You just convinced me to buy the Gibson P94's for my Custom Shop 2009 Wilshire Alpine White . I hope it's worth the investment . Thxs for the demo. Great Blues playing by the way . Blues On ... - Jerry - AKA - HUTCHfromBA .
They are actually a single humbucker bobbin overwound with 43 or 44 gauge wire mounted centrally on a bucker baseplate. The only concession to real P90s is that the poles are sandwiched between two magnets.Cause the bobbin is nothing like the short/wide P90 style they can't possibly sound like a P90. They are gross, choked and lifeless. And what's worse is that many of 'em charge a premium for this type of pickup!!
can anyone tell me how the p94's are made. a p90 has equal thickness of wiring but if u look at the p94 it looks like u can only go so wide with the wiring b4 running out of room on the sides so the pick up wont be as thick as a p90 due to size constrictions to fit an HB housing. so how big is this single coil inside is it just a damed Fender single? which is nothing like the sound or construction of a p90
hey Michael, how do you own so many lefty guitars? It is hard enough to get hold of one or two here in the UK! Are they custom left handed models (such as your fenders)?
@JaysalP GAK.co.uk, this is the best place for good priced lefty guitars, i am a lefty too and i know how annoying it is in the guitar world, but gak have everything you could want.
@tom27j I got my Fender LH standard strat from dv247 for £400, but what's really annoying is not the guitar retailers, but the guitar manufacturers -- there is hardly any choice in terms of different left-handed models produced.
@JaysalP thats true, i found that fender and gibson only really produce left hand models on there kind of standard guitars, you can get LH teles and strats mexican and usa standards from fender, but if you want somthing a bit different like a highway one model no LH. same with gibson and even epiphone, what gets me most is the price, i looked on a site calld guitar guitar.com £999 for a SG standard from gibson and the LH model was £2000 wtf! we are left out in the music world.
very nice played man! I have been thinking about buying this guitar for a really long time now...im 15 years old, and a big fan of Oasis, and i known that they used this guitar a lot. problem is, i've heard that its really hard to take care of it compared to an epiphone les paul. So im either gonna go with this one or some form of an epiphone les paul....whats your thought? would this guitar be good for rock, and does it really take much work to keep it good? like humidity and stuff...
Been some time since I've left you a comment. Hope all is well on your end!
Well.... I finally got me a sheraton haha. I find that you have more of a bluesy sound than mine. Big difference actually. I'm wondering why??? I'm guessing it could be a number of things... pickups, amp, effects??? I still have stock pickups in mine which I'm looking to change them soon. I'm playing through a JCM800 and I'm guessing you're playing through a fender? Am I right?
@rainy78 Hi there. Well I think it has a lot to do with the stock Pickups, they are ok, but not great! An you can say that the JCM800 is not exactly a blues amp! If you want something simular to my sound, you should change the PU's to Gibson P94's and then buy yourself a Fender combo amp like a Blues Deluxe or like mine the bigger brother Blues DeVille, and I will promise you a bluesy sound!! In this clip I don't use any effects, just a little reverb from the amp. And it shure as hell is bluesy!
Wow!! Michael I really love this. It sounds so awesome. I wanted to ask you a few questions. First, how would you compare your Sheraton to your Gibson as far as sound goes? Would you say they were even or one better then the other? Also, what equipment or amp are you using that gives that nice back beat that your playing too? I also like that fact that you have many guitars. Each one has their own uniqueness about them. Anyways, I loved your playing, I would love to jam with you someday! Cheers!
Very Wonderful & Brilliant Blues Guitar Playing On Your Epiphone Sheraton Guitar, Michael!! I Hear Some B.B.King Playing In Your Ya Playing, Bro!! Keep Up The Fantastic Job, Man!! A Big Thumbs Up For Fantastic Playing Performance!!
@Zangoose69 Well kindda... But ofcourse the LP has more lowend due to the solid body structure.. But I guiss that you cold get pretty close... You can check my Tokai LP videos out.. It has the P 94's as well!! Cheers Michael
hey man, sounds really great! just F*cking awsome! i was inspired by this video (and by some others to ) but by this one the most and i have order the same guitar as you (epi sheraton 2). do you got tabs of this? it sounds really great, thanks for now. cheers from Holland
Hey I recently bought a Sheraton II from a friend that left to the states and I've notice that my Sheraton II have a Gibson truss-rod cover that came with it , now the question is are the humbukers Gibson? and if they are what kind are they? My friend told me hey bought it brabd new from a online store and It came like that and I know Epiphone and Gibson go hand to hand, but I really have no Idea what humbukers are they Gibs or epi stocks,
Inside the F hole there should be a sticker with a model and serial number on it there are places available online (just google them) where you can enter the serial number and it'll tell you about the guitar. Best way to know is next time you change the strings just pop out the pickups and flip them over they usually have info on the backside.
I'd like to see a video of you jammin with some distortion on that sheraton 2 ;) Can you do that for me?
Also... side by side, do you think the sheraton 2 comes close to the real mccoy gibson ES-335? I've read that some people prefer the sheraton 2 over their gibson ES-335 because it sounds just as good with new pickups and it looks better. What do u think?
Most players go for the gibson 57 classic pickup change on their sheratons but there's no doubt in my mind the P94's sound way better!!!
