I (personally) think there is some piece of humanity left in Alucard, albiet a small and pitiful one....Because, what 'real' monster cries tears in his sleep?
@232NarutoUzumaki The stake in his chest was to weaken him. Van Hellsing hit the stake to drive it further into his chest. Not to kill him, mind you, but to make him suffer for all the deeds he had done.
I think that he truly did love Mina, but given that he could not have her, this was turned into a violent jealousy - coupled with his already immense hatred for God - it led to his ultimate downfall.
This scene is a flashback sequence, hinting at Alucard's True identity.
Count Vlad Tepes II - Dracula, Prince of Wallachia - the Impaler. The Dragon. Also sometimes referred to as "Vampire King" - or "Drinker of blood".
@AnimeAspieFanatic Possibly. In the original Dracula, the count fell in love with Mina but, I'm not sure about it in Hellsing. In my head cannon I think he truly loved Mina and when she was taken away from him, he lost his interest in love and never wanted to feel such feelings anymore. That's what I think at least cause they never really go on about Alucard past or anything, maybe a little but, that's it. But, again it's possible.
He didn't really love Mina or in any case it certainly wasn't a mutual love. Most likely it was for vengeance/pleasure/having a way of knowing his enemies plans. It was basically a rape scene in the book. Though he claimed to be capable of love, Dracula is definately not a nice guy particularly in the novel. But of course I'm referring the book and not the series and we aren't talking 100% accuracy. If that was the case he wouldn't be around to have a series about him to begin with
@balrog13571 Dracula loved Mina because she reminded him so much Elizabeta. She was his wife when he was human, and it seems as though they truly loved one another. I think Dracula can love, but since he's a vampire his way of expressing it has become distorted to what we think.
No that's just the 1992 film that claims to be 100% true to the source yet deviates just as much from the book completely missing the point of the narrative. It's basically nothing more than a lesser version of the Dan Curtis film with elements of Beauty and the Beast (even going as far as to imitate styles and scenes from the Jean Cocteau film) and for me personally comes off as a silly and uneven film which can't make up it's mind what it wants to be.
@Kittyskywalker733 You also have to remember the long years that past in between the death of Dracula's first wife and then Mina. Dracula had become a monster after his wife's death and when he met Mina he tried to remember what it was like to be human.
@Feanorielle Because he has been bested by human cunningness? (As humans can never engage in direct combat with a vampire much less a vampire king no matter how well trained they are as a vampire hunter especially if you're old) Alucard respects him because of that fact (plus Abraham was able to bind Alucard as a slave which is the true defeat because Alucard was "brought down"
@oreonla D; I only have volume one, I haven't had enough money to buy the rest, I barley noticed my itouch corrected her name Harker* but now I must finish collecting the volumes I have to see the picture! Still would be swell to see her animated though they won't show her fully =D
@25002daniela Mina Harker, who is Jonathan Harker's wife. The three are connected because Jonathan is a hired lawyer of Dracula's too by estate in England.
@25002daniela Read the "Dracula" Novel, the Hellsing Anime is essentially a fanfiction where instead of being killed at the end Dracula is enslaved by the Hellsing family and reverses his name from D-R-A-C-U-L-A to
If Van Hellsing were to duel Anderson, I think Abraham'll die in less than a minute. He defeated Alucard (Dracula, really) by piling on him with three other men and staked him in the heart. The battle was not shown at all so everything else is speculation. Since he was overconfident even back then, Alucard probably underestimated the humans and they caught him off guard, in which Hellsing applied the seals on him to limit his power and make Alucard his servant. Just a guess anyway
@edwinsz But if Abraham won Alucard by "sneaking" and not by honestly being better than him in some way, then why would Alucard have said "Have I been bested....sir?" He clearly respects Abraham and consideres himself, well, bested. Besides, the novel by Bram Stoker isn't always in accordance with Hellsing canon. It exists as a work of fiction inside the Hellsing universe too, and apparently is a changed version of what really happened. So what are we NOT told about Abraham?
@AlienNext100 Alucard's abilities back then was probably much weaker. The Alucard seen later on was only that powerful after centuries of experiment and improvement.

