@tomtomfly I also prefer Blackmore but I think Steve Morse is also great! He can't play only fast - he can play with much feeling too. Check out Contact Lost or Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming! Not as much soul as Blackmore has but also very good.

He is not like Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, etc. who really can play only fast.

Morse's signal chain is too pure, with a lot of headroom. The best version of this song, from Made in Japan, makes critical use of the technique called "crapping out the tube power amp".

The processed late 80's and early 90's sound does not work here, sorry, Steve.

Morse is a fantastic player. Does he have half the mystique or volatility of the Man in Black? No. But the band is having more FUN playing this stuff with Morse in the band--they've been doing it for 16 years. I appreciate that Morse plays solos like Highway Star nearly note for note--his respect for Blackmore's work is intact. Morse is a class act and nice guy. Nobodysays that about Blackmore. In the end, only the music remains. Do I like my Purple with Blackmore? You bet.
