  • Great video, love the commentary!

  • @LMatters1 Thanks. Its easy to make great videos from great memories.

  • Gawd....I was on that trip. Fading memory here. Was this trip before or after the aborted 5629 trip to Bay City?

  • @stumblemouth Well, my memory for those kinds of details is also fading. I want to say after, but don't quote me on that.

  • I just want to cry, such a nice locomotive scrapped.

  • No need to cry. GTW 5632 is here to become the replica of 5629.

  • Awsome!

  • Why was this engine scrapped???

  • @Kleman09 Good question. Long story. Wrong place at the wrong time. Bad planning, worse communication. That's it in a nutshell.

  • @gothpapa so in other words she wasnt supposed to be scrapped, but was mistaken for an engine to be scrapped because of misscommunication? Did her looks aid the bad communication, and her location too?

  • @gothpapa Well, you got the location part right. Have no idea how you could have drawn any conclusions about her "looks" from what I said. Anyway, the internet is a great source of info on just about anything under the sun. Some of it is even accurate. So google richard jensen 5629. Read it and weep as they say.

  • Or google gtw 5632 steam locomotive.

  • Is that a 1968 Pontiac Tempest at 4:02 ?. My first car was a 68 Tempest. Same color. I was 15 in 1975. My mom gave the car to me. Said if I could fix it I could have it. Had it running the next day. Broken Timing chain.

  • That's petty cool that the GTW engine crew wanted to run the steamer.

  • I can not imagane them having the open gon at 60 mph.

  • Wow! I never knew she visited my hometown before.

  • Well, at least there's still GTW 5632.

  • It will become the replica of the 5629.

  • thanks for the contribution. I saw 5629 rotting away in Blue Island IL back in the 1980s, too bad it had to end the way it did.

  • whatever happened to the 5629?

  • see trainboy comment below.

  • If she wasn't scrapped in 1991 I bet she would still be operating

  • she was scrapped in 1987. guess it doesn't matter

  • Great classic footage & nicely edited! What kind of film was it shot on and how did you transfer it to video so cleanly?!

  • Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P. GTW 5629

  • GTW 5629 (GTW 5632) will come back from the scrapyard.

  • @amtraklover R.I.P. Dick Jensen 19??-1991.

  • Were the photos 35mm???????

  • Yes. Well, most were.

  • sucks that she was scrapped!

  • great stuff as usual
