He (or she) is self-annointing. They do that often with new smelling items. He's licking the ball, then licking himself. No one is sure why they do that....

no, they don't because they are not rodents. they have virtually no smell, maybe the reason why the person thought hedgehogs smelled was because the cage wasn't cleaned often enough?

google hedgehog breeders in your area or state, n some states hedgies are illegal. Highly suggest you get it from a breeder and not a pet store. Breeders know hedgehogs, they have a records of parents and grand parents. This is useful because hedgehogs suffer from Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome, which is believed to be hereditary. So most likely they wont breed the hedgehog that has the disease. They can tell u how to better treat it and give better advise.
