We need to make sure that Paul's brand of republicanism--one based on limited government at home and non-interventionism abroad dominates. We need free trade, low taxes,federalism and a foreign policy that does not require our government to be world savers.

Do you know why government never relents with spending and credit expansion once it has started, why it goes on and on until it induces so much malinvestment that the bust is devastating?

Because once it borrows money to reduce taxes and increase spending, it can't as Keynes naively thought, suddenly stop because that would lead to the economy adjusting to the displacement of capital caused by interventionist government, ie a recession would occur when the liquor ends. So it keeps on spending!

That's why it's true to say the bigger the boom, the bigger the bust, and why the credit crunch of 2008 and the housing bubble make sense in light of Bush and Greenspan's policy following the dotcom boom: keep interest rates fraudulently low and spend lots of money to keep Freddie and Fannie inducing their moral hazard to the mortgage industry. As if continuous credit expansion wasn't enough!
