  • go and buy a second hand clavia nord rack, and then you can tell you have the real shit not shit software of shit!

  • why isn't synplant on here?!?

  • That free version of Zebra doesnt sound anywhere near as rich as this - wonder why ?!!

  • (2011 synth list)

    1. omnisphere

    lol

  • i'm proud to have Albino 3

  • Albeeno

  • computer music will you ever do a 2011 top 10 here's mine 1 sylenth 1 2 Omnisphere 3 trilian 4 NI massive 5 Nexus 2 6 Faw circle 7 Fm8 8 Rob papen Predator 9 zebra 2 10 Dcam
  • @keogh7776 Nexus doesn't count, it's not a real synthesizer, just a rom player (rompler). It has some powerful sounds, but its way too limited to even be useful for people who like to make custom sounds.

  • @Koshi0koshi i knw its not a synth in terms of additive and subtractive but i put it in cause i have all the ones i named and its a great tool for getting ideas on the screen, in my opinion its the best place to go for piano sounds, check out "film piano in omricon" its amazing and the best ive heared yet!!!! if i was to take it out id throw U-he ACE there in its place, the most underrated synth EVER, 70 bucks for a real analog sounding monster. thanks dude

  • @keogh7776 I am gunna go look up the U-he ACE now! Thanks for the heads up. Alright, I was just trying to clear things up ;)

  • how bout Ni Massive ?

  • 5. Native Instruments - FM8

    4. Albino

    3. RGC - z3ta +

    2. Native Instruments - Absynth

    1. U-he - Zebra II

  • This is 4 years old,I`m almost certain Omnisphere would be nr.1 now.

It is AWESOME.(Trillian too, runs on the same engine). It`s all very personal, depends on what you like, the interface and the kind of music you want to make.

    Best wishes to you all.

  • the transition music sucks

  • What about errm Vanguard,I was able of creating unspeakable leads with it????

  • smb explain why nexus not synth, and what determine syth what it exactly does and where to use?

  • @leparditas a synth is a sound created using oscillators. a synth is a generated sound. nexus simply samples sounds.

  • @afbofficial a sound sample its a wave oscillator; I mean, another type of oscillator , Nexus its a wave synth, or a sample player, most of sample player uses Subtractive synthesis

  • ha! usewr friend;y? Nah go for logic

  • errr. OMNISHERE!!!!??? HELLO????? what kinda poll is this? spectrasonics omnishere is THE BEST!!!

  • this comp should have scoped out the best VSTI's not just Soft synths

  • This top is ridiculous. The best is sylenth far above the other in terms of sound quality.

  • The big Mr. Papen, calling 'Arpeggiators', 'Arpeggirators'.. over.. and over.. and over.

    2:40

  • oh wow, i guess i'm lucky, i have 4 of the top 5 synths. :D

  • Absynth demo sounds like "Chemical Brothers ft Richard Ashcroft - The Test"

  • I'm looking to get a good and user friend program which one would you guys recommend

  • @luda82189 If you mean user-friendly DAW, then I'd suggest FL Studio by Image-Line. If you mean soft-synth, then Sylenth1 or z3ta+.

  • @luda82189 @luda82189 - If you mean and want a soft synth that is easy to use and offers class options for sound design - then without question I would suggest that you buy Rob Papen's BLUE . It's got the best Arp and Sequencer on the market for a start, much better than Omnisphere. It's capable of Subtractive PD FM and Waveshaping. It's Modulation Matrix is easy to use and for the price it's a gift.

I own Omnisphere but prefer RP BLUE

If anyone tells you different - ignore them

  • what about terratec komplexer, reaktor, gladiator

  • My Commodore machines are integral to my home recording studio. Click my name to discover my Commodore 64 videos. Or view my other page, THEDUSTPILE, to hear some great chiptunes on my videos.

Or visit dustybin org uk for mountains of Commodore 64 music software and other goodies I have collected.

  • z3ta and Zebra are the most clear sounding synths Omnisphere & Trilian is a most for music production and Alicia's Keys is the best piano plugin.

  • im gutted that albino wasnt no.1 lol rob papen is a genius

  • I love zebra II, But i really wish omnisphere was actually on this list!

  • @drummerkidmashy omnispher and trillian its not synths

    what about terratec komplexer, reaktor????????????????????????

  • What about Reaktor?

  • @skolloerty: Have you not heard of EQ? i.e. to make sounds fit into a mix.

  • sylenth1 ist hte best

  • Well, it really does show the readers of FM just dont have a clue.

Not a single one of those synths will fit in your mix. They are all intended to dazzle you with massive sounds and the simply overpower your mixes leaving no room for other elements.

Listen to each one carefully Do you actually hear those sounds in big club records NO. Ambient weirdo music YES from people who cant make music

The synths in Reason blow all these away because you can sculpt them in to your mix,.

