  • The U.S. Attorney's office when launching the Greylord investigation mulled over where the nost corrupt place in the United States was at that time. They decided it was Cook County, Illnois. Chicago. Is it a surprise that the cops would use Gestapo tactics as well?

  • Apparently at 0:29 where "Mr Daley (Chicago mayor) is not pleased with Senator Ribicoff" he's actually saying “Fuck you, you Jew son of a bitch! You lousy motherfucker! Go home!”.

  • @nocturnezero not exactly. However, a prof of mine in college expressed regret for throwing pig and human waste at the London police at a peace rally in England in the early 70s. I kinda did a stretch and assumed that also happened to soldiers and police in the usa

  • FUCK THE POLICE!

  • I can see the headlines now

Republican Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated

    Democrats take to the streets

  • @zachboi13 MLK, who said the highest order of human society lay in the synthesis of Capitalism and Communism?

  • @nocturnezero From 1854 to until very early 70s, African Americans were mainly Republican due to it being the anti-slavery and pro-liberty party. Democrats have been the 4 S party: Slavery, succession, segregation and now socialist.

Black people, who were only 12.9% of the population received 39.8% of all federal and state social program funding in 2009. Democrats promote social programs and so the Democrats sort of bribe black people into voting for them.

  • @zachboi13 Most of that sounds more or less accurate, but meaningless. MLK was still anti-war and, evidenced by that quote, something of a socialist.

  • @nocturnezero WTF are you talking about? communism, socialism, neither are free societies, MLK was a Minister, a capitalist, a Republican and a Constitutionalist

  • @zachboi13 Then why did he say that "the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism but in a higher synthesis."

  • @nocturnezero That not only means communism will not create equality, any system that opposes capitalism will not either. He is a minister so he is a bit cryptic about the higher synthesis, but I believe he elaborated his definition of "higher synthesis" after that statement.

So I still don't understand what your point is

  • @zachboi13 "...raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I'm simply saying that more and more, we've got to begin to ask questions about the whole society... "

My point is that you called him a Republican when he hardly subscribed to their main principles.

  • @zachboi13 I mean, he was probably a member of the party, I forget, but the point that is demonstrated in saying he was a Republican doesn't illustrate the full extent of his views, which were anticapitalist and antiwar.

  • @nocturnezero "the kingdom of brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism..."

"...Neither the thesis of communism nor the antithesis of capitalism..."

    "...Nor the antithesis of capitalism..."

antithesis of capitalism means a system opposing capitalism

you are wrong, face the truth, I even used your own evidence

  • @zachboi13 He was referring to the dialectical concept of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis - Capitalism being the antithesis, apparently, posed against more egalitarian systems. Saying otherwise would be redundant, and brings to mind the question of the synthesis of what and what he was speaking of, along with demanding an explanation of why he's opposed capitalism in other quotes that I've cited here.

  • @zachboi13 Even from that speech, he was saying that "Capitalism forgest that life is social, Communism forgets that life is individual... the kingdom of brotherhood is found in a higher synthesis that combined the truths of both." It's pretty clear what he meant.

  • @zachboi13 --It was when Roosevelt took office in 1930s that blacks started going more Democrat. U ought to look up the definition of socialism. Repubs love to throw that word around. Under Reagan, and then Bush Jr, Repubs succeeded in not shrinking the size of governmnet (it expanded under both), but in deregulating. Hence, the savigns and loan crisis in the 1980s, which cost undreds of billions, and the Wall Street/banki crisis that started a few yrs ago, which will cost over a trillion. Great

  • Chicago police may have overreacted and behaved badly, but those radical anarchists were far worse

  • @loyaldude10 I have seen a film of the Chicago police attacking innocent men and women sitting in lawn chairs listening to a speech in Grant Park. It was a police riot. They weren't all anarchists, but they didn't do the anti-war cause any good.

  • @loyaldude10 So the repression of freedom of speech is justified?

  • @leninisttrotskyite ---of course not. You didnt have people merely rexercising their right to free speech peacefully. Many of these people were set on disrupting the convention. They threw balloons filled with urine at the police, among other things. Dailey was too much of a hardliner and the police didnt have to be so violent, but what brought it on? Try exercising any demonstration of free speech in one of your Communist countries. Reember Tianamen Sq in China in 1989? No one died in Chicago.

  • @loyaldude10 How do you know that they were all anarchists? Were they allied with an anarchist group or under an anarchist banner? I don't see a single black flag in that crowd.

