@bigpotplant Underrated because they were one of the first groups ever to have an openly gay guy as the front man. We weren't ready for a gay friendly band, even in the early 90s. And we still aren't. In Europe they were popular though. We Americans have this phenomenon known mostly to us called the Religious Right. Ugh. Most Europeans dont have a problem with gays. We are way behind.

This album though came out right around the time that the category of "alternative" music was co-opted and rebranded by the big corporate labels and the newly consolidating radio networks as a way to market Grunge bands. Erasure & other electronic bands were not part of the marketing plan. But yes homophobia did hurt their US success.