Singlecoil pickups just sound better than humbuckers.. Period!! There is 2 other videos on my channel with the Sheraton with more distortion, so check my channel!! I must say I would take the ES 335 over the sheraton any day, but the sheraton is really great for the money!!! Cheers Michael
P94's are a great match for that guitar! The sound is amazing! I'm thinking about buying that exact sheraton in the near future. I see that you have quite a few guitars in the backround... how would you rate that sheraton 2 copared to other high end guitars???
Hello Rainy. The Sheraton is the best buy if you want a 335'ish guitar without having to spend a fortune! The crafmanship is great, the neck is very nice to play. The stock pickups are ok (again for the money) and it will not cost you that much changing them to Gibsons or Seymour Duncans! When this is said, I must say there is no comparrison to the the real deal. The Gibson 335 cost about 3 or 4 times as much and ofcourse there is a reason for that! I recently got a 335 and I just sold the Epi!
Well I don't know your paticular model, but the P 94 has more treble than a normal humbucker... It's a bit like a mix of a singlecoil and a humbucker but with more midrange!! I had a P 94 pickup in a Tokai Les Paul neck position and it could sound a bit like a Strat but with more bite!!! It's hard to say if you could get a santana or mayer like sound out of it, but they sure sound good!!! Cheers Michael
Wow! Nice playing. Have this guitar and absolutely love playing it. The neck is the best one I've ever found and fits me like a glove. Even against 3000-3500 dollar Gibson's I preferred this guitar but I'm sure people would say that's crazy.
how much did this go for? I play lefty and righty and all expect for one of my lefties was built that way. I have the right handed version of this and it was somwhere around 600. I figured the lefty one would have rung up a bit more change such as it has done in the past
Awesome playing man. Have the same axe as you, except mines red and white, lefty package I believe. Since I play left handed, It's hard to find decent lefty axes out there.
Are you a born lefty or did you practice that way? I was born left handed and thus I had to find me a good axe to start with. I got a 500.00 lefty Flying V ( a rare one ) at a store in Seattle Washington when I was fourteen.
I am 100% lefty.. lefthanded, leftfooted hearing better on my left ear and my left eye is slightly better than the right! So I must say I am a born lefty!!!
wowow... I am looking to buy a Sheraton ii in the next month or so and was considering an upgrade with the p94's. This has only solidified my thoughts on what to do. Great jam!
does anyone know how the p94 compares to the p90??? i want that old p90 tone you hear on classic blues like Little Walter but p90s wont fit in my Epi-Broadway, but p94s will
Smooth stuff man! How do you think these would sound in the neck position of a strat? Thinking of fattening up the tone of the neck pup, but want to keep it single coil, u recon it would do the job for a fatter/jazzier sound?
It would fatter for sure!!! I have these pickups inslalled in my Tokai Les Paul Copy in it can in fact produce a Strat like tone in the neck position.. I don't really know how they would sound on a Strat , but i'm sure if you're seeking a fatter jazzy tone, they could be the answer.. Thanks for the good wipes!! Michael
Super bluesy playing man...Cool vibrato and bends...subtle yet evident...how much distortion can p-94's provide though? can one play any metal songs with them? just curious thanks...
thanks for posting the clean sound of these. Just bought a Dot with a killer neck. What a deal. I'm going to put P94s in it. thanks for not shreding so we can hear how they sound.
I'm planning on buying a Sheraton or a Dot, both Epiphone, but I'm not going to settle for the standard issue humbuckers.
After seeing and hearing you play the P94's, I really got enthousiastic. It's a shame that I can't try them out myself, without having to buy them straight away. Therefor I was wundering: How do these P94's behave when turned up the gain and playing chords instaid of doing a solo?
I would be most thankfull if you could help me with this.
I would say, that the P94 pickups are also a awesome chord pickup! They are ofcourse more midrange sounding than the traditional humbucking pickups! When you turn up the gain you'll get more of a classic rock/bluesy tone and not a heavy metal tone! If you put P94's on a Dot or a Sheraton, it will loose som fatness but gain some midrange and top!
The P94 is a singlecoil pickup so you will also get a little hum from the neck and the bridge position , just like a Strat!! Michael
Thanks for answering! here in Mexico it's kind of difficult getting those kind of things too, so I will order it through internet, I just wanted to know it was a good idea. I'm getting kind of bored of playing alone, so I guess I will get also a loop sation or something like that to play with a backing track, just like you do, thanks for the idea! Regards! Luis
That's funny, cause that was my plan with my Sheraton too:-)!!! But here in Denmark it's very hard to find a lefty Bigsby in Gold, so I dropped it!!! And I am getting very happy with the stop tailpiece now... But I would say, if you can get a Bigsby and get it installed proffesionally, it would make a KILLER guitar!!! Cheers Michael
HI again, and thanks again for posting! I quite like watching your playing. I'm seriously thinking about buying a couple of those P-94 pick-ups for my sheraton too. I also would like to install a bigsby on it, what do you think about it? do you think it would be a good idea? Once again thanks for playing!
Damn, those pu's sound really nice!! If I'd buy a Sheraton, I might replace them with these!

Hi Michael,
THank for replying on such short notice and for explaining!!
I like to play a wide range, starting with the Stereophonics, Oasis, ZZ top, Placebo etc. NO metal or H-Rock.
Now I know that a lot of effects are responsible for a bands sound, but I think it all starts out with a good guitare and amp followed by the effects.
Could you give me an advice regarding wich humbuckers or so you would put in to get that fatness though?
Thank you again,