    FM=Amateurs

  • @skolloerty True they didn't do a very good job of demoing each synth, but to say none of the synths will fit in the mix... Well, that just shows you've either never tried any of these synths, or you just suck at production.

  • @skolloerty I'm sorry to disappoint you but you are talking bullshit. The synths in Reason are excellent but VSTs are the STANDARD for computer music production, they get used massively I would say especially in commercial dance productions!!! (the "big club records").

  • @skolloerty your literally an idiot thats all

  • zebra 2 defenetly the best

  • albino is overated its all about komplexer and fabfilterone

  • Im not really feeling Absynth anymore. The sounds are so tiny :/

  • Yeaahhh,Synthesizers are Humans best and brilliant invention

  • All great synths. Zebra 2 is amazing. The reFX Vanguard is also a nice vst.

  • All of them can suck the big cock of Spectrasonic Omnisphere!

  • @KocaMetallec Omnisphere also use samples created on synths ( including absynth )

read the preset descripcion in Omnisphere - its all there.

  • Tip!

Ik Multimedia Website - 4X1 soon to be 5X1 Group Buy for Sample Tank $49.99 - Go get it !!!! Before time runs out !!

    Robdrums69

  • My fav is the Automat!

  • they don't zoom in enough on the Zeta + stereo delay

  • @yousurfer2 hahahahaa

  • Yes i agree, i d'ont understand why the minimoog vs is not on top 10 .

    my eyes hate albino !!!

  • @lolodilolo Albino 3 is very good the best way is not to juge some synths by factory presets - because they dont reflect the full potencial of synth.

  • @Eclipsepoland

Actually I think they *should* try to showcase the full potential. But what you say is true in a lot of cases.

    I personally love Z3ta+

  • Albino was recommended but when i finally got it the presets were really thin/weak and the filters were just annoying. I guess it's a bit different and probably has a place in some tracks

  • my opinion is that nexus is the best vst ever. zebra ? lol

  • Nexus is not a synth. This is top 10 synths.

Nexus is for people who aren't creative enough to make their own sounds and need to use pre-made sounds created by others.

  • @mrklp Thats not true. Many producers use it for many things. Its not because you cant make it. I use it mainly for pads, the leads and basses are shit in nexus but pads and pianos are great.

  • @crisshady198666 I agree. Who made this list?

  • I bought Omnisphere I find it a great synth, but its computer intensive. I've had it crash with my Studio 8 DAW software.

  • hey how much does it cost as software? cus i keep finding the box set and thats £350! i mean fuck that you know? haha

  • After seeing Omnispere in action its goto be number 1 I've demoed all the virtual synths none not even hardware synths come close to Omnisphere. Omni is a do it all master of all synth and its no wonder the main desiger was a sound engineer for Roland for a long time and he has a large crew thats been making Omnisphere for many years and because it's software they can do what ever they can dream up because they have 4 core i7 and 3 GB of ram on tap

  • I agree. Where is the Omnisphere?????

  • this top ten was compiled like 2 years before omnisphere's release.

  • and omnisphere is not a synth it's a rompler as is nexus.

  • @TheNightWriter101 You are so wrong and yet right at the same time.

It is a Synth in every sense of a Virtual Synth and it's a Hybrid as it also allows for samples to be used. So it's a synth with bonus add on features so one gets the best of both worlds.

  • @ixcuix Back then Omnisphere was called Atmosphere

It probably didn't make it because it's so expensive and so not so many users I guess.

Rather like METASYNTH which is another amazing synth that most can not afford, no one here mentioned it but it's a killer - hard to get the hang of but it's a stunner

  • Albino represent baby!

  • errr....omnisphere?

  • ----->>> ICE!! SNOW!!! I'd rather be anyplace than here! But there is no place I'd rather be than NewHorizone. What better time to see the world than right now!!! newhorizone dot vzones (dot)

  • No Nexus?? :S

  • Lol, nexus is more of a soundbank than a synth...

  • oh no reaktor 5 cmon

  • What about Reaktor or the Minimonsta or the ARP2600v ????

  • GO ALBINO!!!!

My top 3 would be Blue, Albino, Massive

  • and 5. refx vanguard. oh and throw synplant in there for 6.

  • my top five: 1. fabfilter twin 2. u-he zebra 3 lennar synlenth1 3. waldorf ppg wave 4. fm 8

  • What ? Reaktor isn't even there ?

  • All of them are great synths, my advice to the beginners: Get the Zebra 2 and LEARN IT. It wont be easy at the beginning, but the effort will pay off.

Also, taking notice we are Q3 of 2009 and not 2007, there are new synths worth checking out like the Waldorf Largo, the Synplant (anyone who smokes ganja will fall in love with it hehe) or the Microtonic (for drums).

