Tommy not an original member but he has been with them for over 30 years now. there are almost NO original members in the band anyway. Chuck makes cameos and I forget exactly when JY came on but I'd consider him original. Tommy was a huge shot in the arm to this group. He wrote most of thier hits. Styx got its big break from radio station WLS in Chicago with thier song Lady. Yes that was before Tommy but other than that one hit they had nothing. Tommy has contributed immesurably to to Styx.

Both are probably the most well known members of their respective groups, but the irony is they both were not original members either. Still, once they joined REO and Styx got better and more popular.

Yes, if you put one of these so called artists of today, like the one's who sing behind a sound man, or an "Auto tune" for one, how horrible they would sound live. There are very few artists today that can sing an acoustic arrangement. there are a few good bands out right now for good measure that make real music. We have to be bombarded by Kanye west's, Beyonce's and Lady GaGa's of this world, and the crap songs they record ! God bless classic Rock and Roll

btw I saw the concert, the "mimic" can not pull of "Suite Madaam Blue" but I saw the original. Overall, I enjoyed the concert. I used to leove Tommy but the way he talked to the crowd, you would think he was unaware that Styx made him a star!

Dennis and Tommy were lead singers for Styx, and Tommy is still singing with the band. He is lookin' great! He is one serious frontman. Saw him last in 2007 when Styx toured with Def Leppard and Foreigner, the show was great.

NOT only was I disappointed from Styx and REO Speedwagon NOT showing up, even though they were BOTH on my ticket, Copps Coliseum REFUSED to give me my money back!!! I would have NEVER paid $85 for a concert to just see Def Leppard in concert. I TOTALLY got RIPPED OFF!!!! NOBODY at Copps Coliseum would give me my money back.

No.. that is NOT what happened. Foreigner was NOT on my ticket, and therefore was NOT scheduled to play in Hamilton, Ontario. My ISSUE is that Styx AND REO Speedwagon WAS ON my ticket AND SCHEDULED to play in Hamilton as an opening act to Def Leppard, but DIDN'T show up. I PAID $85 to see them BOTH, and Copps Coliseum REFUSED to give me my money back!! RIP OFF!!

I WANTED to see BOTH Styx AND REO Speedwagon play In Hamilton, ON at Copps Coliseum 2 years ago, but they DIDN'T show up!!! I PAID $85 to see them, but since they were the opening act for Def Leppard, and Copps Coliseum had to postpone the ORIGINAL concert in April to August of that year due to illness, so they brought in Billy Idol INSTEAD for an opening act, but Copps Coliseum officials did NOT inform the public that REO Speedwagon and Styx would NOT be playing. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!

Dennis DeYoung was the lead singer, no one would even bother to say otherwise if they'd ever heard of Styx. He did the vast majority of the songs, and he did all but 2 of the big hits.

CBS's Harry Smith and all of these comments are not completely right. Styx has three "lead singers". Lawrence Gowan replaced Dennis DeYoung, Tommy sings some lead, and so does James Young ("JY").

The vast majority of the songs were written and sung by Dennis DeYoung. Tommy sang several hits as well, but then again Brian May sang a lot of Queen songs too. No one considers Brian May a co lead singer of Queen. The singer and showman has always been Freddie Mercury, just as DeYoung has always been the memorable character/voice of Styx, and why people have lost interest now that he's gone.