  • @nocturnezero ---their behavior signified anarchy. They went way too far in their protests. Of course not all were anarchists---many were there to rightly protest the Vietnamn war. But nothing excuses some of the bad behavior.

  • What a year that was I was 13 it was nothing but bad news all year...but Apollo 8 on Christmas Eve ( I think) was pretty cool.

  • assassinations have consequences

  • I could never figure out why anti-war protesters didn't also picket the Republican convention in Miami in 1968.

  • @brushcreek42 That's simple,in that era it was the Democrats that had escaladed the Viet Nam war.Nam was the Democrats war.The was a big gulf between the Reps and the Dems back then, not at all like today where you can't tell the players without a scorecard.

  • @DPurpleIV I agree, but the Republicans were far more conservative and just as likely to continue the war. Nixon kept saying he had a plan to end the war, but he lied like a rug. I naively voted for Nixon in 1968 believing he really wanted to end the war.

  • @brushcreek42 It's easy to see that this long after the fact, but in those times it was LBJ and the Dems. That was my point.Nixon in fact did end the war,it just took two terms to do it.:)

  • @DPurpleIV Nixon never wanted to end the war; he ended it because the public and the media were so heavily against it he had to bring it to an end. The war couldn't go on forever. Nixon was an extremely intelligent man; but he was pointed in the wrong direction and brought about his own demise.

  • @brushcreek42 he was paranoid too.

  • @brushcreek42 Nixon didn't exactly end the war, he just moved the bombing over to Cambodia and Laos instead of the two Vietnams.

  • @brushcreek42 -well...he did have a plan, but that was to escalate the war and attempt to bring NVNM to the peace table and get better terms. Didnt quite work though

  • @DPurpleIV --Repubs certainly supported the escalation. Many wanted to escalate more than JOhnson did.

  • @loyaldude10 The sitting commander in Chief escalated the war. That's how the public saw it then, and how history basically looks at it.It was "funny" when Robert McNamara disavowed the war after being the architect and selling it to Johnson, leaving LBJ holding the bag.Of COURSE there were many on both sides of the aisle that supported it,just as Hillary and John Kerry supported invading Iraq. But it was still Bush's war.

  • @wwahc1964 --not quite the same. LBJ may have paid the ultimate price--having to withdraw from Pres race in 68, but Godwater, Nixon and other conservatives talked about nuking VNM. With Iraqi war---country was still shellshocked after 9/11, Bush manipulated and lied about intelligence reports (some say he wanted to get Saddam due to assassination attempt against Bush Sr). Dems didnt have the guts to stand up and ask questions, so they voted along. Country is much more conservative now

  • @loyaldude10 Not true. Many dems, including the above mentioned called for an invasion during Clinton's administration.Nixon was presidnet, but he didn't nuke NVN.The intelligence from many of the major intelligence agencies said Saddam was armed, and it came out after the invasion that Saddam had lied to keep the illusion Iraq had a program, not believing Bush would invade.LBJ didn't have to withdraw,he chose to.I'm guessing you weren't born then,no offense meant.

  • @wwahc1964 --calling for an invasion while a member of Congress and talking tough to the masses is quite different than being Pres and actually doing it. Bush's speech about British govt learning that Iraq attempted to buy "yellowcake" from Niger was totally manipulative, as this report was known to be false then. LBJ withdrew becuase he knew, after close call in NH primary, with obscure Sen Mccarthy) that he would have been defeated. People were clamoring for RFK to get in race back then.

  • @brushcreek42 Vietnam was, to that point, a Democratic war - started by Kennedy, led by Johnson.

  • @nocturnezero Eisenhower was sending military aid to the French from 1953 till 1954 when the French pulled out. In Jan., 1955 the first direct shipment of military goods were sent to the new Diem government from the US. In Oct., 1955 Eisenhower pledged his support of the Diem government and offered more military aid. In May, 1961 Kennedy sent in his first Green Beret "special advisors". I wouldn't say the war was started by the Democrats, they were the first to send US troops.

  • he said fucker not faker

  • Fuck Daley and his asshole son!

  • and now back to liberal tide

  • i lived in chicago during that time...what chaos i ask???

  • if you're coming to chicago,wear a helmet.

  • My goodness that Convention was a freaking Train Wreck. No wonder the Dems lost.

  • @waveali It wasn't just a trainwreck. You have to add the plane crashing into the trainwreck, and then a bird flying over and taking a shit on it. THAT describes the 1968 convention.