If you watched the first part, I'd said get a Sylenth1 too. It's simple enough and sounds amazing.

  • @djzmo where can I learn about zebra? (tutorials and stuff for begginers)

  • rapture looked and sounded the coolest! where is thor though?

  • Z3ta and sylenth1 and zebra2 are the best 3

  • What? I can't believe there's not a single Arturia synth in the top ten. This is ridicilous.

  • arturia's synths aren't that great and they all have this weird hollow sound to them.

  • @shanetracer are they virtual?

  • @shanetracer

Honestly, I can see why. I don't think Arturia's synths are that great.

  • @shanetracer arturia is sick

  • @shanetracer

    Oh yea

  • @shanetracer arturia has laggy synthesizers the minimoog v plays not after 20 seconds and minimoog modula is move slower

  • @lukuntri you sluggin?

  • wow the absynth patch sucked, there are much better pads but this may took 30sec to browse the library.

  • But still..all hail the winner! I remember seeing someone program this most sick trance lead on zebra, cant wait to try it.

  • Omnisphere as Nexus are mere soundbanks with customization added to them at an inflated price, they are samplers of their own content indeed!!Not Synths. Its a shame reFX Vanguard wasnt on this list,a true softsynth success and didnt catch a spot on this. They same as Rob Papen Predator.

  • I bought Albino but i seems the Arps and Sequences don't sync.

  • z3ta+ crashes quite a lot

  • Your computer must just be shit. I use z3ta+ in all of my projects and it never crashed once.

  • z3ta is awesome..you can also use all soundbank effects as plugins on audio channels, so its not just a snyth its also an awesome effects unit.

  • Albino rocks!

  • what a freak and un-needed, what u dribbling on about? reported for abuse, not a wise move, remeo

  • The Best is OMNISPHERE!!!

  • Sytrus

    Thor

  • well i'm still trying to learn the synths n stuff

but i'm using Ni pro and Z3ta+

and i quite like em both

i won't say anything bout the other synths bcus i don't know em :p

  • Yep, for me it's Sylenth too. :-) Just sahme about how they messed up velocity modulation. But the rest ... 1st class.

  • Makes me feel good for getting Abysynth4. Almost backed out of that purchase. Another NI synth that get's little attention is Kontact 3. Great selection of world instruments. Also Miroslav Philharmonik has some really great orch sounds.

  • I love Albino

  • Come to think of it... how do the Computer Music readers know which is best if they don't have them all to compare? Just cos more people have or have voted for Zebra II does that make it better than the rest?

  • they were probably asked to rate them out of 10. in which case the results would be pretty fair because people won't be rating ones they havent used :)

  • I think z3ta+ and Sylenth sound better than Zebra II

  • oh no a guy with no videos or anything uploaded on his profile, is giving me abuse for no reason, fuck off u russian fuck, most of u russians must bootleg enough things in music anyways lol dont reply, cos u aint gna get another reply from me.

    peace

  • Zebra 2 honestly looks like it sucks, is this Top ten backwards?

  • wat about the best stand alone softsynt?

  • Most of these have stndalone apps, or at least the ones that rape like massive and absynth. I like poop and you should touh

Its okay though becuase who doesnt have a DAW?

    WHat are you homless?

  • I'd say the best synth out there but I dont wanna give away my trade secret.

  • To be fair all have there advantages and disasvantages if the plug in can make the sound u want to use then thats all there is to it.

Dont rubbish other synths because you have a favourite just dont use them lol

    Cme on people seriously.

  • How about FABFILTERs ???

    Superb filters!

  • Because this is top 10 Virtual Synths lol Fab FIlters an FX plug in, Its hardly a synth! U dumbo!

  • Actually - Petr0vich13 is right. FabFilter make 2 VSTi synths: FabFilter One and FabFilter Twin.

Try them out, they're actually fairly decent, although not quite up to par with some these top 10 synths IMO.

  • I was out of order callin him dumbo tho, but was funny

  • hehehe it was cute

but i dont think fabfilters gets enough credit!

    its good shit man

  • ZEBRA 2 is awesome :D

  • Fascinating.

  • z3ta + is the best i work most time with her :) (bassspencer)

  • I just bought Zebra recently, and it is a monster! I highly recommned it.

  • when u hear what have youv been missing z3ta or zebra however gud youll never fire up em again...youll have them installed..but very rarely...less is more always remeber that

  • ..my friend I 've been into sound synthesis and music for 10 years now ;;;it's all a matter of taste and vsery subjective

The only thing I use are my nord modular and zebra 2 and renoise ...

Zebra 2 is awesome ;;;;verry nice filters

Try the albino with a high resonance setting on the filter .;;it's sounds awfull and weak

No disrespect to mr.linnplug .;Ijust don't like it ..

