he's playing true to the rocco style, tower of power's once-and-always bassist. Rocco leaves his hand down like that to get that muted, staccato sound. Nice, dude.
Hey, that's how I play the bass! I picked up that habit from sax/clarinet. I just rest my fingers lightly on the keys, never raising them up and only pushing down when I need to. Same thing over the bass strings. It looks unimpressive and even limiting, but really you're just eliminating extra movements. Why lift your fingers and stretch out your ring finger if you don't have to.
good job!

Ok you`re right. I did not know the technique of Rocco. Now I understand how it works. I will implement. Sounds very funky ..
Good bye brother

ja ja ja... you play with only one finger!!

He's playing with Rocco's style. He frets with one finger while muting the strings with one or more of the other fingers on the fretting hand.

What version is this with Larry Braggs on vocals? Doesn't sound live but that's definitely current Tower of Power.

Is that a Fender Jazz Bazz from the 70´s?

great work man, this book with play-along is awesome, isn't it? Great playing about your left hand too.

Thanks, very much. Keep up the good work. there aren´t that many freaks out, that really try to copy roccos weird technique ;)

sounded good but it still seems like limiting technique to me but if you are going for the complete tribute to him then ok
muppetpastor79 4 years ago
that sounded really good. it just looks weird like you fret every note with the same finger. thats kind of limiting technique. but still good job

I employed the Rocco Prestia's fingerstyle technique.