Professor Abraham van Helsing is a protagonist from Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula. Van Helsing is a Dutch doctor with a wide range of interests and accomplishments, partly attested by the string of letters that follows his name: "M.D., D.Ph., D.Litt., etc." The character is best known as a vampire hunter, and the arch-enemy of Count Dracula.
Okay, in Bram Strokers Dracula, it isn't proven that Dracula dies BECAUSE if you've read the book, it states that when a vampire dies, the castle crumbles into ash, but his castle, is still standing, and it never had that it crumbled to dust in Bram Strokers Dracula. :D plz no hate.
I'm not exactly a big fan of anime/manga. I don't have anything against it exactly, but for some reason I never got into it as much as others. I AM however a fan of the original novel Dracula and even own around two dozen films or so about him (and seen many more). This clip alone is making me consider checking it out more. I understand it's different from he original Dracula and even the manga, but it still looks fun. But where to start? Manga or anime? OVA or TV verson? English or Japanese?
The body of the real Dracula is buried within the catacombs of a monastery raised by him, the monastery has more than 500 years old. I went to that monastery because i m from Romania and i saw that the entrance to the catacombs is sealed by a door of steel, like in Hellsing, and the guide told us that the seal cant be removed whitout the approve of the Patriarh ( The spiritual lider of our country), isn t that strange. I wanna see his bones or enter in the catacombs :))
@smallpersonx Well you can only see a possible silhouette of her and a small glimpse as well in vol. 10 of the manga. she is being shielded by one of lucy's suitors but they aren't very clear. she is supossed to have brown hair and hazel eyes too if you didn't know. :}
dracula is just a story from Bram Stoker but did you know that is no prof that Vlad the impaler is dead ........no bones....... no grave ......nothing ..........i am romanian and i've heard every side of the story and none of them wold say were Vlad died or were is he buried
@yuridiaprivado The OVAs did make some changes. Episodes 1 & 2 especially had a few differences and cut scenes, but all of them changing the timing of various scenes for dramatic effect. OVA 4 and the Major's speech is one large example.
Alucard is most certainly Count Vlad Tepes Dracula - the Vampire King himself. Defeated by Jonathon Harker, Quincey Morris, Arthur Holmwood and Dr. Abraham Van Hellsing.
The story of Hellsing differs from Stoker's novel - in that the Vampire King did not die, but was enslaved by the Van Hellsing family and used as a trump card against supernatural forces.
I wonder. Is there even a shred of Humanity left in him, as there was in the book?
@NicholasGeschke He showed mercy to give Seras another life b/c she struggled to survive Alucard's shot. She agreed to then be turned. If she denied him or told him no, then she would have surely died.
That's quite impressive considering they had to get past Dracula's millions of familiars. Any damame given to him goes to his souls instead meaning just four men had to kill that many to get to him directly.
Also take into consideration Alucard has not been eating too many souls after he was defeated by Abraham. In ova 8 he had nearly the same amount and an a holy crusade and a nazi vampire army could not stop him.
@nairda55555 its not necessarily that they kill all the souls alucard has and if they did that haven't you stopped to think that the souls of vlads army shouldn't be there?
I think that even when a familiar is "killed" they are simply incapacitated as alucard has lost the amount of blood given to them to take physical form. So the soul still exists inside him, but has lost its share of blood to give them life.
As Alexander Anderson pierced his heart with a thorned blade after impaling himself with helena's nail his familiars began to burn as he lost blood. But after he drank the blood of london they returned, every one.
@savage642 Abraham. The Hugh Jackass movie Van Helsing was a joke and should be ignored. The only reason I ever watched it was for the special effects, nothing more.
@LittleMadPyro i believe its an animation mistake. i remember reading it somewhere that the animators mixed up and drew the pentagram thingy on his glove
I wish the ending of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" had an emotional ending such as in Alucard's dream. In "Dracula", Quincey Morris and Jonathan Harker open Dracula's box, where he is sound asleep. Jonathan shears Dracula on the throat while Quincey stabs Dracula in the heart, causing the Count to crumble into dust. I feel that the ending of the novel would have been more intense if they protagonists had a conversation with the Count such as Abraham Van Helsing had with Alucard.
I was explaining Hellsing to my friend and when I told him that the Hellsing organization had been working on Alucard, he snapped and said that by "working" I ment geneticaly altering, as in Alucard being filthy, fake, labrat vampire. His words not mine. I've been trying to tell him that Alucard is still a genuine vampire, but he wont listen and he continues to knock Alucard. I come here to you with this story so I could tell him what you youtubers think. Is he the real deal, or a fake?
@metavash He's the real deal beneath the surface. When he releases Control Art Restriction Zero, he's basically back to his true roots, since the main modification deals with his ghouls and familiars.
@metavash His dogs would be the prime example. Bugs as well. Frankly though, I'm not sure if the process is any different from his regular ghouls, so I suppose you could call them all under one phrase.
@PureLionHeart from what i understand (and correct me if im wrong) is when vampires drink a live persons blood they absorb their essence (soul) and if they drink it all, that soul becomes a part of them. That's also partly why it's so hard to kill Alucard, if you kill him he has literally another million "lives." because of all the people blood he drank. And when his restrictions are released he can release the souls he absorbed to fight for him.
@metavash he is real he just as you said mental altering because if he didnt he would destoy every thing that he served and would cause a a horrific bloody disaster, after wards he would begin his search for mina/elizabeta again by ant means possible