  • Ribicoff was an idiot. He said that McGovern would abolish the National Guard. He basically supported ridding the states of there defenses and leaving us at the mercy of the Soviets (whose Red Army knew no mercy). That part on abolishing the guard is in the speech just cut from the video. Simply put McGovern was an idiot and so was Ribicoff. No wonder Daley told the little SOB to go home.

  • You can't stop a liberal administration (LBJ's was the hugest in terms of welfare spending and govt waste) from sending poor kids off to die in a moronic, insane, meaningless war by embracing the tactics of anarchism and playing stupid pranks and attacking average, working class policemen, who are just doing their jobs. That will backfire sure as shit, and it will help elect someone that's even worse (Nixon) that will wiretap your phones and encourage mob violence. War didn't end til 1975.

  • @ebonics4everyone Wait, the liberal government embraced tactics of anarchism and attacked policemen while protesting itself?

Your sentence might be a little fucked up.

  • @dlaz0109 I just have to make sure--you ARE being ironic, right?

  • The abortion of democracy.

  • The beginning of the end of the Roosevelt-influenced Democratic party. It's still a freak show, but all the soul and humor are gone. Where are the anti-war types now, when we really need them? I watched every minute of this convention on CBS. I hope that Daley is in Hell.......

  • "Surely we have learned the lesson that violence breeds counter-violence...."

    Apparently not.

  • 1968 was probably the most chaotic year in modern American history.

  • @Willredd94 True indeed. Wonder what 2012 is going to like.

  • There are longhaired dudes today that are bikers and into metal and hard rock, but there are NO hippies today. Today, if a butthole hocked a loogie or threw a bucket of human waste on a crippled vet coming off the plane from Afghanistan, the faggot would be doused in gasoline and set on fire. All would be aquitted.

  • @ebonics4everyone No one needs to throw human waste on crippled vets. Today they do far worse- these spineless, cowardly chickenhawks vote for politicians who want to cut funding for the V.A. and other military benefits.

  • @rayjr62 I'm the last person on earth that would vote Republican. Go bark up another tree.

  • @ebonics4everyone Are there any examples of human waste being thrown on a crippled veteran by an antiwar protester? I've certainly never heard of that.

  • @nocturnezero yea, a shit load of armed forces who were killed have been thrown into landfills wrapped in flags during our middle eastern engagements from 2010-2011

  • @zachboi13 By antiwar protesters? How did protesters get their hands on the body of a dead vet?

  • Mayor Daley represented the majority of Democrats, before the fags took over the party. FDR would have gassed those socialist bums. Truman would have nuked them. America went Republican, because these hippie cocksuckers and all their rioting nigger pals took over the Democratic Party.

  • @ebonics4everyone And you know nothing.

  • We have and stop calling me Shirley

  • @BeatleStone "won't you please come to Charlotte" just doesn't have the same ring to it that CSNY had in the spring of '68

  • I supported HHH back in the day. Loved him then love him now. He was my kind of politician, hated confrontation but was fearless in the prosecution of his beliefs.

  • Liberals has taken over the democrat party, and GOP have been in white house for the following 20, out of 24 years. Liberals might also taken control of GOP when Bush was elected.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't need to understand your wild chicken little hysterical fits,or as you like to call them "Hyperbole".Only an emotionally fueled simpleton dreams about any type of violence fueled political movement, and only a stooge would speak about actual events in "Hyperbole". But then again your crappy ass taste in music displays your true self, just like I called it,a passive-aggressive, parasitic,self-loathing fuck who sits around playing crappy metal music and daydreaming about political violence

  • @greentexian I must say your ability to formulate an argument is uncanny. Have a few more beers, you're on a role.

  • @DefenceSpeech My ability to rape your stupid ass in the strictest biblical sense is only exceeded by the immense gaping vacant hole you call an intellect.

  • This was the worst riot in Chicago's history! I was only 7 and a little kid when all this was going on!(I'm from Chicago, BTW)

  • PIGS!

  • A guy that worked for my family since the late 40's had awesome pictures of these riots when he was a detective. He was busting these people and had a huge bag of weed from the guy outside of old Comisky park lol.

  • Seeing all those white people together makes me sick! Thank God that most who go to these conventions now are transgendered, homosexuals, and minorities.

