Watching this you truely realise just how ground breaking it all was, there are cg films made today that don't have this much attention to detail and realism.
Sad thing is that for a long time, Robert Patrick got no credit as an actor, whatsoever. ITs only now, in his later years, he's getting quite alot of praise.
HE was one of the stand outs in Walk the Line, and he should have gotten more screen time in Ladder 49. He was typecast for years after this film, but, all due respect for the guy, he worked hard to get out from under the influence of the character.
Funny how these effects look 300% more real than any movie effects nowadays.. Shame that every movie maker just do cgi because their cheaper and rarely to really make them look like an integrated part of the movie, seemlessly..
RIP Stan Winston. On 00:31 he said so true worlds to all thouse dumbassess who thinks CGI is bad, becouse the technology does it all and so it has no soul. You see, its done by the people behind computers, not by the computers.
We all like Lucas but when Cameron made his name he created a new standard of film making. Cameron has never made a film that relied on CG (or technology for that matter) to tell a story that involved ground breaking technical effects.
Jim Cameron is simply amazing, and ILM, no better effects house excist, every other effects house borrows from ILM, motion control, morphing and so on... and we can't forget the Grandfather of modern cinema, George Lucas. Men like these make it a joy to go to the cinemas. :)
Isn't Digital Domain Cameron's as well? I know ILM (Lucas) own digital effects in Hollywood but wasn't there some story about how Pixar could sh*t all over ILM if they wanted to but they choose to work in "story telling" 3D as opposed to supplying effects 3D, which is why they write, direct and create as opposed to only creating?
No, venuecan, Cameron sold Digital Domain after he divorced Linda Hamilton and cheated on her with his Titanic star, Suzy Amis and then he married her. Cameron doesn't own his own visual effects house that's why he needed WETA digital owned by Peter Jackson to work on his crappy Avatar film.
Not so much nowadays which is a shame! The Star Wars Prequels and Indy4 are examples of the poor state Lucas, ILM, Spielberg et'al are in nowadays. Pity.
Mark A.Z. Dippé and Steve Spaz Williams were both involved with the film adaptation of Spawn. . . I always wondered how such a low(ish) budget film looked SO amazing in some shots.
It really did. And I spoke to one of the creature modellers about that - apparently some production deal fell through and they found themselves quite short of cash come post-production.
well they're probably the same school of thought since they both make high budget effects movies. just ones more market minded, giving the audience a thrill ride and the other one wants to tell a story more, but they're basically the same where they're coming from.
Have you seen the Star Wars Prequels and Revenge of the Fallen? They were in a serious decline of cinematic quality than their predecessors. I don't know if we're on the same book here, but they both had a splash of camp and irrationality than before. Both were just a venture of CGI Special Effects rather than telling a good story.
Yeah, if only, but they won't, because they're both worthless hacks. In my mind, Cameron is soooooooo underrated. Not only does he have a penchant for cinematic effects, but good storytelling too. Fuck Bay, and a big FUCK YOU to Lucas.
I agree that Cameron is phenomenal! His latest flick "Avatar" took my breath away, but c'mon, u can't be that negative about Lucas. His movies are amazing as well.

T2 was the best sci-fi movie ever. Mostly because of the acting and a good script. I agree T3 and four was crap. John was a pussy in them..

i was watching T2 today, and ur right, it still looks AMAZING even today.
and I think Cameron is completely right, the special effects aren't whats important,
its all about character and story, so great he understood that and he demonstrates it to the best in T2 :)

Why the hell am I talking like this?
Crim15 2 years ago
well its in decline cos of the market being over saturated by effects movies.
they both have a story or they wouldnt have been made, good stories, but i think ur right that the cgi is the main focus and story takes a back seat.
alexbaxthedarkside 2 years ago
Pretty much a cheap shot at making a movie and getting cash for it..

indeed it is, Hope Hollywood relise sooner or later they should pack that shit in.
