members are in this crapfest.

  • Crapfest? LOL. Back to listening to your Belinda Carlisle and Boy George cassettes.

  • YUCK.... BEN ORR... FOREVER

  • The stage is wild cool, and the music is as great as the good old days. Todd is a totally cool Rock & Roller. But... They need the voice and the calm, the glue. They need Benjamin Orr or someone who can naturally fill his role. I know of one person who could do it, and would do it, for the joy of it. And btw, wouldn't it be friggin' amazingly awesome if Ric and/or David got on board as well. It's very probable.

  • @EjGerbino

Orr is dead ...guess you missed that bit news ...he died of cancer dude ,,,,,,,guess they could have propped his corpse up in front though....LOL

  • Ben Orr is deliberate, calibrated, comfortable, natural, classy, charismatic, controlled, restrained, tempered, tempo'd, tenor, toned, and tremelo. The New Cars need to be the new The Cars once again. In all my years around music, i can honestly only think of one person who can come the absolute closest to naturally fitting-in to the role that Ben Orr played in this band.

  • Yeah, I really liked Orr, but it was fun to see Todd in a big-budget production stage show again...it was a great tour.

  • AWESOME - Kudos to Greg and Elliot and Todd.

Pretty damn good! Guitars and Keyboards sound like the original. What the hey, Todd puts a new twist on the vocals. Just like Paul Rodgers touring with Queen. It isn't Freddy but it ain't half bad. Sad to leave a really great band hanging just because Benjamin died and Rick doesn't feel like touring any more.

  • sorry......i'm a huge Ben Orr fan......just can't say I like it

  • nO oRR nO FUN!

  • Geez. Talk about over the top.

  • Guitar work is good - but vocals not coming through on this for me. Pretty effin big stage production huh?

  • Where was this taped/

  • Rundgren has referred to the project as "an opportunity ... for me to pay my bills, play to a larger audience, work with musicians I know and like, and ideally have some fun for a year."

  • In late 2005, rumors began circulating that the influential Boston-based band The Cars were planning to re-form despite bass player Benjamin Orr's death and the oft-mentioned refusal of former lead singer Ric Ocasek to even consider any reunion. Soon the rumors mentioned that Rundgren had joined Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes in rehearsals for a possible new Cars lineup.

  • Ocasek stated in a 2005 interview on Rockline that he hated touring and it was unlikely that he would do so again. He also stated he would not be reuniting with The Cars again, but gave the okay to his former fellow bandmates to do so with Todd Rundgren replacing him on vocals (the resulting band is called The New Cars).

  • I am quite shocked for all the hate towards this band. Maybe Greg and Elliot wanted to enjoy The Cars again and Rick was just being stubborn. What is wrong with Elliot and Greg wanting to have fun again?? Let em!

On top of that, the rest of the band is stellar! Todd Rundgren is a legend! Kasim Sulton (bass) has a rather breathtaking resume in music as well. And the drummer was from the amazing "The Tubes" as in "Talk to ya later." Let em have fun! Cheers!

  • @dontillman I agree..I guess everyone is so offended because Todd was got the job. I say good for Todd. Why get bent out of shape? I do agree that he's surely not any Ben Orr, and no one could ever replace him, and I doubt that was their intention. But I don't think I'd have a fit about it online. Anyone who has ever sung karaoke has enjoyed perhaps a fraction of the buzz that Todd's getting. So what if his voice goes haaaa when Ben went huuuuh..or whatever.

  • @rachelsonfire Thank you for your kind comment! : )

  • It would be nice if they could find someone to step in for Ben, INXS did it . ACDC pulled it off. Queen may even have someone close. Hopefully someday they may be blessed as well...Until then they should not even bother unless they are songs Rick sings.

  • nobody could step in for Ben.Nobody.

  • This sux, I saw the Cars live twice. nassau Coliseum, and Central Park. Great band, not like the coo-ing homo shit that passes for music now, or rap crap.

  • It sounds pretty good but the magic is missing. Painfully so. I'd rather hear a plain old cover band make a go at The Cars' material.