  • @DefenceSpeech?Defense SPeech? You need to change your name to

"HateWhiteySpeech" This is exactly the kind of attitude that helps the plutocratic elite keep us all fighting with each other instead of paying attention to whats really going wrong. How does it feel to be a willing tool for the establishment? Homosexuals are white, transgendered people are white, so really your whole"I hate whitey!"speech is a hypocritical stance that helps no one but the people behind the scenes pulling the strings

  • @greentexian Thank you. Exactly my thoughts. We should be over these now petty concerns of race, sexuality, and other such politics based on identity, we had to take care of them first so we can ALL fight together towards the real problem, coporate and power elite encroachment on our lives because we need ALL of us of whatever race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, whatever to do that!

  • @DefenceSpeech you sound like a stupid idiot saying that, just thought you should know.

  • @unfortunatebeam Your comment is dumb, dumb, really dumb. How many generations have to face the reality that their Marxist revolution is never going to happen?

  • @DefenceSpeech *palms face* No one wants a Marxist revolution you ridiculous knee-jerk reactionary asshat, so shove your wanna-be McCarthyism up your ass you silly plutocratic sycophant. People like you who capitulate to the uber wealthy salivate like pavlov's dog when they hear the word "leftist" it's like you people are too fucking dense to see any shade of grey what so ever, hence you must be dealt with like any other simple minded, passive aggressive vermin and exposed to the light of day.

  • @greentexian You must learn to understand hyperbole. The left today are guilty, just as many on the so called right have been in destroying the U.S.

Is there a common enemy across the lines? Definitely. However the ends which both sides desire to achieve are diametrically opposed. The power structures that exist will never come toppling down like all of the pot smoking hippies thought it would back in '68, just as the even dumber offspring they managed to bare think it will today.

  • @DefenceSpeech dumb dumb dumb, do you know any other words? lol makes me wonder why dumb should be so prominent on your so-called "conscious" mind all the time...perhaps because there's an example of it not too far from home...

Both sides? So as in just deux? There are more sides to it than that, if you can't understand that much than you must not get much at all. The thing is, you agreed yourself, there is a common enemy, one side against all the other sides.

  • @unfortunatebeam No, dumb is a fitting word for most of those commenting on this video, and I find it useful to overemphasize it's importance in hopes that it will sink in to your deteriorated minds.

There are common goals amongst all political movements, this does not mean that they're unified in any significant way.

  • @DefenceSpeech marxist revolution? who the fuck is talking about a marxist revolution? Bite your tongue, little buddy.

  • this is from when white guys would have took a nightstick to the teeth for court ordered affirmative action

  • I think most of thsi footage was from the evening of August 28th, which was not only the night that Humphrey was nominated, but the night that violence outside the convention hall reached its peak.

Mr. Humphrey's acceptance speech was the next (and final) night of the convention, the 29th.

FYI, the news commentator whose voice appears after Abe Ribicoff's speech was NBC's Chet Huntley.

  • @altfactor Didnt the father Richard Daley curse Abe Ribicoff?

  • "Violence breeds counter violence"--he knocked that from RFK's "Mindless Menace of Violence" speech.

  • 68/4/69

  • Wow. Democrats are just so fucked up. Something is clearly wrong with their brains.

  • @FasterThanYou321 Yeah, they were as fucked up as the Republicans. Still are. Though in recent years I give the GOP a slight edge.

  • @Terri1B: If you're assuming the GOP started the violence of 1968 DNC or contributed to it you are mistaken. The Democratic party was a more moderate party back then and by moderate I mean the conservative faction of the party (Blue dogs). The riots at the convention were caused by the Vietnam war and the rift it caused with the conservative democrats who later left the party after the more liberal factions (a product of the protesters and their organizations) took over the party after 1968.

  • No doubt started by the GOP just like today...

  • And so it came to pass...Richard Nixon was elected and there began the devolvement of our once-beloved American political institution.

  • For the record those aren't Gestapo style tactics. Nobody was shot en masse and those tactics don't belong soley to the Gestapo. They've been used in other riots by the police.

  • This wan't a riot. It looks more like a battle.

  • FUCK DALEY!

  • @trh2130 Daley gave all us Irish micks a bad name. But on the other hand if a bunch of rich kids and career criminals joined hands and started throwing molotov cocktails at the local cops, I'd probably kick the shit out of them myself.

  • Interesting that the most lawless convention was a Democrat one. How true commiecrats want anarchy and rioting, "peaceful demonstrations" with violence, in the streets. We will when the global bankruptcy occurs. We will become Greece.

