It is a big deal. A pilot usually has the plane in auto pilot and he is not going to slip off the road and hit another vehicle. A bus driver only has about a foot on each side of the bus which means any little distraction and he may hit or be hit by another vehicle or 18 wheeler. He needs to focus on driving and thats all.

Actual hours a driver can drive is a max of 10 hours and cannot drive after 15 hours on duty without an 8 hour break. That is the basics. Bus drivers are allowed longer days due to their schedules, or should I say, the schedules of their passengers. The driver was checking his log book for whatever reason (hours, times, etc). Unless the person video taping asked, no one knows. There was no snow on the road. Get over yourselves. The driver was safe...you made it home didn't you?

@archonmichael bs, Comercial drivers are allowed 10 hours per day, and there must be a one hour break in the ten. they also cannot drive anymore until they take an 8 hour break. also, loading and unloading times are also counted as driving time, with a minimum of 15 minutes for load/unloads. they also have to log drop and hook times

When a group of people have high demands for getting to a destination with as few stops as possible, we sometimes have to check our logs while driving to make sure we don't go over 4 hrs without stopping(D.O.T.law) We have to know where a stop is within a certain time logged or we commit a federal offense. He's doing what's legally expected of him. Check dot regs on motorcoach drivers. BTW, that's no snowstorm.