  • albino sounds like a wet newspaper ...verry weak filters ...

    zebra 2 rules

  • i dislike albino to :/

  • I would agree, but the ones I found are only viruses :(

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I will enjoy downloading these for free! XD

  • Picking a virtual synth is like choosing a guitar and is very subjective. One is not usually better then the other. My favorite is Reason, followed by fm8. I find that Omnisphere is the biggest hunk of junk I've ever came across although everyone seems to worship it; however, it only sounds really good because it's in 32 bit. I have yet to try Zebra two but I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl.

  • Zebra is well worth looking into, I've got it and it has been doing wonders for my ambient tracks.

  • ths for the vids = )

  • I own ABSYNTH and it is awesome !

I have found REASON difficult to use.

  • This gives awesoem inspiration to my music! Alot more VSTi´s to use, thanks alot!

  • rapture looks good

  • albino is very poor, bad pressets, sound's old...

  • U should really re-check albino, its the sh!t...

  • It has its purposes. It really all depends on what kind of song you are working on.

  • Albino is great.

  • yeah zebra 2 looks like a beast

  • it is for dnb, check my songs out :D

  • See you later, oscillators. XD

  • zebra2 my favourite vsti xD

  • i'm using fm8 as using fm7 but fm8 has all the options that m7 had.

  • Albino 3 FTW.

  • omg never heard of zebra 2 :S

  • I always thought Jupiter 8V (not listed) and Sylenth were sexy but these also happen to be the only 2 vsts in the world you can't crack.

  • i beg to differ .. ive cracked sylenth

  • This is all pretty neat but no thanks im happy with my Kurzweil K2000 and my ASR10. Real phat, real old. Ill stack up my 1meg ASR10 patch next to any VSTi 500meg patch and well you know hardware smokes all VSTi even the new 24bit stuff like Omnisphere with a DSP card suck as UAD. If I had the money then id buy an analog eheh...

  • look at omnisphere before you say that..

  • MIXMASHUP, yep. I take it all back. Ill always keep my K2000 and ASR, really nice but I just ordered Omnisphere and Kore II and Kore 5 Komplete. Yep, a last holdout for Hardware but I just Kaved in after watching a live show with a craptop and Kore II I was sold and ordered the next day. However I make the beats with my ASR10 and my kicking newage ambient with the K2000 so everything has its palce side by side with software/hardware.

  • I can't believe Z3ta+ is #3! it sucks xD

  • actually its great if you tweak the sounds... its worth trying the demo at least

  • cody, u should understand what z3ta is capable of. ask your gereat feriend Triplestar.

  • i dont think z3ta

    should be this high..

its has cool sounds.. but ugly interface

    and very high cpu usage.

i think vanguard, predator, even v station is better imo

  • Maybe you should learn how to use it before you make a comment like that.

  • do you consider me eye candy? im tasty :)

  • Albino is sweet. I also have the Zebra 2 demo but I haven't really had the chance to try it out properly. Haven't had the chance to try out any of the other synths mentioned here either 'cause I'm still a n00b :p

  • I have the zebra 1!! and it sounds so awesome!!! they synthesis is very simple and it is easy on your computer!! i would love to try the zebra 2 do!!!

  • the Thor synth in Reason 4 should be in top 5

  • Reason is great to create complex sounds, itÄs got nice synths and effects, and the wiring is cool.

But it's not the answer to everything. ;)

  • actually should look for energyxt ,,, its vst plugin which allows you to put vsti's/vstfx inside it and link them modularly,, so yeah ,, no real need for reason after all lol,, but end of day user preference is advised, personally i like to have a choice as to what synths im running,, rather than be forced to (reason)

  • indeed thor is a really great synth...and reason is awesome too...i can't live without it :D so i rewire it into cubase and i have all the advantages...people who says things like 'reason...lol' and other lame things about it should give it a try rewired into another daw ;)

  • I hate the Rewire. Having to have two DAWs open becomes an organizational knightmare. Sure you can bounce everything to audio but then you loose the flexibility.

  • Reason..lol

  • i wonder where vanguard... haha

  • reason is a all in one daw that has no support for vsts...so i guess its not really that good, I have version 3, and i love reason for certain things, and thanks to rewire you can intergrate it into your daw, so i guess reasons synths aren't here in the so called top 10 because of its closed off nature and lack of being available in vst...etc formats...

  • 1. its about vst´s not musikmaking programms

    2. i worked with reason, and it really sucks

    vst = virtual synth

with reason you cant use vst´s, try cubase... then you can use all of this vst-plugins...

a vst is at example the subtractor in reasen, but you cant use any vst-plugins in reason like those in this video, that means you are really handycaped, ciao

  • You wrongman.VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology, and its common interface for music programs. It doesnt mean it is synthesizer. It can be Reverb or any other FX - but not only.
