A side note... polishing a coin doesn't make it look "mint". You are stripping the original surface and reducing if not destroying any collectibility value. For those who just HAVE to try this, do it with a junk pocket coin. But then that begs the question, if junk, why bother doing it at all? It does nothing except turn a junk coin into a shiny junk coin. So what? Oh, and the proper term is "uncirculated", not "mint". Bottom Line-no amount of cleaning will make a used coin a new coin again.
Thnx for the great tips. I forgot I had a dremel kit in my garage so I used it to clean my 1921D mercury dime with some polish...man, it came out nice!
i put mine on my stove till it was red hot, then i put it in vinegar to cool it down, it also took the dirt and the burnign right of.. and now im gunna polish it.. im so cheap XD
but why clean them? damn they are regular pennies, iv'e seen pennies come out of rolls that are absolutely dirty. so why in the hell clean pennies?????? you need a hobby my friend stop cleaning the coins and enjoy the outdoors
LMAO! I'm surprised the Lincoln design is still o there. The kid is a kid guys not a collector so don't be too harsh on him. If he was, I'm sure he would now what to do with coins. Besides, it's a penney not a Morgan or anything of that nature :)
This kid is an idiot and just ruined the coin if it were of any value. I'm a 25+ year coin dealer and cleaning coins will almost always reduce if not ruin their value. What this guy is doing is stripping the original surface of the coin, giving it hairline scratches and an unnatural appearance that essentially makes it uncollectible. DO NOT DO THIS TO ANY COLLECTIBLE COIN, EVER. EVER.
@firecanon7 OK, so if you admit that this makes them uncollectible then why even bother doing it? Because you want to see yourself online? A lot of people don't read the description and someone may ruin something valuable thinking that cleaning via your method is going to help it somehow. Vids like this do more harm than good.
@telephotousa why do you have to call the boy an idiot? I've learnt something useful here. After 25+ years of coin dealing you cannot possibly think of any reason why someone would want to clean a coin? Stick with it for another quarter century...
@thirashy If you call showing people how to damage potentially valuable coins "useful" then by all means have at it... it will just make original specimens more valuable as people blindly follow what's shown them on a random video by someone who knows very little about coins.
@telephotousa Im with you man, i learned this on pawnstars and your totally right!!! i only do it on quarters and pennies cause they look cool but hes not smart to do this... it also ruins the history of the coin
@eliden SImply put, there is no safe way to polish a coin, period. Any polishing agent contains abrasives and/or chemicals that will either physically or chemically strip the original surface of the coin. Thus, attempting to polish away hairlines only creates more/different hairlines and removes more of the coin's design in the process.
@nikebrad PLEASE DONT DO THISS PEOPLE IT COLORS ZYOUR COINS A RAAINBOIE COLOR!!1 IT LOOKeD GREAT FOR 2 DAYS THEN WHEN YOU LET THEM DRY THE GET COLORED!!!! DO NOT DO!!!
I found this video very helpful , and Thanks to Firecanon for the effort he put in, you wankers who slate people like this obviously have small dicks and cant get their kicks in the real world as they would constantly get their asses kicked.Keyboard hard men , dont you just love em !
I hate to give people a hard time. I understand your trying to help and it takes time and effort to make a video but you said 20 sec. That took you 4 min..... Worked good though....
@MUDSWAT the video i a tutorial so it will take longer than it actually takes to do the process. and you do not need to do all 12 coats just for extra procasion
LOL....just go to any hardware store or wallmart and buy some "Tarnex".....it will clean that coin i 1 second. What you are doing is like trying to scrub a floor with a tooth brush
Tarnex will strip layers off your coins the longer they soak. It will make your silver retarnish easier. It will make your coins or jewlery smell like death. Tarnex is evil....
to jakub426: yes...but.....cleaning a coin "kills" its collectors value. I can see if they were just circulated common bullion coins.....I have dip cleaned some really black 1964, circulated Kennedy halfs
Are you a chemistry student or did you just keep experimenting to come up with this? Interesting.
