@rangask8er Nope. He wrote an article on the build in Make Magazine. The compression chamber is just a piece of pvc and the piston inside of it is a piece of machined cutting board with an O-ring bolted to a brass rod. The entire build was done with scrap and some hardware

Do you notice a lot of dart wobble with the increased power? We mod'd the spring in my son's little nerf gun and the flight became unstable, fun, but unstable. Do you think a longer barrel would stabilize the dart better with the higher pressures?

Did you know you can make nerf stefens, and if you havent herd of them they are homade darts that you can make with a #8 washer,foam backer rod 1/2 inch and hot glue.Enjoy

Another thing that intrigues me is that, how did you make the pull-back rod telescopic (being able to pull back and forward again)?

Never seen home-mades like the SGN-R3L have such a feature before, as said blaster has its plunger rod extending out from the back. Without the telescopic feature, cheek-rests are needed to protect the user from a "cheek-rape" when the plunger rod slams forward during firing.

Could you care to explain how the telescoping rod works? Thanks!

One of the best and cleanest home-mades I've seen. Great job done!

Might I add that the reason that why your Home-made gets better ranges is that it utilizes a Direct-Plunger System, whereas the Maverick uses a Reverse-Plunger System.

This home-made's plunger definitely has more air capacity compared to the Maverick's. As we all know, Nerf blasters use air to propel the darts.

Impressive!  If you want the same performance out of the regular Nerf gun, pull it apart and remove a piece or two (it was a few years ago so I forget which) reassemble and add large rubber bands to the outside. Continue adding bands until you start blowing the sides out of the darts, destroying them from too much air pressure, then remove just enough so you're at the maximum possible without bursting dart tubes. You won't believe how accurate and fast they shoot!

With a reload time like that, that cheap nerf pistol will still likely destroy you in a practical situation. Maybe not in range, but while you're fumbling around trying to reload after every shot, any gun with more than one round capacity will just tear you apart.

My only question is just how long that telescoping rod is going to last after repeated use...I feel like it would wear down after a while.

@Euphonious91 That steel rod is 3mm (1/8 inch) thick. And the piece it slides in is steel shaft from an old printer. You won't wear those out in a hurry! What will wear is the piece that pushes the spring catch wire out of the way though. Mine is aluminium for now and it is wearing already so I need to replace that part with steel.

@bobstein33p I am not sure sorry. It does take quite a pull but unfortunately the scales I have to try to measure it only goes up to 5kg (11 pounds) and it is definitely more than that. It is enough that you start getting a sore finger from the pull ring after not too long.

I've always felt the low-feed Nerfs were better than the multi-shot ones. I had a lovely circa-1998 over and under Nerf gun that, IMHO, was the pinnacle of the line, everything else has been downhill gimicky crap.