  • Ugh, had to stop listening to this before my ears started to bleed! Horrible! If you want to be 'The New Cars" then do your own new songs and leave The Original Cars classics alone. I would rather listen to Benjamin or Ric sing THEIR songs here on Youtube or from a DVD or CD then listen to the butchering of some classic tunes all in the name of the all mighty dollar. Long live The Cars!!! RIP Benjamin.

  • Long live the Cars indeeed ! & might I add I muted this immediately. Why the hell aren't they in the rock & roll hall of Fame ??? Shame on them !

  • my comment got a thumbs down... first time for everything I guess. I agree with you.Leave the original cars classics alone.& I still think they should be in the Rock & Roll hall of fame. What's wrong with people ?

  • ....and by the way it was Ben who sang 40 per cent of cars songs includimg this one ,leartn your rock history before you make an ass out of your self DICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Get with the time Rics not gonna do it at least Todd has the chops for the JOB thats right JOB the Job is working for the fans Rics to lazy and narcicistic

  • God bless these guys. I mean they have to eat right? So, rock on Greg, Elliot, and David! Miss you Ric and RIP Ben. :)

  • David is not involved with the New Cars.

  • This is actually better the some of the Car's performances. Drums sound a little muddy, and not the original parts, but maybe better then David Robinson's work, cause live (on YouTube) the Cars always sound a little too sparse and s l o w for my tastes.

  • The sparseness was a bit typical in the late 70s early 80s. Just in between the classic era and 80s popish rock. Listen to some of Queens stuff as well as Billy Squire's from this time span. Not like the multi-layer synth backed multi-track stuff you hear now a days. actually i like it, its pure and direct. The space gives it a quality you dont get these days.

  • This sucks horribly. Cars minus Ben O. and Rick O. are more like the Bikes than the cars. Blah, just horrible...

  • Its Todd Rundgren and without him there would have never been the cars or a lot of other bands

  • I know who it is. I love a lot of the old Todd Rundgren stuff, but it still sucks all the same. I'm sure the Cars would have been around with or without him, the original Cars that is.

  • @shyven sadly, Cars minus Ben O. is like Doors minus Jim M., or the brief attempt of Queen to continue sans Freddie M.....or Genesis without Phil C. from 1998-2001. Just don't work. But at least this group is trying....but there's something that can't be perfectly replicated....just like all those Elvis impersonators are not Elvis!

  • Who is this guy singing? He sucks! Benjamin Orr, may he rest in peace, is rolling over in his grave. This singer sounds like the singer of "Monster Mash." Please.

  • If you've never heard of Todd Rundgren then obviously your knowledge of music needs some serious education.

  • I've heard OF Todd Rundgren; It's just that I didn't know that mediocrity replaced RIc and Ben. He is totally INCONGRUOUS with the Cars' sound. It would be like naming Justin Timberlake as the lead singer of "The New Black Sabbath."

  • @liambui It's only Todd Rundgren, one of the most notable performer/engineers of rock and roll bands and ever. Responsible for the production of many records from the likes of (from Wiki): "..New York Dolls, Badfinger, Grand Funk Railroad, Hall & Oates, Meat Loaf, Patti Smith, Shaun Cassidy, The Tubes, Tom Robinson Band, XTC, Bad Religion, Cheap Trick, The Hello People, Hiroshi Takano, Bourgeois Tagg, Dragon (aka Hunter), 12 Rods, The Pursuit of Happiness, The Psychedelic Furs."

  • @rachelsonfire That's all good and well but whatever he did RIGHT back then does NOT give him the right to butcher the shit out of a Cars song. Hell, he cant even sing the right tempo much less the right key. Just listen to him sing......can ya help me iiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn? What the fuck was THAT supposed to be? A vocal turd dropping out of his ass? FUCK TODD FOR FUCKING UP THE CARS!

  • @Xcorgi Sorry, But you are one of those idiots who wants a live show to sound like the studio perfomance. I like that the tempo is different and you obviously didn't actually see the show. The sound sucks on these audience recordings so you really can't even judge. BTW- FUCK YOU for scorning Todd Rundgren who is one of the geniuses of modern musicl. And to even compare Rungren's vocals to Ocasek's? Rundgren has sung the broadest ranges and has more energy and charisma anyday than Ocasek.