  • right about now, right about now it time to...KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHA FUCKA ..lol love it

  • The last real American revolutionaries. Now we live in soul-less corporate times where politicized gov't, draconian laws, and media corruption keep us from any true democracy. The CIA murdered JFK, RFK & MLK, then the drug-fueled left went too far in order to keep from being sent into the Vietnam meat-grinder that was being used by the government to hide the fact they had done a coup d'etat in their assassinations. They put themselves in permanent dark power when they assassinated Lennon.

  • jesus man u rlly need to cool it on the conspiricy theories

  • Geesh you really need to give a credible reply...

  • Time for you to leave the USA. Go now and never come back. Who the hell wants people like you in our country.

  • Ah ha ha! The old hard hat "love it or leave it" died with Vietnam. What is it I wrote that spurred your fascist instinct? It's amazing how stupid some Americans are and what a simple-minded concept they have of America. They don't understand that their jingo patriotism is no different than that of the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. They don't recognize American Democracy when they see it. Stupid pigs.

  • You believe that the CIA killed JFK, RFK, MLK and Lennon and you're calling me stupid? What died with Vietnam was the attitude of people like you. You're old hat and out of style! Keep up your attitude and you'll continue to be on the losing side of every political issue. You must enjoy being a loser, cause that's what you are.

  • If you are backing the Warren Commission and its corrupt cover-up of the Kennedy Assassination you have finished yourself off in public. I need not do any work in that regard - you've done it all. I suggest you read James DiEugenio's evidence on his 'Probe' internet magazine site. Only true losers back dirty governments that do CIA murders of presidents. (And cowards) Oswald was CIA.

  • Mark David Chapman was a typical isolated psychologically-vulnerable target for CIA mind control. He attended YMCA based groups that were classic CIA recruiting grounds. He was sent to Beruit under notorious CIA recruiters "World Vision Charities" who had John Hinckley Sr on its board. He then worked with Vietnamese refugees under them. Chapman was a classic MKULTRA Manchurian Candidate. Lennon threatened CIA Latin Am. ops.

  • Why don't people like you use facts instead of fantasies to form your beliefs. Keep spewing your venom- you have no support. Good Bye.

  • He says while my entries have facts and his have nothing but the usual ad hominem used against truth tellers. You have good reason to leave now...

  • All DEMOCRATES Are filty scum of the earth. Obama get out this country.

  • This was a brutal year for the country. 1968 was the year that the country's path to recession and civic dysfunction effectively crystallized. If you lived in a large city in America, that was the year to move out and not return until, say, 1984.

  • pigs

  • The police were attempting to deal in good faith with a riot. The criminal-coddling leftwing Democrats referred to the police as "gestapo." People realized that Democrats were a danger to our society and elected the Republicans.

  • Democrats = Republicans.

  • Civil Rights ushered in Republican dominance. Racist southerners never forgave the Democratic party.

  • now all these crazies run our schools

  • Beating up hippies! LOL

  • if humphrey would have won we would still have been in vietnam no wonder humphrey got beat in 68

  • i dont know who that senator was but i was superized that mayor daliey of chicago did not order 20 to 30 officers to beat nim up with billy clubs

  • sir945, that was Abraham Ribicoff of CT. The only Jewish Governor CT has ever had.

  • The police were attempting to control a riot orchestrated by lawbreakers, and Ribicoff called the police gestapo. I am glad that Connecticut has not had any more liberal leftwing criminal-coddling governors like Ribicoff.

  • You wouldn't know what left-wing was if you saw it ,you fascist! If you think the Democratic Party in America is left-wing then you need to read - a lot!

  • By the same token, anyone who thinks the police in this country are "gestapo" has never seen the real thing.

  • Last I checked it was the Republican that had shot itself in the foot. Less and less can you even call it a political party.

  • Another example of how Democrats shoot themselves in the foot...same thing is happening again. Dems had better wake up, 2010 elections are coming up and people are getting angry about Obama. His poll numbers are tanking.

  • I agree hoosierlooker. The question is which path does President Obama and the national Democratic Party follow? The path of the blue dogs? Or another path?

  • they are tanking fast too! dems are slated to lose big time in 2010 94 all over again. we need the divisiveness as no party should ever have complete control ever! the slower government moves the better!

  • Would you have beeen saying this in 2000 when the republicans "won" the white house, and won both houses of congress?

  • Yes. They are both same. And yes Bush did win as the Liberal New York Times counted the ballots twice. The dems were going to "keep counting" until they won like what they with Al Franken. Acorn=Stolen Elections.

  • US = NAZI POLICE STATE

  • Thats chicago politics

  • we're learning about this in U.S. history...just wanted to check it out...
