The allies lost more merchant sailors on ships sunk by the Uboats. The figures are reduced to the numbers of ships lost or the tonnage sunk rather than it being seen as 30,000 families losing cherished family members on both sides. I watched Das Boot and hoped for the Kriegsmarine Sailors return but the odds were against them - slightly better than those for sailors on the 3,500 ships lost in the middle of the Atlantic. Germany lost the uboat war in WW1 and again in WW2. Lost from day 1?
