Although civilization may never have been as advanced, magnetic reversals have occurred before, and solar activity probably has occurred during it. Even so, our magnetic field is still so strong, strong enough to repel the sun's plasma. If it weren't, life would have ended millions of years ago, and we wouldn't be here. So if it happens again, and that is IF (which it probably won't), the worst case scenario would be world wide auroras, GPS malfunctions, and some EMPs. We'll be fine, sheesh.

I'm sorry, I found this hilarious. Earth's been hit from solar activity for millions of years and there is an 11 year cycle of the sun. There is no way possible that the Mayans would scientifically verify an exact apocalypse. Just no way. Unless they could travel through time and come back, just no way. Secondly, galactic/planetary alignment, if it will happen, has no cause to "end the world", or universe. It's happened many times before in galactic history, and obviously life didn't end.

@ImperiumTrooper The Mayans worshipped the Sun for hundreds of years, id say that there is a good chance that the Mayans could predict Solar Maximums along with solar storms, and solar flares- so in that fasion they COULD "predict" as you put it "the apocalypse"

@DagonBlood27 Not at all , recently there has been alot of solar storms / solar flares (building up to solar maximum) and with our weakended Magnetosphere there is a good chance that All satalites will fall from the sky by the end of 2012 (Solar Maximum arrival) Solar storms have also been the reason for many of "natural" dissasters
