Maybe if you shaped and coloured the outer case appropriately, the guitar might get a little more respect in-transit if the baggage handlers mistook it for an actual coffin.
Even though your guitar was still in tune, its proper to detune your guitar, then pack it properly as you had shown us. Thats the proper way to travel with a guitar. If you need to tune your guitar I always have a digital tuner I bought from Guitar Center.
There have been many discussions on this. The kind folks at Taylor guitar recommend that you not detune your guitar. The reason is that your guitar strings put approximately 150 pounds of pressure in one direction on your neck and sound board. I think what they mean is not to loosen them all the way. say to an open G tuning.
Thank You so much for your kind words CuTSMusic. I am so touched by all the great folks who thank me for inventing the Clam. Once you own one you never worry about traveling with a guitar again. These are our babies and we love them.
Awesome demo, Bruce. Generous offer to SoM, as well. Folks, this case and the gentleman who designed it are top-notch. To all those who question the validity of this product I say come up with something better, that weighs as little, provides as much functionality, peace of mind and costs as little as these cases cost. You won't find it. That's why I bought one of these after Delta crushed my Resonator and, frankly, I don't endorse anything. But, I'm never flying to another gig without it.
Great packing method but this is no insurance against mishandling.
In the roof test case landed flat on side, not neck first. Do test again as if you were trying to destroy guitar.

This is ok, except that airlines don't just drop them. Got a case that can withstand being run over by an airport truck?

I carry on with me. Taking no chances.
