There is a lot of free softwares that do the same thing, I say learn Blender 3D (Google it), it'll most likely seem extremely hard at first but start watching tutorials and it'll start becoming clear oh so soon! :)
Yar... interesting way of modeling it. Never though of it. I always pretty much begin with a cube and add divisions right away and then get the general form done, although, when I come to add details... I need to subdivise some more and I'm stuck with a lot of unneccessary faces.
in your persp, or front, or side, or top go to "view"--> then on the bottom you will see "image plane"-->"import image" then select image and you are a winer
Awesome! I would have done it the exact same way...
I noticed you had some Tri faces instead of quads, I always try to work my Tris into Quads... but are they still acceptable in the video game industry?
Sucks no one is hiring I would love to model... I could do this all day.
I did indeed combine some verts to ease the poly count a bit which caused a few tri's, but I don't think that they're that much of an issue in the areas I put them.
ok... im trying to figure this program out. What is the pink thing at the beginning of the movie that you click and drag and get the shape of his face? how do i find it?
It's the Create Polygon Tool, located under Edit Mesh. Although if you're trying to learn Maya I wouldn't suggest tackling organic modeling right away. Try to look up some tutorials on the subject and follow those. :)
There are different ways of doing this, either you can go View - Image Plane - Import image which is the easiest way of doing it. Or you can create a plane and apply a material that has the image that you want assigned to it's diffuse value. I used the latter in this video because the first one lagged up a little bit for me, but either way works just fine!
I would have to disagree with you, you are far from screwed. =) Just keep practicing and it will get to you one day, I'm still learning and it will always be that way.
Where you get that picture? Because have perfect angle.

I tend to just general switch techniques for every model I make, I think it trains me to be more flexible and it's more fun that way. :)

And yes, I could model all day as well. ;)
