US intervention in Libya means means money from oil, but also from the various other industries (arms, contractors, banks, etc). Oil is the obvious one but that's just scratching the surface. America's looking for an endless source of conflict and Libya is a prospect.
AWAX also has Electro Magnetic Pulse capability and can drop any plane anywhere, at any time. It can turn negative charges into positive charges and the plane just falls out of the sky. Gaddafi is not going anywhere and I'm certain that is the message they are giving him. Anyone who thinks the USA needs Libya's oil is buying a used turd. America is only interested in saving lives, lives that are worth saving, lives that are precious, lives that count. Don't be stupid, they're worth saving.
@MYouSSofsaLahElDIn South Korea would not agree with you and given what happened to the people of Vietnam when we left, under the Khmer Rouge. They may not agree with you? Northern Iraq would not agree with you, Afghanistan actually wants us to stay, Pakistan could kick us out at any time, yet they don't. Yemen ? @nucsol Lol. Your deluded. Nobody likes America. You only think they do because you live in a media bubble. People in Libya dont like America, infact they dont want your "Humanitarian Aid" dropped on their cities. Alot of Libyans are happy with gaddafi, and dont want him to be replaced with a corporate puppet who will sell all their oil wealth to other nations.
@nucsol don't listen to them man...there's lots of positive things about the USA. Lots of bad things....but also lots of positive things as well. Peace and light from Malta.
@MrSpanky87 I do not listen to them. Life is precious, people are the most precious resource and Libya has given all for its due process. I am white, blue eyed, blonde hair and very American. I have served my country with honor and I was involved in the first strike on Libya and we all felt then that the job should have been done right but the Cold War was the priority. Libya can lead the great nation of Africa and it is very important that we show her how and give her the tools for success.
Well the current actions of the rebels in taking the UK envoys hostage, the rebs just shot themselves in the foot...the Libyans are a bunch of idiots.
I'm not surprised, they've been defeated by chadians and Tanzanians in battle which shows how retarded they are.
They deserve qaddafi, this coming from a former supporter of the rebels.
@Bander1 And you know this how? The Libyans are idiots? retarded? they deserve Gaddafi? Are you aware of how silly you sound - the ppl on the ground are a mixture of ppl - some military basic training and some just ppl out of their homes to fight. Give them a break, if you're such a giant military strategist get on a plane man and go help otherwise just try and show some decency please!
this ex-prime minister was the one nicknamed zero by the opposition at the time as he went into power without getting a single vote, he is also the prime minister that messed up a hijacking hostage situation
so the fact that he is an ex-prime minister doesn't mean squat, plus you don't have to be an ex-prime minister to have these queries bubbling in ones head
On the other hand, no one speaks of the humanitarian efforts which are underway!
Then why has Sky News from the UK announced this evening that the British clowns who botched the operation in Libya “RETURNED TO THEIR BASE IN MALTA”?
Sky has also reported there were no diplomats among the party only two MI6 agents and six SAS operatives!
What to say about when in the 1970s Libya sent war ships to stoop Malta from drilling for oil in Maltese teritorial waters. We have the right to drill for oil in our own territory. Libya did nt wanted us to drill for oil Why???? From the other hand USA and Britain always defendet our country and builded our country infrastructure.
America has plenty of oil if only we could repeal environmental laws! We have to decide on extinction of insects or people! When we start drilling and exploring we will find all the oil we need. But we do need to investigate what oil companies really pay for the oil they are refining! They are not paying $100 a barrel. They price gas on futures price, which is a speculation price.
If the USA moves in to intervene with this situation, that is my proof that oil is running out and the oil recources are getting more and more important... Message to all people: Stop being so dependent on oil. Use your car less, buy local products and grow your own food if possible.
I think Malta is making the right choice, I don't think declaring neutrality would hold any respect from the Islamic movement that is taking hold around North Africa. Poor old Malta is smack bang in the middle. The question they must be asking itself is "do we want to become another potential Istanbul?"
If this was the start of a Islamic movement to reinstate a caliphate, would it really look any different to western eyes? We hope for democracy, but really things are on a knife edge.
Another thing I wanted to add but had no char remaining : All that Mr.Mifsud Bonnici (the former prime minister) wanted to say is that wester countries are taking advantage. And I think he right. The thing is that its a delicate situation, we dont want to annoy Libya, we dont want to annoy US/UK either. How should we do that in your opinion ? We close Air/Sea Transit and refuse all aids for helping Libya ?
What Mr., Mifsud Bonnici is saying is absolutely absurd. He is the most unpopular ex prime minister malta ever had. He was a rather anti west prime minister who was placed in that posiiton without even tasking part in a general election and was never voted into parlament. He is refuted byu boths sides of parliament due to his anti western and anti democratic openions.

@muserfish -- Not sure if the question was to me but I agree with you. You don't need to annoy Libya unless you feel it is time for the Col. to step down. US/UK are both annoyed all the time anyway by this region dating back to the days of the Barbary Coast. lol
The US, while amazing in its drive for human rights and quality of life, is still a superpower that sometimes forgets that nationalistic identities of smaller nations are sovereign things, not guidelines. We’ve proven in the past that we are not afraid to run over these identities in the quest to feed our reliance on foreign oil.
And for the record- I’m an American of Maltese decent. My Grandfather was one of those who left Malta to come to the US and join the Army to defend both the US and Malta in WWII, so I understand very well both the American need for strategic positioning in the Med, but I also understand the former ambassador’s perspective.
Malta was independent longer than any nation in the area (Napoleon and beyond) and has a very proud history of self reliance an self defense. Malta was the most bombed place on earth in WWII, but if you check your history.. Maltese were part of the effort to defend their country, and then to rebuild and maintain self reliance after the West left and was propping up governments and economies in Germany and Japan.

@rhardwick2003 -- Very good points. 5 *'s. Malta is the only island with the distinction of being awarded the George Cross by Britton’s King Edward VI (highest civilian award given) for her bravery against the Nazi's. Of course it is also are home to the popular pooch.
Mr Spartans. I have no clue where youre from but I am from Malta and Malta is too small for one not to notice or come to hear of whats happening. I assure you there are no bloody armaments here to be used against Lybia. Fucks sake, Lybia is our friend, we totally do not want to get involved in this situation.
We only took part to the evacuations on a humanitarian level. Thats all.
Even if we wanted to fight, we would be probably annihilated by 99.9% of the World Countries.
@muserfish -- Yes, and I realize the importance of your homeland in this situation with Libya. I was directing my comment to your former Prime Minister who so quickly dismissed the west's intentions and virtue.
The Maltese understand their history (better than most of us in the US), and they understand the significance of their strategic Mediterranean position- and also understand, all too well, how enticing it is for a western superpower to try to move in and take advantage of it.