@metavash he is real he just as you said mental altering because if he didnt he would destoy every thing that he served and would cause a a horrific bloody disaster, after wards he would begin his search for mina/elizabeta again by any means possible
@metavash Of course he's real. When he became a pet project all they did was add limits to his power to keep him from going berserk without permission. When he's given permission he can do all of the things he was already capable of doing before the limits were added. The real labrats are the other vampires who SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER were made from vampirism he gave Mina.
@metavash He is actually a bit like anderson in the Moddification side of things. Van Hellsing didnt leave him alone in the cell for 20 yrs. How else do u think they know so much plus he is blood bonded to the Hellsing Organisation.
@metavash No listen: Alucard is still the exact same way he was before. It's just that the generations of the Hellsing family placed on him divine restrictions to limit his power and keep him forever bound to the service of Hellsing. He wasn't in any way scientifically changed -> the exact same, but levels of his evil have been limited in accordance with divine restriction. Release of Restriction Zero releases his ultimate and pure form of power. He is at risk of losing Hellsing control then.
Van Hellsing DID experiment on him that was canon, yes he is dracula but he is also Hellsing's labrat for a century before being turned into an attack dog against other monsters.
@gato23 Actually he wasn't just a labrat, he was killing other monsters and vampires while he was a servant for the hellsings, he said: "The vampires I've been hunting for the last 100 years" since hellisng enslaved him a 100 years ago, also the fact that alucard was a lab rat is completely wrong, hellsing preformed experiments on him, natural expiremtents, not anything like gene altering, because as you've seen, alucard is disgusted with impure vampires such as the artificially made vampires.
Alucard is Dracula spelled backwards. It should be obvious - the protagonist of Hellsing is truly the Vampire King, forced into servitude with the very same family that defeated him.
Abraham, the progenitor of the Van Hellsing clan was the hunter who battled Dracula alongside John Harker, Arthur Holmwood, Jack Seward and Quincy Morris.
@723PanTera Romanian, Transylvanian....not much difference. And, keeping in line with the original book, they gave Van Hellsing a dutch accent...'cause he's dutch.
@lordxeras yeah you maybe right or Integra is into tanning, oh my god is she hot enough to imagne her in a bikini? also do u think she should....uh presrve the Hellsing lienage, werid way to say it i know but still
I want to see an anime version of Bram Stoker's Dracula, Kohta Hirano style! I'll squeal like a fangirl when I see Alucard in his Dracula form and hear his accent...and I'm a DUDE! D:
..."your castles are plundered, your dominions in ruin, your servants destroyed. AND THE GIRL HAS FLED THIS PLACE FOREVERMORE. SHE WILL NEVER BE YOURS COUNT." <--- Why does everyone have such a hard time processing that Hellsing piggybacks on the end of Bram Stoker's Dracula? Castle Dracula in the Carpathian Mountains has been plundered. We've destroyed all of the Brides, and Mina Harker has fled forever COUNT Dracula..
@rustyglock212 right on, dude! i read the book, LOVED it, and I love how this series is a pseudo-sequel to it. i mean they even mention Mina, Van Helsing, Harker, Holmwood and Quincy in the series when he's fighting Anderson near the end!
I'd hoped that Hellsing would elaborate as to how Van Hellsing beat Alucard. If somebody can actually beat Alucard, they're probably the biggest, baddest motherfucker.
@PureLionHeart not the same mate. stoker's dracula does not have the immense power alucard has. he used something which no one knew, something alucard had burried, his only weakness. good thing he doesnt have one now since he is truly immortal now with SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER shcrodinger's power ;)
@DarkmanX66 You're actually correct, which is kind of sad that what may well be the main protagonist in Dracula is almost entirely wiped out in most other stories involving dracula and isn't even mentioned in Hellsing. It's been a while since I've read it, but in "Dracula" Johnathan, Abraham and the rest of the gang basically go out when Dracula's weakened and sleeping, take on his servants before Harker and Morris kill him.
@ReroOnyx The Wikipedia article (and what little I read of the book itself) indicated that Johnathan was the main protagonist, Mina as the secondary protagonist and Hellsing as the tertiary protagonist.
@DarkmanX66 In Hellsing, Alucard claims that Van hellsing beat him while Alucard gave it all he had, when in the actual bok, the exact opposite happened. Van Helsing was the lead expert on vampires and other assortment of unholy items but he was never the one to fight or kill Dracula. Likewise, They had to kill Dracula when he was weakened, out at daylight because otherwise they'd have no chance against him if he was at full power.
@supernova2411 Actually Dracula wasn't killed. either that or Bram Stoker was an idiot and din't read his own work.
In the book Abraham says that when a vampire is killed their domain (castle or whatnot) crumbles because the curse of agelessness is broken. And that Vampires can turn into elemental dust. At the end of the book when Dracula is stabbed he smiles at them then turns to dust and is scattered by the wind. But the castle DOESN'T crumble.
@BondSlave101 There is a chance that Dracula's castle isnt old, it may be new, as you see that he built it when he came to London, Bram Stoker was a talented writer I highly doubt that he would forgot something as crucial as that.
@ThePinwheel maybe Hirano will do a backstory for it and elaborate why Alucard invaded England to begin with aside from wanting Mina Harker, I mean she must have been extremely beatiful to attract Alucard and have him lower his guard like this right?
@WorutaKumuDorunezu its a Transylvania accent that he still holds when he fought Abraham. Afterwards though, he began to speak english better due to basically being the pet of the british family.
dante is the ultimate rival to end in a stand still battle, alexander anderson is the most plaudable cus that fuker dont care if he does'nt hav arms or legs he'll still fight >=D and van hellsing is alucards owner XD
i no alucard got his ass kicked but he did willingly serve the hellsing family, so does he miss van hellsing his old master??? just asking no smart ass remarks plz =D