  • @quornholio I agree. The singer sounds like shit. I mean damn, it's not like it took some superhuman vocal range to sing in this low key to begin with. Hell, I'm no pro but even I could sing this one and be pretty much dead on. (as could pretty much anyone else.....unless they are tone deaf). This guy sounds like he's trying to grunt out a turd. Whenever someone is asked to replace someone else in ANY band, they should do it as close to they original as possible and NOT their own fucked up way!

  • I wish people, even a progeny band, would stop trying to make the song "their own.' Sing the notes, or is you can't don't try it, and don't rush it. I like the intentions of this band, but I wish Ric would come back for one year and show them how it's done.

  • Ummm...No.

  • i once lusted over candy-o! spread acrossed a car with next to nothing on. however that was back in the 80's when candy-o was in her teens! she is pushing fourty, certainly a milf by now for sure!

  • ouch

  • Couldnt imagine seeing them with 2 of their most intense members missing. A for effort! I agree Greg and Elliot deserve to be heard however its only 'half' of the equation up there on the stage. If Ric was there too I'd camp out for those tickets.

I saw The WHO in 1988. Keith was missing and something just didnt seem right but it was a GREAT show despite it. Roger, Pete and John were still there so no complaints really.

The drummer played his nuts off but it just wasnt quite the same.

  • i dont know what elliot and greg were thinking when they made the decision to reform im certain it was a money thing

how the hell can they have even the word cars in this outfit rest in peace ben

  • Dear Lord Chtulhu, this sucks.

  • Who in the fuck is Lord Chtulhu? This is America. You suck. Do something better.

  • sucks

  • I had to stop it short, the singing was killing me.

  • These guys suck turtle dicks! I rather listen and watch The "OLD" Cars!

  • You know there is nothing wrong with the new cars, the problem is there's just a bunch of people that want to bring Ben Orr back from the dead and make Ric Ocasek do something he doesn't want to do. You can compare the original to this version and it sounds almost identical.

  • Amen

  • Actually this was a fantastic effort! Guys, you did a great job!! Thanks for hard work and the heart that you put into this. BTW: Great stage set!!! Elliot, Greg, Kasim, Todd and Prairie, great job!! Ignore the noise!! : ) You guys are great!!!

  • this is awful. I loved the Cars but this is NOT THE CARS! Ric Ocasek was the Cars anyways so... RIP Ben!

  • Kind of embarassing for Rundgren, but Tyler probably never paid child support for Liv, and the bills must be paid.

  • Embarassing? Guess thats why they continue to perform to sold out venues! Why would Steven pay child support when she was legally Todd's daughter.

  • The Cars sucked live. Always did.

  • the cars never sucked live.if you ever saw the cars back in the day you wouldent say that.thats a fact

  • get the cars live on musikladen 1979. it's fantastic!!

  • sorry, i have to contradict you, because having seen them live in late 70's/early 80's, they were great live. awesome in fact.

  • He sounds like an opera singer singing the Cars. Musically it is great, but get some soul into the voice!

  • Hey, it's better than nothing... we all miss Ben but I think Todd fits in just fine and screw Ric for not wanting to participate. Elliot and Greg deserve to be heard.

  • They sound terrible !! Ric and Benjamin are highly mossed.

  • Todd Sucks ! Get Ric Back !

  • I saw them when they cam to wisconsin and todd was on that night! its kinda like i will watch some vdieos and he is OFF BIG TIME but then some vieos he is right on :-p

  • I'm sorry but this is not doing the Cars any justice. It's not the same without Ric and drummer David Robinson. Of course Ben Orr passed away a few years back. It just doesn't work for me!

  • the singing seems a little off...:S the music's excellent, but the singing just seems to be too slow, wrong tempo, something...Oo it's like hearing it on acid. i want to love it, but..

    (old cars fanatic)

  • ...to Ylais: I prefer the old cars too...there is the original video on my page, as a tribute to BEN ORR...none like him performing Candy-O in my opinion...RIP BEN !

  • yeah Candy-O was brilliant.

  • Takes me back to the 80s! Wow, cool group... I'd like to see these guys do this song live somewhere.

  • Too bad the lead singer (Benjamin) passed away a few years ago.

  • Very cool, many thanks for sharing this!

  • Looks like a good show. I'd like to see them. Thanks for posting! Brings back some memories, always liked this song.