Now, there's something odd, in the manga he has that dream in the plane where they (Alucard, Seras and Pip) scape from Brazil.
But in the OVA, he is in his chambers...
yuridiaprivado 8 months ago 8
@yuridiaprivado The OVAs did make some changes. Episodes 1 & 2 especially had a few differences and cut scenes, but all of them changing the timing of various scenes for dramatic effect. OVA 4 and the Major's speech is one large example.

Isaiah 40:6 - "All flesh is grass."
NicholasGeschke 8 months ago 27
@NicholasGeschke He showed mercy to give Seras another life b/c she struggled to survive Alucard's shot. She agreed to then be turned. If she denied him or told him no, then she would have surely died.
vulgarjack 8 months ago
@NicholasGeschke doubt it
ValentineVanDrarcla 7 months ago
@NicholasGeschke Just four men?
That's quite impressive considering they had to get past Dracula's millions of familiars. Any damame given to him goes to his souls instead meaning just four men had to kill that many to get to him directly.
Also take into consideration Alucard has not been eating too many souls after he was defeated by Abraham. In ova 8 he had nearly the same amount and an a holy crusade and a nazi vampire army could not stop him.
nairda55555 6 months ago
@nairda55555 its not necessarily that they kill all the souls alucard has and if they did that haven't you stopped to think that the souls of vlads army shouldn't be there?
bursky09 5 months ago
@bursky09 blood is the currency of the soul
I think that even when a familiar is "killed" they are simply incapacitated as alucard has lost the amount of blood given to them to take physical form. So the soul still exists inside him, but has lost its share of blood to give them life.
As Alexander Anderson pierced his heart with a thorned blade after impaling himself with helena's nail his familiars began to burn as he lost blood. But after he drank the blood of london they returned, every one.

Is he the real deal, or a fake?
metavash 10 months ago
@metavash He's the real deal beneath the surface. When he releases Control Art Restriction Zero, he's basically back to his true roots, since the main modification deals with his ghouls and familiars.
PureLionHeart 10 months ago
@PureLionHeart what do you mean by familiars?
metavash 10 months ago
@metavash His dogs would be the prime example. Bugs as well. Frankly though, I'm not sure if the process is any different from his regular ghouls, so I suppose you could call them all under one phrase.
PureLionHeart 9 months ago
@PureLionHeart from what i understand (and correct me if im wrong) is when vampires drink a live persons blood they absorb their essence (soul) and if they drink it all, that soul becomes a part of them. That's also partly why it's so hard to kill Alucard, if you kill him he has literally another million "lives." because of all the people blood he drank. And when his restrictions are released he can release the souls he absorbed to fight for him.
warhawk9566 6 months ago
@metavash he is real he just as you said mental altering because if he didnt he would destoy every thing that he served and would cause a a horrific bloody disaster, after wards he would begin his search for mina/elizabeta again by ant means possible

supernova2411 9 months ago
@metavash Of course he's real. When he became a pet project all they did was add limits to his power to keep him from going berserk without permission. When he's given permission he can do all of the things he was already capable of doing before the limits were added. The real labrats are the other vampires who SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER were made from vampirism he gave Mina.

vulgarjack 8 months ago
@metavash He is actually a bit like anderson in the Moddification side of things. Van Hellsing didnt leave him alone in the cell for 20 yrs. How else do u think they know so much plus he is blood bonded to the Hellsing Organisation.
HannahRose063 8 months ago
@metavash Who's your friend? Sounds like some crusader for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
lordsuckup1 7 months ago
@metavash Oh, and tell him that by "working" the Hellsing family used their knowledge of the Occult, not science.
lordsuckup1 7 months ago
@metavash No listen: Alucard is still the exact same way he was before. It's just that the generations of the Hellsing family placed on him divine restrictions to limit his power and keep him forever bound to the service of Hellsing. He wasn't in any way scientifically changed -> the exact same, but levels of his evil have been limited in accordance with divine restriction. Release of Restriction Zero releases his ultimate and pure form of power. He is at risk of losing Hellsing control then.

@bakugancollecterZ
Van Hellsing DID experiment on him that was canon, yes he is dracula but he is also Hellsing's labrat for a century before being turned into an attack dog against other monsters.
gato23 4 months ago

"We've all become God's madmen...all of us."
NicholasGeschke 10 months ago
To those who are curious, Abraham's opening monologue is a quote of Isiah 40:6-8.

PCDTSME 9 months ago
@PureLionHeart Didn't Jonathan Harker kill Dracula on the road while Abraham took on Dracula's harem in a castle?
DarkmanX66 9 months ago
@DarkmanX66 You're actually correct, which is kind of sad that what may well be the main protagonist in Dracula is almost entirely wiped out in most other stories involving dracula and isn't even mentioned in Hellsing. It's been a while since I've read it, but in "Dracula" Johnathan, Abraham and the rest of the gang basically go out when Dracula's weakened and sleeping, take on his servants before Harker and Morris kill him.
ReroOnyx 9 months ago
@ReroOnyx The Wikipedia article (and what little I read of the book itself) indicated that Johnathan was the main protagonist, Mina as the secondary protagonist and Hellsing as the tertiary protagonist.
DarkmanX66 9 months ago
@DarkmanX66 In Hellsing, Alucard claims that Van hellsing beat him while Alucard gave it all he had, when in the actual bok, the exact opposite happened. Van Helsing was the lead expert on vampires and other assortment of unholy items but he was never the one to fight or kill Dracula. Likewise, They had to kill Dracula when he was weakened, out at daylight because otherwise they'd have no chance against him if he was at full power.
ReroOnyx 9 months ago
@DarkmanX66 if you mean the movie than in it was Quincy who delivered the killing blow to Dracula by stabbing him in the heart with a bowie knife
723PanTera 8 months ago
@723PanTera well in the 1992 movie the knife was delived to dracula by quincy but the final part of killing was by mina

supernova2411 8 months ago
@PureLionHeart well in hellsing dracula was killed. not put under a survitude to the hellsing bloodline
supernova2411 8 months ago
@supernova2411 Actually Dracula wasn't killed. either that or Bram Stoker was an idiot and din't read his own work.
In the book Abraham says that when a vampire is killed their domain (castle or whatnot) crumbles because the curse of agelessness is broken. And that Vampires can turn into elemental dust. At the end of the book when Dracula is stabbed he smiles at them then turns to dust and is scattered by the wind. But the castle DOESN'T crumble.
I don't include Undead to be fully canon.
BondSlave101 8 months ago
@BondSlave101 oh i didnt kno that thx 4 da info =)
supernova2411 7 months ago
@BondSlave101 There is a chance that Dracula's castle isnt old, it may be new, as you see that he built it when he came to London, Bram Stoker was a talented writer I highly doubt that he would forgot something as crucial as that.
bakugancollecterZ 4 months ago
